Chapter 102

It was the next morning after the celebratory banquet for the defeat of the Guuma clan army.

Although the sun was only just beginning to rise, for farmers, this was around the time the villagers always woke up to start the day’s work, so now all the villagers were working together to clean up after the banquet.

And then, together with my usual group consisting of Selina, Diadora, Dramina, Christina-san, and Lenia, we headed toward the village’s south gate.

The barrier golems, thermal golems, and combat golems were being used to help with the clean up.

Because they won’t ever become fatigued, the clean up will likely not take much time at all.

Now then, the reason why we walked all the way to the south gate was because we were seeing off Aldeath, Amias, Mairahl, and Caravis.

Chrono Maze should have also been there, but maybe it was because her nerves couldn’t handle being around the highest ranking goddesses, or maybe she was already satisfied by offering forgiveness and gratitude to me already, so she had left for the heavens before morning had arrived.

Based on how he appeared yesterday, Chrono Maze probably had nothing else to worry about now, so it should be okay to feel reassured about her.

As usual, the two guards and the combat golems were already at the south gate, and they would sometimes turn their gazes toward us.

The other adventurers who weren’t actually gods were still inside the village or near the exorcism bell, and having drunk too much the night before, they were in a deep sleep even until now.

Among them were several adventurers connected to Lenia’s family, the Blaster Blast House. For the Blaster Blast family, Lenia showing a full, unreserved smile toward me was the focus of their attention, enough to move the hearts of even these private soldiers.

If I think back to how Lenia acted before she knew that I was actually Dragon, then I can understand their reactions.

Mairahl and the others were being seen off by us, and except for Caravis, they all had bright and sunny expressions on their faces. It was clear to see that they felt the few days they’d spent here at Bern Village had been quite fruitful for them.

「This is really a fine morning. It must be because the sudden bout we had yesterday was so wonderful, I still feel it deep in my heart.

Christina, Dramina. No matter how much I praise you both, it wouldn’t be enough. You both possess splendidly beautiful technique and courage. I invite you both to my Valhalla anytime.

Your beauty would even steal the hearts of my Einhelial heroes, and I doubt they could perform martial arts as brilliantly as you two.

Umu, I’ve met good soldiers. Just by meeting you, my descent to earth this time was worth my while」

Upon receiving such high compliments, so straightforwardly and honestly from Aldeath, Christina and Dramina both smiled, happy from the bottom of their hearts.

There is nothing one can feel prouder about, than to be praised by Aldeath. In this respect, I am no match for Aldeath.

Though in regards to the contest of last night, which continued to unravel until who knows how long, the one whose physical constitution had deteriorated the most was none other than Aldeath.

I can strengthen my own physical abilities endlessly, and depending on the circumstances, I can transform my flesh into the form of an Ancient Celestial Dragon as well.

As an awakened superhuman, Christina-san held physical abilities beyond that of a normal human, and although she hasn’t learned how to control it yet, she has also received the blessing of Dragon Slayer, so she will literally become a superhuman.

As for Dramina, everything about her was just remarkable. She was the top of the vampire clan, and she drank the blood of an Ancient Celestial Dragon, so it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that she is the strongest existence in the eyes of humanity.

In a gathering of such four people, Aldeath did not fall a single step behind as he waved his beloved spear, in an attempt to overwhelm Christina-san and Dramina with a single action.

Christina-san and Dramina were already well above the abilities of regular humans, but Aldeath’s current body was only that of a human, and shouldn’t even be able to be compared against them. But it is due to his abilities and his vast experience in battle that he can match them.

Christina-san had such high spirituality, she would sometimes cause phenomena that overcame the reason of this world, and Dramina was so fast, she could rival a flash of lightning. Compared to these two women, Aldeath’s reaction was far slower, and he could only move much slower than them. As a result, he had to move much, much faster.

He was the oldest existence in this world, the one who stands at the frontlines of all conflict, a soldier who continues to fight without rest. For such an existence, a human body is an extremely limiting and cramped vessel for his soul. But even so, he still showed a perfect display of skill toward Christina-san and Dramina, as he moved to fight them without retreating a single step.

Aldeath’s handling of the spear showed such sharp skill, such fierceness, and even some beauty, which caused the surrounding villagers to stop breathing due to utter fascination. They all understood in their souls that they were witnessing some sort of miracle.

Even as Christina-san and Dramina crossed blades with him, they could tell they were no match for his high skill, and even now, his skill was only rising further. This caused them to hold even more admiration and reverence towards him.

In just a single night of dueling with Aldeath, Christina-san and Dramina’s skill had risen dramatically, which caused him to grow even more interested in the two of them.

「Uumu, hey, Christina, Dramina. Won’t you entrust yourselves to me after your deaths?

As I thought, it would be a waste to just let the two of you go to the Underworld without putting up any resistance, or to entrust you to some other god」

Aldeath seemed to hold quite a lot of regret about Christina-san and Dramina, that he kept groaning as he fumbled with his long, gold hair, and he implored them with great passion in his voice.

Certainly, even from my eyes, I could see that they held superior military power, but they also held pure souls which were rare for soldiers.

It made sense that Aldeath would beg to them like this.

「Your words are a great honor, but I am not quite old enough to be thinking about my own death yet」

The first one to respond to Aldeath was Christina-san, with a troubled smile on her face.

