Chapter 109

Four girls had gathered to discuss a very particular subject, despite their presence being anticipated elsewhere if, say perhaps, unbeknownst to mankind, a grand incident of unprecedented magnitude was actively taking place on the same planet, like the descending of the Great Serpent Leviathan and the Divine Wyrm Alexander.

These four, much like Dolan and Christina, were selected contenders in the upcoming Sorcery Tournament hosted by the Galois School of Magic: Fenia, Nel, Nel’s best friend, Fatima, and her familiar, Sierra.

If Dolan had known that Fenia and Nel, the two most passionate for the Sorcery Tournament, were sacrificing their precious training time to have some random discussion, he would have been shockingly perplexed and seriously questioned what on the planet was going on.

The four took the utmost caution, wary of their surroundings to avoid uninvited eavesdroppers, as they gathered on the deck of the bathhouse that Dolan had built on their school grounds.

It was Fenia who first spoke up, who also happened to be the host.

Fenia took a good look around Nel, Fatima and Sierra. Her eyes were glistening full of curiosity, almost as gleaming as her meticulous blonde curls. She put on an inauthentic smirk, which was just a tad short from coming off as obvious arrogance, then promptly hid it behind her signature fan and began to speak.

“Now Miss Nellinesia, Miss Fatima, have you kindly informed Mister Dolan and the others how you would not be able to attend your training today?”

“Yup. Told them I’ve got class.”

Nel gave a short reply, somewhat disappointed that her quick scan for provided snacks and refreshments proved fruitless.

Due to the fact that the use of magic exhausts tremendous amounts of mental and mystical energy, mages are known for their large appetite and their frequent indulgence of high calorie snacks and spirits. Nel’s love for food, however, was on a whole different level of gourmand, even with that in consideration.

Fenia perfectly understood that they held Dolan’s unsuspecting trust, and how rare it was for him to even think of doubting them. It was precisely why she didn’t show much concern, despite Nel’s answer being bare-bones.

“Fantastic. Well now then, the reason why I have asked for your company here today, forsaking our precious training for the Sorcery Tournament, is of course, in regards to that particular issue I have been confiding with just you three.”

This statement hinted that it was not the first time that these four have secretly met up for Fenia’s exclusive consultation without the presence of Dolan, Christina and Lenia.

Nel, Fatima and her familiar seemed to be well acquainted with this line up and appeared nothing short of calm and collected.

「It’s about Christina, right? She’s gotten a lot more cheerful now than she was before summer break, so this is about what happened at Bern Village…」

Keeping her usual pouty mood, Fatima brought her right index finger to her chin, steeped in thoughtful reflection.

Nell agreed with her friend’s words.

「During the summer, it’s certain that she spent a lot of time together with Dran」

In response to their remarks, Phenia closed her folding fan and returned it to its holder attached to her skirt’s belt, and then she regained a dignified expression on her face.

Phenia is an intelligent and wise woman, but she is also extremely lively and boisterous, so it is quite rare to see such a serious expression on her face.

Phenia tends to be hidden by the brilliance that radiates from her appearance and mentality, and Nell and Fatima admired her beauty, as they waited for her words to spill from her lips.

However, Phenia’s serious expression lasted for only a short moment.

Soon enough, the complacent smile returned to her face and she spoke with unconcealed curiosity and excitement in her voice.

「So, so, this must mean that Christina? About Dran? She maybe, perhaps, is now conscious of Dran as a man now?」

So in short, the reason why Phenia called Fatima, Nell, and Sierra over and held this meeting is because their beloved friend, Christina, might have romantic feelings for her reliable junior, Dran, and they were just so, so curious about it, they couldn’t help it.

Even Phenia would think it is inappropriate to gossip about her classmates’ love affairs.

So she thinks, but this is Christina they are talking about.

She is the very incarnation of beauty, who charms the students and staff at the Magic Academy more than anyone else in its history. Everyone knows that even if she were to show her face without any makeup in high society, every nobleman in the kingdom would become her follower.

Ever since she enrolled in the Academy, everyone admired and pined for her, and her beauty was so far above anyone else’s, people believed her to be a goddess, and as such, not a single person was brave enough to talk to her.

Christina herself never seemed to be interested in love, and talks of her being in a relationship never came up until now. But at the beginning of this year, some suspicious male student, in other words, Dran, suddenly showed up.

They had captured the attention of not just Phenia, but basically every student at the Academy, and if Christina and Dran ever entered a relationship, who knows how many of the students would go crazy from jealousy, envy and hatred.

