Chapter 200

While Dran was showing the high priests from the religious orders of Mairahl and Keios, along with the inspectors from the kingdom, around Caravis Tower, the women who had obediently stayed behind to keep watch in Bern Village were taking a break once they found some time to spare.

It was a girls’ night out, meant for them to share information with each other and to deepen their friendships while Dran was away.

The girls’ meeting was scheduled to be held in the courtyard of the mansion which Christina was finally starting to get used to living in.

This kind of meeting had been held several times before, with Shenna, who was in charge of accounting in Bern, and Dina, who was now the medical director, participating. But this time, it was just Christina, Dramina, Diadora, and Ente, all of whom knew the true identity and circumstances of Dran’s soul.

As Christina took her seat, she thought to herself seriously that if the people of the kingdom knew that the table, which was covered with a stylishly embroidered tablecloth, and the chairs, had been sent to her by Ryoukichi and were carved from dragon horns, they would be so surprised, their hearts would jump right out of their mouths.

At least it wasn’t the actual horn of the Water Dragon Emperor, Ryoukichi, herself, so that was a relief… Yes, she supposed it was a relief.

Even so, it appeared to be the horn of a very high ranking dragon, and any mage or scholar would be willing to go bankrupt just to obtain this set.

This table set, let alone the teapot, teacups, and the tea leaves as well, were all of the highest quality, and it was doubtful whether even the royal family of a big country would be able to afford all this, let alone the baroness of a remote land.

These items were a gift, and were a cornerstone of maritime trade with the Ryuuguu Kingdom.

The fact that Christina herself thinks the value of these things weren’t just unbefitting of her stature, but also her status, it couldn’t be helped that she considered it a waste of such a treasure.

But more than that, it was the identities of the people gathered here that would definitely cause a storm of astonishment if the world were to find out about them.

Christina is the direct descendant of the Seven Heroes who had killed the Ancient Celestial Dragon, Diadora is a Black Rose Spirit who has taken in the poisonous flowers of the Demon World and the power of Dragon, Dramina is the second founding Vampire who has mastered the six sacred vampire weapons, and Ente is Yggdrasil itself, of which there are only five existing on this planet.

This group was more rare than any other group of kings or emperors of any human nation in the world.

However, except for Dramina, the other three had little awareness of this, and this carefree lack of awareness was a pretty common trait for the people who are close to Dran.

After all, it’s Dran himself, the most extraordinary person in the world, who thinks that it’s not that big of a deal.

The representative of the Caravis Order, who the two representatives from the other religious orders felt a strong sense of danger from, was now on the way to Caravis Tower with Dran, but Christina and the others had to deal with the representatives of the other orders who would follow after them.

Although they haven’t arrived yet, the number of merchants and adventurers who seem to have caught a whiff of a lucrative opportunity has increased, and they needed to be dealt with urgently, so this girls’ night out was meant to be a short breather before the big day comes.

Christina had been registered as a member of the Galois Adventurers’ Guild for a time, so her abilities and personality were known to everyone at the guild, from the guild leader of the Galois branch to the receptionist.

It has been officially announced that Christina, now the Baron of Bern, would be resuming the pioneering exploration of the north, so even if Caravis Tower hadn’t been a thing, it was only natural that she would try to expand the roots of Bern Village through the new demand for adventurers.

The adventurers are known for their ability to do anything, but since the Arkrest Kingdom has a functioning military, there are not many requests with a high possibility for battle, such as escorting or defeating people.

On that note, in Bern Village, where there may be creatures of different races to the north, such as monsters and demons, there is potential for this unexplored place to be like a treasure trove for adventurers.

Naturally, the Baron of Bern would like to monopolize those benefits, but considering the manpower, time, and money it would require, joining forces with the Adventurers’ Guild, with their talented people, unique technology, and wide information network, was a possibility, even if it meant accepting some disadvantages.

However, compared to most other normal noble estates, the Baron of Bern’s land was exceptional, so not only the Adventurers’ Guild, but also merchants and the religious orders will have to deal with this land differently than with others.

Christina turned her attention to the sweets on the white porcelain plate in front of her in order to momentarily forget the nervousness and anxiety of the paperwork and foreign negotiations that were sure to come in the near future, all of which was a much heavier workload than she ever had when she was a student.

As a superhuman, her intellect, physical strength, and mental strength stood far above the rest, but it seems when she has to deal with something she isn’t good at, she shrinks back from it like a vegetable that has just been sprinkled with salt.

The fork that she held in her fingers slowly split open the red dough of the roll cake on her plate.

This roll cake was made by kneading the juice and flesh of a variety of apples called the Sun Terrace, grown by the elves within Ente Forest.

Thanks to the rich and abundant mana provided by Ente Yggdrasil, the Sun Terrace apples have bright red skin, and the flesh of the fruit was also the same color. They contained a large amount of nutrients, sugar and mana, and they are a rare commodity that are priced several tens of times higher than the ordinary apples found outside of Ente Forest.

