Volume 6 Chapter 21: The One Standing In the Way

The words were fragmented, but perhaps that was because the knight was putting all his strength into the fight. So, I responded.

「Of course, god. I’m not going anywhere.」

I, too, readied my spear.

This was the perfect opportunity to break this opponent.

「GoOd, sHoW mE YoUr rEsoLvE. fAcE yOuR deMiSe.」

The knight’s helmet bore a grin, then he moved his feet.

With a speed that seemed close to subsonic, he advanced.

The sword in his right arm glowed with a red, heated light.

「Yeah. To challenge a god, I’ll go even further.」

And so, I too stepped forward.

Back then, up above the divine tree, I couldn’t employ this technique due to the spear’s destruction.

Now, the time has come to use that combination.

While running, I drew my spear back as if to pull a bowstring, lowering my body.

Then, with a twist of my body, I unleashed the power I had once gained to confront the Dragon God.

A single strike, honed to reach a god…

「—【Dragon God’s Ruination Strike】 (Dragneel Bringer).」

Lorie watched in awe as Axel and the armored knight clashed.

On the shallow stage of the spring, both of them launched straight at each other, moving with speed that surpassed sound.

The armored knight swung his sword, unleashing a red slash of light.

Axel, on the other hand, summoned several interlocking magic circles before him, and with that, he thrust forth a blue light spear at blinding speed.

No, it wasn’t merely thrust, launched, would be more accurate. The speed of Axel’s attack was unimaginable.

The air disturbed by their movements erupted instantly upon contact, transforming into white vapor.

No would’ve been able to step between the two. Their strikes collided.

For only a brief moment — mere seconds — the two forces seemed to be in a standoff.

Light clashed, blue and red intertwined, and then—

「【—MaGnificeNt.】」

The blue light spear shattered the armored knight, piercing straight through him.

The shockwave of the thrust exploded outward in the form of a powerful impact, splashing across the spring.

*Pshhh*

The waters of the spring shot upwards into the sky with a booming burst.

It was as if a waterfall itself had been hurled upwards.

But soon enough, those waters began to fall again—

As the spray of water shot up into the sky and began to fall back down, Axel looked over at Lorie.

「Hey, looks like you can touch the spring water now without any trouble, huh, Lorie?」

「Huh? Ah… yeah. It feels fine now.」

Even as the waters fell from the sky and her feet were submerged in the shallow spring, there was no resistance. No longer was she repelled by the water.

Having overcome the trial of the gods and even defeated a divine avatar, Axel grinned, his usual easy going demeanor intact.

「Well then, I guess this means I’ve officially delivered you to the spring. Looks like I’ve completed my delivery mission, huh, Lorie?」

And with that, Axel offered a light smile, as if nothing had happened.