In this way, Phenia had been thinking of Christina, and felt pity for her spending her time at the Magic Academy alone, but because of that, they were now friends.

If Christina, who had once sat by herself by the classroom window, lonely as she gazed outside, were to have the chance to enter a normal romantic relationship, then Phenia believed that would be a joyous thing, and it was something she would welcome wholeheartedly.

That’s why, Phenia would simply be happy to be able to talk about love-related things with her, as was normal for girls their age, without any envy or jealousy.

Inside her head, Phenia had already created a whole story about Christina and Dran being engaged, but there was infidelity going on. In the blink of an eye, her passionate, made up story in her head had become a disastrous scene.

「Nell, Fatima, do you think Christina has feelings for Dran, after all?

But isn’t Dran already engaged to Selina and Dramina?

Aah, is this really alright? This won’t end in a bloodbath, will it!?」

Phenia began squealing, as if Fatima and the others weren’t even there. Although they were exasperated as she acted like this every time, they still waited until she calmed down.

Whenever they start talking with her, Phenia always gets so passionate in the middle of the conversation like this.

They answered with bitter smiles as Phenia’s breathing became ragged with excitement, but the one to interject in order to calm her down was Nell.

「Lamia and Vampires aren’t defined as part of the human species in Arkrest, so even if they say themselves that they’re husband and wives, their marriage won’t be legally recognized.

That’s why, even if Dran gets married to a human besides those two, it wouldn’t be considered a crime.

But Selina and Dramina’s feelings about that are a different matter, so it’s as you say, Phenia, it might really turn into a bloodbath」

In response to Nell speaking matter of factly, Phenia seemed to be imagining what could happen, and the color drained from her face.

For better or worse, she is a strongly impressionable girl. Normally, she understands her own personality, and is able to control herself, but that wasn’t the case this time.

「Well, well, well then, what exactly should we do? I can’t help but feel scared that my friend will get hurt in this entanglement of love!

Furthermore, Dran gets along very, very well with Selina and Dramina.

But the same can be said for Christina too. If those four start quarreling, then… oh no, oh no, oh no…」

Phenia began to talk on and on, rushing through the conversation without stopping, and in response, Sierra smiled and spoke up.

「Nelneshia, it is better if you don’t provoke Phenia too much.

Dran and the others are perfectly able to talk it out and reach a peaceful solution, so it shouldn’t end in bloodshed.

Also, from what I can tell, Christina is a late bloomer when it comes to love affairs, so as long as Selina and Dramina are around, I believe she will keep restraining herself」

Sierra has become able to talk and act naturally with Fatima, but towards everyone else, she makes sure to not overstep her boundaries as a familiar.

「I-I-Is that so? Ah, it would be good if they could all reconcile peacefully, but, but that just sounds too good to be true, so I can’t help but still worry.

It may be none of my business, but a little bit of nosiness and sincere consideration will go a long way!」

So, Phenia more or less is self aware that she’s being nosy, and in response, Nell calmly nodded as she mumbled.

「You’re absolutely right. But by the way, since the Magic Tournament is almost near, is this really the time to be having this discussion?

We are more than willing to have tea with you any time, Phenia, but shouldn’t you make your priorities clearer first?」

「Of course, I already know that! The main battle of the Magic is the ideal opportunity to show your power to the nobility and the magic divisions throughout the kingdom.

It’s a time to be flashy– no, to be extremely gaudy, and to rage and go wild so one can stand out as much as possible. We may have skipped our training today, but I plan on going to the next one with double, triple the intensity, to make up for it!!」

Even though Phenia had gone pale from imagining some disturbing future for Christina and Dran all on her own, when the topic changed to the Magic Tournament, she seemed to come back to life, and as a blush rose to her cheeks, and a feverish heat radiated from her whole body, raising the temperature of her surroundings as well.

Phenia’s mood really changes at the drop of a hat, or so Fatima unconsciously muttered to herself in her heart.

And as Phenia and the others continued to talk boisterously, Diadora, who happened to be passing by on her way back to her room after her class ended, caught sight of them.

「Those girls really do get along. They’re so full of energy」

She mumbled that to herself with a pleasant feeling in her heart, and went unnoticed by Phenia and the others.

Phenia and Nell and Fatima and Sierra, and even Diadora as well; all of their hearts were truly at peace, for they never would have imagined that two of the Dragon Pillars had already descended to this earth, and were talking with Dran and the others, right at this very moment.
