Chapter 174 — Part 2

Christina sensed the threat that was forming at her feet at almost the same time that Dreadnought, gripped in her left hand, raised a warning to her.

『I sense the temperature at your feet rising rapidly. Be cautious of a violent attack from Phenia’s fire-type magic』

「It’s a surprise attack I set up while we were talking: Rising Earth Blaze!」

Before Christina’s ears could pick up the sound of the heated earth bubbling and popping, the tip of Dreadnought pierced the earth which had begun to melt.

「Dreadnought!」

『Order accepted. Drive』

At the same time as Dreadnought’s reply, which only Christina could hear, Christina was enveloped in a pure white steam. And even with her vision, heat recognition, and magic sensing abilities, all senses of presence were blocked from Phenia, making it impossible for her to grasp what was going on inside of the steam.

「Goodness, Christina, you’ve become able to pull off stunts like this? In the East, it is said that if you don’t meet with a man for three days, he becomes nothing, but if you don’t meet with a woman for just one day, she becomes nothing but flowers in full bloom!」

The steam, which completely blocked off Phenia’s powers of perception, suddenly began to swirl around and was sucked in into a single point.

The steam looked like the water in a bathtub after the drain plug was suddenly pulled, and Phenia could see Christina’s situation now, but the sight she saw was so far out of her expectations that her eyebrows suddenly jumped up, and she groaned aloud.

The thing that was inhaling all of the steam was a cute little boy who looked to be about ten years old, with his mouth wide open.

He wore an outfit consisting of a blue and black jacket, and white half pants with a simple design. Together with his light pink, long hair and his golden eyes, he gave off a truly gorgeous impression.

The sight of the unfamiliar boy raised a number of questions in Phenia’s mind, but since she was still in the middle of a mock battle with Christina, she did not let them cause any delays in her actions.

「Christina, extermination of the threat, complete」

「Good job. Now then, let’s counterattack, Dreadnought!」

「Yes, my Master!」

In response to Christina’s call, Dreadnought who had taken the form of an innocent young boy broke out into a run toward Phenia.

The fact that it ran at her as fast as Christina, who was already above normal human standards, was probably because he was a superweapon, and a masterpiece from a very ancient civilization.

On the other hand, Phenia roughly understood the situation, just from hearing Christina call the boy Dreadnought. Even when confronted by situations beyond her expectations, Phenia’s flexibility to accept them without stopping to think about it is definitely one of her strong points.

「Christina, I almost had some naughty and wild idea that you were into this or that, and couldn’t tell anyone about it!」

Rather than avoiding the rain or fireballs that attacked her from the sides that Phenia had sent out in a counterattack, Christina pushed forward and slashed them down directly, and she responded that she was truly upset, from the bottom of her heart.

「What a nonsensical rumor!」

「I confirm it. Originally, I was a sword. This form is nothing more than a temporary body, it has no deeper meaning」

It was just as Dreadnought said. In the past, when the sword had interfered in her consciousness, she had perceived Dreadnought in the form of a young girl, but Dreadnought was also free to take on the form of a boy here and there too.

He wasn’t really strictly defined to a single gender.

「My, if that’s the case, then isn’t it even more likely to raise doubts about Christina’s interests? My, oh my!」

「…………」

「Dreadnought! If you stay silent like that, then won’t I look more and more suspicious!?」

「Recommencing combat」

「Please don’t just leave her doubts unresolved!」

Dreadnought had once sworn to devote his entirety to Christina, but from the sound of this exchange, it was doubtful whether that vow had ever been true.

It’s also quite possible that Christina’s request that Dreadnought act more casually and at ease with her had gone too far, and things ended up like this.

Seeing the amusing exchange between Christina and Dreadnought, and Phenia enjoying the mock battle despite her misunderstanding, Fatima answered Sierra’s earlier question with absolute confidence.

「Yeah! That kind of exchange between them is proof that they get along. After Christina becomes a baron and sets up her new house, their chances to meet will go way down, so isn’t this just Phenia’s way of showing how much she doesn’t want to say goodbye?」

「I never thought I’d see such a dangerous way of saying goodbye」

As a half-vampire, Sierra’s health was more robust and she had gained more regenerative abilities than she had when she was purely human, but even with that kind of body, she didn’t think for a second that she would be able to intervene in the mock battle between those two. She would just end up getting vaporized instantly.

