Frontier Lord Chapter 038 – The Long Eared Trio Act 1 (Part 1)

「P- P- Please help me……! L- L- Let me out of this place, please……」

It had been a week since I had been trapped in this place, and I had been desperate to speak up and convey that I was quite literally at my limit.

「S- Somebody, please help me…… P- Please, let me out of here……」

We, desert dwellers, didn’t mind not drinking water for a while, but a week had been a lot to bear, and was certainly pushing it. 

If I had known that this was going to happen, I would have honestly asked Lord Diaz, the Dragon Slayer, for help at that time.

「S- Somebody, please…… I- Isn’t there anybody here……」

I desperately raised my voice while thinking that this wretched place just might be the end of me. But as I raised my voice, my ears detected a slight, faint presence of someone approaching me.

「I- Is there somebody there?!」

「P- P- Please help me… …! L- Let me out of this place, please… …」

Not only did I raise my voice high, but I also began scratching the walls with my fingernails, hoping to somehow appeal to this presence, to the utmost of my abilities.

(If… … if my efforts here prove futile, t- then I probably won’t be able to hold on any longer… …! S- So, please, I beg of you. I beg of you, please just notice that I am here!!!)

「Hmph… I’m sure I heard something.」

「You’re right, I can hear it too. There’s definitely something here.」

(I-  I did it! I got them to notice me!)

「I’m over here! I’m inside this wooden box! I can’t get out of here because there is stuff placed on top of the lid!」

I pounded on the wall with my fingernails, pounding harder and harder and harder. As I raised my voice even higher, the owners of the voice came closer to the box, acting as if they were going to try and help me get out.

「Aihan… … T- This is heavy. I can’t lift it by myself.」

「Don’t push yourself too much Senai. Let’s take it slower and move them one by one.」

From the sound of their voices, I was convinced that both of the voices belonged to young girls.

The two young girls tried desperately to help me, however, from their voices and their struggling breaths I could somehow make out that they were having a hard time doing so, probably due to their lack of strength.

「Y- You don’t have to push yourselves… It would be better if you go and call an adult. I would honestly love that more… Is Lord Dias somewhere nearby?」

「The adults are all busy, so we can’t call them!」

「They are all working right now, so we can’t bother them.」

「Urgh… … So that’s how it is. Um… It would be a problem if you got hurt trying to help me, so I think it would be best if you leave this to an adult. I will be fine here. I don’t mind waiting until some of the adults are free… … So for the time being, please just let the adults know that I am here, and that I need help. That will be enough.」

「We will get you out in no time!」

「That’s right. In no time at all.」

The two girls rudely interrupted me as they said that. Both of them were working to their utmost and I could hear that their breaths were becoming heavy.

They pushed stuff, sliding them across the wooden surface, then they dropped stuff which fell to the ground, creating dull sounds. They then dropped some other stuff, repeating the process over and over again.

I could imagine that they were handling the stuff quite roughly and that they would definitely get scolded by the adults for it later.

「This is the last one!」

「Urgh… … This one is so heavy… …」

As the two of them exclaimed in unison, the last piece of luggage that was sealing me shut was slowly removed from the top of the wooden box’s lid.

Finally, the lid of the wooden box opened and… the young girls poked both hands inside the box and pushed the lid open to let the fresh, crisp outside air enter the wooden box.

「HA HA HA! Thank you so much! Thank you for helping me out! I’ve been trapped in this damn thing for a full week! It was honestly terrible… It was so, so terrible! You two saved my life!」

I took a big breath, filling my chest to the brim with the realization that I had finally been freed from that crate full of beans. After getting my wits about me I thanked the girls who had saved me with all my heart. The girls, who seemed to be twins, looked at me with a twinkle in their eyes.

「My name is Senai. You are so small! Just who are you? Are you perhaps a Beastman? Are you a boy? Or are you a girl maybe?」

「Hello. It is nice to meet you. My name is Aihan.」

「Um… Yes, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I am a Beastman and a member of the Jerboa Tribe. My name is Eyma Jellyboa. Despite how I may look, I am a girl. And despite my small size I am in fact a full-grown adult.」

I said this while patting the men’s clothes I was wearing, which had become dingy from not being washed for quite a while, Senai and Aihan began to exclaim and cheer, their eyes gleaming brightly. 

Apparently, the two of them were amused by my every move.

They couldn’t stop shouting from excitement and making a lot of noise. They constantly touched my ears with their fingers in a fearful manner. They also tried to touch my tail… Their uncontrollable curiosity was quite childlike and I couldn’t help but smile while looking at the two of them.

I let them do what they wanted as long as they weren’t rough. I even let them pet me as much as they wanted… After they had gotten enough of touching me and were finally satisfied, they began to bombard me with all kinds of questions that came to their minds. Their curiosity was simply endless.

They asked me about my homeland, my family, whether I was married or not, whether I had a lover or not, and all those kinds of things.

I told them that my homeland was the desert, that I had no family, that I was not married and that I did not have a lover. After telling them that my homeland was the desert that further sparked an array of questions about it. Like what kind of place it was and so on.

「Hey, hey, hey, Eyma. Why were you trapped inside of this box?」

「Did they punish you because you did something bad, Eyma?」

The two asked, after I had answered most of their other questions.

(They sure asked quite the embarrassing and difficult to answer question… Nonetheless, these two are the ones who saved my life. I must answer them to the best of my ability, and as truthfully as possible.)