Any follower of Aldeath would faint on the spot from delight, and they would rejoice over the fact that they are alive, to be able to receive such an offer from Aldeath, who looked like his heart might stop any moment. Christina-san looked to be in the middle of experiencing those feelings, and looked like she wanted to readily consent to Aldeath’s offer.

And then there was Dramina, who was also reacting the same way.

「I feel the same as Christina-san.

I’ve finally found a person I wish to walk alongside with toward the future, so when the time comes for such talks of death, I will consider your offer then」

Fumu, honestly, I was relieved that Christina-san and Dramina both had not answered his proposal.

「Uumu, uumu, I see. That’s right. You two are still very young. I got a little ahead of myself there. However, it is truly regrettable. You think so too, don’t you, Amias?」

Amias looked a little exasperated by her older brother for having suddenly started persuading Christina-san and Dramina, but it seems her evaluation of the two was the same as Aldeath’s, so she began to speak in response to her brother’s question.

「I think you’ve gone too far in your persuasions, but if it’s for these two, then I understand your feelings very well. It would do us well to inform the Valkyries, and let them come to earth to observe these two.

If it’s you two, then the Einhelial, and all of our underlings as well, would all welcome you with great joy. Moreover, we won’t do anything like forcibly capture someone who really doesn’t want to join us, so please rest assured」

It was extremely rare for these two war god siblings to evaluate soldiers from earth so highly.

Even now as they were talking, they were saying that their underlings, the warrior women called Valkyries, who fly around the earth for eternity to look for suitable heroes to invite to Valhalla, should come here to observe these two.

If the time ever comes for Christina-san and Dramina to go to heaven, then the Valkyries will surely arrive in droves to try to convince them to come to Valhalla.

The time for Christina-san and Dramina to go to heaven, huh. If I continue at this rate, even if I overestimate, I will likely live out my natural human lifespan, and live for around 60 more years.

When that time comes, without doubt, the ones who will be left behind are Selina, Dramina, and also Diadora and everyone else too.

I am aware that I have changed their lives, so I feel that leaving them behind like that is just too irresponsible.

The only one who picked up on what I was thinking about deep within my heart, was Mairahl, and she smiled calmly at me as she spoke.

「Fufu, Aldeath’s pushiness is just as strong as ever, isn’t it? Dran, I want to watch over the choices that will be made in the future, including yours」

Come to think of it, even though we were far enough away from the gate that the two human guards shouldn’t be able to hear it, Mairahl didn’t call me by the name of my soul, Dragon, but rather she was now calling me by my human name, Dran.

I am more attached to my human name of Dran, so I am happy to be called that way by her.

「Fumu, as expected, you understand. It’s about “this”」

When I tapped my right index finger to my heart, Mairahl’s smile disappeared and she had a serious expression as she nodded.

The thing that I was pointing out was the curse of reincarnation that some being had cast upon me when I died in my last life.

If the gods can descend to earth using my Ancient Celestial Dragon soul as a lighthouse, then they would probably notice the curse assimilating itself into the deepest part of my soul.

「I do understand, whether I like it or not. You don’t seem to be fretting about it yet, so can I take that to mean you have some kind of plan, Dran?」

「I’m having Jormungand look into it. Maybe he’s taking extra time just to be sure, but he will probably settle with the same opinion as me soon enough」

「So you already have at least one solution in mind then」

「If you count more unrealistic options, I have several, but for now, if I want to do something about this curse without causing trouble for anyone else, I only have this one option.

Well, it’s probably better if Caravis and the other evil gods not to find out about this method」

Maybe because I said that I had arrived at an answer to dispel the curse, a relieved expression rose to Mairahl’s face.

No one, including myself, has ever seen “that” before, but there have been many who thought it was possible.

「Is that so? I thought that such a thing was possible, but I couldn’t help but feel surprised when I heard that it could actually be done.

It is certainly a fact that the number of people who are hostile toward you are like a nightmare —  no, they exceed anything found in nightmares. By the way, will doing “that” not cause any problems for you?」

「I can’t say, since I haven’t actually tried it out yet myself, but just in case I think of any problems, I’ll wait until the last possible minute until I carry it out.

If I end up finding out that it is impossible, then I will go to you all and ask for your power and wisdom」

「Yes. If it’s a favor from a friend like you, then I will do all I can.

Besides, if it’s for you, even Caravis would happily lend her power, that is certain.

It’s just that, by looking at her, she doesn’t appear to be very reliable, and I’m sure there are many mixed feelings due to the long years of being enemies with her……」

Just as Mairahl said, I turned my gaze to Mairahl with complicated feelings, watching as Lenia, who had come to see her off, clung to Caravis, reluctant to part from her.

Well, if it was only reluctance to part ways, then things would have settled with Mairahl just widening her eyes in surprise from seeing her natural enemy doing something so unexpected, but the one who wouldn’t settle down was Caravis herself.

「Le-ni-a-chan, don’t go, hic, anywhere with, with, strangers, okay? Listen to what Dra- Dra-chan says, because he’s your father, uehhh」

Ahh, the appearance of a foreign dancer fit Caravis perfectly, as she let out a flood of tears and snot, and she occasionally sobbed toward her beloved daughter as she continued to speak.

At Caravis’ feet, it seemed like a puddle of tears and snot was about to form, but Lenia didn’t mind at all as she seriously lent her ears to her soul mother Caravis.

「Yes, I will do as you say. I will absolutely never forget it」

A faint smile appeared on Lenia’s lips, and somehow, the atmosphere around her became a happy one.