She felt like she has become keenly aware of some above-standard beings among humanity. Not to mention Dran, who isn’t here now, is a monster that is even further off the charts.

While Sierra was deep in thought about how her life had progressed, Fatima, with her back still leaning against Nelneshia, looked in a different direction and opened her mouth.

「Hmm, I thought Lenia would be in a bad mood since Dran isn’t here, but it doesn’t seem like she is. But, I wonder, why is she so fond of that person? Nell-chan, do you know her?」

「No, I don’t know. When I first saw them, it looked like Lenia was considerably close to her, but from what I could tell, Lenia seems to be most forgiving to her, second to Dran」

In the end, Dran hadn’t left a clone of himself behind in Galois. Everyone thought Lenia would run wild because of that, but that expectation was surprisingly betrayed.

Lenia was also here together with everyone, but she wasn’t paying any attention to Christina or Fatima and the others, and instead, she was sitting on the mat with her back to them, while comforting a certain woman.

Lenia’s smile was full of kindness toward the woman who was sobbing with her face buried in Lenia’s lap, and she stroked the woman’s golden hair as if she were comforting a baby.

Compared to Lenia, who looks younger than her actual age, the woman being comforted strangely looked like she was a year older, with her voluptuous body shaped into a deep blue dress that could make anyone’s blood run cold.

No matter how rigidly disciplined of a clergyman or virtuous person someone was, this woman was naturally covered with a charm that could haunt their imagination with lewd thoughts all night long, but the way she was crying right now was the complete opposite of her appearance.

「Waaaaah, waaaah, hic, wa–urk, baaaaah!」

Although she possessed a voice that anyone would associate with a beautiful woman, her crying voice was truly unfortunate. Worse was that she ended up choking in the latter half.

In response to that hopeless woman, Lenia’s maternal side showed completely without any reservation. Rather, exactly because of that hopelessness, the maternal side sleeping deep within Lenia manifested even more strongly.

「What is the matter? It’s not every day that you, one of the greatest and oldest goddesses that was born from the primordial chaos, would sob so much like this」

If one were to closely examine the words that Lenia whispered to the woman, in a way so that Fatima and the others couldn’t hear her, the identity of the crying woman could be easily understood.

Besides this goddess, there was no other being that Lenia could behave this way with.

Raising her tan colored face from Lenia’s lap, which was now a mess of snot and tears, the woman — Caravis — began to tell Lenia about what had happened.

「I was so happy and excited and anxious and thrilled about coming to earth, but… Dra-chan isn’t even here!

A-Also, unlike all the times before, he even put tons of care into concealing himself somehow, so I can’t find hiiiim! Waaaaah!」

Managing to tell Lenia about that much, Caravis once again buried her face in Lenia’s lap, and continued to make the cloth of Lenia’s skirt even more messy.

「To think something like that had happened. I’ve also been out of contact with Father myself, but to think the same was happening to you. I am truly sorry, from the bottom of my heart」

「Uuuu, just hearing you say that is such a comfort. But for me to be distracted from the sadness of being ignored by Dra-chan, let me borrow your lap a little longer!!」

From Dran’s point of view, since he was going to visit another country this time, he didn’t want Caravis showing up to attack him on a whim, but it seems Caravis didn’t feel the same way.

But for Lenia, she regrettably couldn’t help but love her creator, even with all of his hopeless blunders.

She strongly believes that he is useless without her. That is the very state of mind that a woman falls into when she is enraptured by a parasitic, no-good man.

「Yes, if my lap will do, then feel free to use it until the end of time」

However, that is not to say that having Caravis continue to cry in her lap was completely unbeneficial to her.

At the very least, while Caravis was crying with Lenia, Lenia was able to forget her loneliness from Dran’s absence.

If you think about it, this has created a situation in Galois where Caravis’s disgraceful behavior could actually be called useful.