By making use of their one advantage of being able to trade directly with the various races of Ente Forest, Bern was in control of all the transactions that involved rare fruits, wood, and plants and flowers, including the Sun Terrace apples.

That is how they were able to monopolize the specialty products from Ente Forest, and process them in order to raise their commercial value, so that now, Christina and everyone could eat these roll cakes.

She cut the soft cake into bite-sized pieces, and gently brought the piece of cake into her mouth. The roll cake melted in her mouth with no need to chew on it, and the small cubes of Sun Terrace apples gave a pleasant crunching sound and texture as she ate.

The small amount of fruit juice that overflowed from the pieces of Sun Terrace apples that had been kneaded into the dough, the sweetness of the sugar which was just the right amount so as not to be too sweet, and the refreshing tartness of the apples all mixed together in her mouth, filling her nose and her stomach with its pleasant aroma.

The countless bits of information that were transmitted to her brain from her tongue conveyed pure pleasure, and the fragrance that seemed to reach down to her lungs, along with the sensory information of the cake’s delicious taste running through her body, were all so vivid, it was as if her entire body was being revived.

Christina, Diadora, and Ente did not immediately voice their opinions on the taste of the roll cakes, and instead let out sighs of satisfaction, but only after they had finished their plates.

They couldn’t be grateful enough to all the chefs who had worked hard together until today to make this dish perfect.

Taking into account the rarity and the number of Sun Terrace apples that are grown, this was one of the first luxury sweets aimed toward the wealthy class, and its taste and appearance are undeniably brilliant. If they can pull off the pricing and the advertising method right, then it will surely sell well.

After Christina recovered her exhausted nerves and spirit from eating the other baked sweets that had been prepared together with the roll cake, along with a second and third cup of tea, she took a deep breath and returned her attention back to the task at hand.

「It’s like the sugar just soaks straight into your brain. I’m glad that I can continue to eat delicious sweets and dishes like this, not just as the Baron, but also as someone who just loves to eat」

In response to Christina’s honest opinion accompanied with her smile, the other three who were present all agreed, and each of them nodded with smiles on their faces.

In the middle of the peaceful atmosphere of this girls’ party, Diadora’s smile was more of a teasing kind, and she was directing it toward Christina.

「Out of the four of us, Christina, you’re the only one who can properly eat this though. Ente-sama and I live off of sunlight and clean water and mana, while Dramina gains the most nourishment from Dran’s blood」

「That may be true, but that doesn’t change the joy of eating together at the same table, right? I think even carnivorous beastmen would be able to accept this taste」

Although the majority of Arkrest Kingdom’s population was made up of pure humans, there are also beastmen with animal or insect-people with insect characteristics.

Between the pure humans and those beastmen, there are some points regarding tastes and palates that just cannot be compromised on, and even among the beastmen and insect-people themselves, they can be further divided into different categories, so it is difficult to find a taste that can be accepted by everyone as delicious.

「I know what you mean. Even I, who doesn’t need to eat the same food as humans, can find this tasty, so guarantee that you can have confidence and high expectations in this dish.

But in addition to expanding the village by cultivating the wastelands, training the soldiers, coordinating with the religious orders, and negotiating with outside merchants and nobles, you’re even making specialty products for the village? There’s a mountain of things that you’re doing. It’s like every time you take care of one task, three more pop up」

「I consider it a blessing to have so much work to do. I guess it’s not so bad to not do anything and just spend all day gazing at the clouds, but for right now, there is still work that I have to do.

Diadora, aren’t you also having a hard time with expanding the defensive walls, since you have to re-entangle the Black Roses with it? You aren’t just managing the botanical garden, but you’re also being asked to create perfumes and medicines too」

「The jobs that were given to me aren’t that big of a deal. I learned a few tricks about managing during my time at the Magic Academy. You look tired yourself, and your work must not be easy, you’re not feeling uncomfortable, are you?」

This was something that goes without question. The current situation was something that Christina had understood and wished for herself beforehand, and just as she wished, or maybe more than she wished, she had got what she wanted.

The paperwork, which she wasn’t good at, the occasional strolls through the village and the conversations she would have with the village chief and the villagers who would come to petition things to her, and the negotiations with the powerful merchants who hide their cold calculations underneath their friendly smiles, all of it was worthwhile to Christina.

Just as she had done in their past girls’ parties, since they were all friends, she had taken off her Agulurua bracelet. But even taking that into account, Diadora and Ente couldn’t help but be taken off guard and have their hearts skip a beat when Christina smiled, with an inner shine that sparkled more brilliantly than usual.

「Of course, I’ve never once thought that I hate this, or that I never should have been appointed to this role. Right now, I’m feeling more fulfilled than I ever have in my life, so I’m living each and every moment to the fullest」
