Chapter 139
I glanced sideways at Christina, whose face had finally brightened up, and suggested tying up the loose ends here for the time being. The Deva remains had been destroyed by the heretics, but the ruins were still standing.
This place had been designed to seal and nurture the evil dragon. It would be tough to repurpose this area for military use, so it seemed better to destroy it before the kingdom could proceed with further investigations.
Yet, there was still Abyss Dawn to deal with. It was hard to forgive them for manipulating Lenia to serve their own heinous desires, and the hammer had to be brought down on them. The anger boiling within me, however, did not show on my face.
Lenia was supposed to be spending a quiet time in the Royal City with her parents. Perhaps it was a sense of foreboding that struck her, but she appeared out of the blue.
『Father, Father.』
I heard the voice of Lenia, the one who adored me innocently as her father. For a moment, my anger was calmed, until the thought of Lenia being manipulated popped into my mind again. My diminishing anger flared up once more with greater intensity.
When I replied to Lenia, I took extra care not to leak a single trace of my anger in my voice. Though, it was hard to tell whether Lenia’s voice would remain so serene after our conversation ended.
『What’s the matter, Lenia?』
『Sorry to bother you while you’re busy, but I had an inexplicable sensation running through my body earlier. My blood seemed to be bubbling while my body was prickling with pain. I reckon I’ll be fine if I leave this be, but I was wondering if you would happen to know what is going on. You are far more sensitive than I am, so perhaps you might have an idea of this sudden occurrence. I’m unlikely to be hurt even if I leave this feeling unattended, but my intuition is telling me not to ignore this matter. Father, my apologies, but would you happen to be in the know of something?』
Fumu…
I wondered whether Lenia had noticed the evil dragon when Gajra had fused with it or when the evil dragon had left Gajra’s control upon confronting Christina and Dreadnought. Regardless, I should not keep this a secret from Lenia, who was a party involved in this matter. Even though I was eager to hide this issue from Lena, it was not right for Lenia to bear the burden of being the crux of this incident without any knowledge of it.
After all, I deeply understood Lenia’s fury at those Abyss Dawn bastards for impudently revering the evil dragon and establishing their own religious doctrines along the way.
『Christina just finished resolving this. Lenia, this is an extremely unpleasant issue for both of us. Please stay calm and make sure not to unleash any powers as you listen to me. It is a truly distasteful matter.』
It was likely that Lenia’s parents and servants of the Blaster Blast family were with Lenia right now. If Lenia let her anger take over her, there was no doubt that these folks would physically explode or be turned into minced meat instantly.
As I related the happenings to Lenia, I could feel the compounding anger in her mind even as she fell silent. Yet, her restraint in keeping herself from losing control was indicative of her growth.
『This is the reason for the strange sensations you were feeling, Lenia. Abyss Dawn heretics attempted to reuse the ancient weapons forged from your cells. There’s no need for you to take action as Christina and Dreadnought have already cleaned up this mess.』
『Not at all, Father. Such audacious fools! Possessed and blinded by their desires! How dare they use my previous body in a bid to oppose you, who should be the highest existence in the heavens and the entire world!!』
『Lenia, I won’t ask you to calm down, but please ensure that you aren’t harming anyone around you.』
『Ugh, well, I’m sorry. I let my anger get to my head.』
『Lenia, I wouldn’t stop you if you were alone, but your parents and others are with you, aren’t they? In that case, please do all you can to restrain your powers. I’m furious at this incident as well, and I plan to eliminate Abyss Dawn. Moreover, Caravis won’t let this matter slide. She dotes on you so dearly, and she’ll definitely seek justice for you. Even if she can’t unleash her powers on the earthly world, she is bound to pull some tricks and achieve her aims. Abyss Dawn is doomed. Lenia, I won’t stop you from retaliating, but don’t overdo it.』
『Yes, I will ensure that this planet isn’t damaged in any way.』
Even though I offered such warnings to Lenia, I probably had to keep in mind not to go overboard with my own retaliation. Even though I yearned to crack down on Abyss Dawn, I still had to make sure that Caravis did not go on a preposterous rampage due to her rage.
Just as I finished my conversation with Lenia, I caught sight of the prince and princess returning on their horse golems. They were slowly approaching, riding back up the path that led down the mountain.
Even though their return made me feel uneasy, there was no doubt that they would be glad to know that none of us had sacrificed our lives. That reaction made things a little better.
Princess Frau was in the lead of the horse golems. When she noticed that all of us were safe, pearly tears welled and streamed down her cheeks. Seeing this turn of events, the rest of us shifted our gazes to Christina. Although Princess Frau was worried about everyone present, she had clearly been most anxious about Christina’s safety.
Our silent gazes seemed to convey the same message—Christina, you’re taking responsibility for stopping those tears.
「Please go on ahead of me.」
Christina finally surrendered to our gazes and jogged over to Princess Frau. It seemed like Christina was rather favored by Princess Frau, and there was a likelihood that Christina would even be instated as a knight of the imperial guards.
「Christina has really won Her Highness’s favor, hasn’t she?」
Princess Frau had dismounted the horse golem and was speaking with Christina. The princess was even patting Christina here and there to check for injuries. As the two women went on with this, Selina muttered to me from my side.
「That’s clear for anyone to see. I hope things work out in Christina’s favor, but her luck with such matters isn’t the best.」
「It’s a tough situation, though I pity Her Highness. It’s my guess that Christina has no desire to work in the Royal Palace, but I can be sure that she’s undecided about her future for now.」
「I share your opinion, Selina. Christina will probably end up rejecting Princess Frau with a deeply sincere apology.」
