Volume 6 Chapter 8

Volume 6 Chapter 8: A Different Kind of Rest

Half a day had passed since we departed from the Spirit City.

When we’d left, the sky had still been bright—but now the sun was beginning to set.

Travelling in the dark brings increased risk.

So, just as we’d agreed before the journey began, Lorie decided it was time to make camp.

The place we chose was a clearing within the forest.

「Well then, just like we discussed about earlier, I’ll handle setting up the tents for the night.」

「Right. That’s the special magic you mentioned?」

「Yes. So I’m leaving the cooking to you two.」

Shelter was important, but so was food—especially when camping like this.
During the trip, we’d already discussed who would handle what, and since Axel and Daisy had mentioned they were good at cooking, Lorie had left it in their hands.

「Got it.」

「Leave it to us, Princess.」

「I’m counting on you.」

With the roles settled, Lorie turned away and headed toward a spot she had picked earlier—a perfect location to set up a tent.

「It’s been a while since I’ve camped like this.」

「Yeah, we used to do it all the time, before Berze joined us.」

As their conversation and the sound of clattering preparations faded behind her, Lorie walked to a slightly more distant area.

The ground there was firm, and there weren’t too many trees crowding the space—ideal conditions.

If the ground’s too soft, the tents would sink. If the trees are too dense, it’s hard to set anything up.

…Yes, just as I thought. This area will work perfectly.

The location was decided. Now all that was left was to cast the spell.

Thinking this, Lorie tapped her staff on the ground several times.

「Here we go…」

Then thrust it firmly into the soil.

The spell she was about to perform used the natural magic that filled the atmosphere of the Spirit Realm to construct physical objects.

It was one of her specialties.

Unlike alchemy, which required material components, this spell relied only on ambient magic.

That made it incredibly useful when traveling with a small group—

…especially when you couldn’t count on resupplying along the way.

With that in mind, Lorie began chanting.

「【Construct: Temporary Shelter】」

A blue light burst forth from her staff.

It expanded, pushing back the orange hues of twilight, spreading out to encompass the surrounding area.

And before long—

「There. All done.」

—what stood there was a large shelter, formed from multiple dome-shaped tents joined together.

A canopy covered the top, protecting against rain.

Peeking inside through the entrance, she saw a space large enough for ten adults to sleep comfortably.

The floor was lined with soft blue padding, and the interior was divided into sections—allowing for simple partitioning into rooms.

A very convenient spell for camping.

…Interior’s solid too. No issues here.

She went around and inspected the structure, checking for any faults. It looked like there would be no problems with regular use.

「Alright, that’s done.」

Because the spell had drawn magic from the environment, she hadn’t used much of her own energy.

Now, if she could just get something warm to eat and then sleep, she’d recover just fine.

…Of course, compared to the castle, the food and sleeping arrangements were lacking—but that couldn’t be helped. This was a trial, after all.

Accepting that, Lorie turned to return to Axel and Daisy’s location.

「How’s it going over there, Axel—」

She called out as she turned back.

And what she saw was—

「Keep an eye on the pot for me, Daisy.」

「Got it. I’m done prepping the meat, so I’ll handle the soup now.」

A makeshift wooden table was set up, piled high with ingredients.
A large mana-powered stove, a proper cooking counter—
In short, a fully operational kitchen.
