Chapter 205

Inside the Fire Dragon Emperor’s palace within Mount Hinogoku, some time had passed after Vaje had spent a tragic, heroic, and somehow humorous time in front of the Ancient Celestial Dragon, and suffered severe stomach and nerve damage because of it.

The dragons who came from the Dragon World were gathered in the room that had been prepared for them in the palace, to share their impressions of the day with each other.

Considering that all of them were on the same level as True Dragons or above, if a dragon researcher were to see this scene, they would go crazy on the spot from happiness and shock.

The interior of the room was decorated with extremely high purity metals like gold and mithril, as well as pyroxene stones and rubies, which gave the room a sense of magnificence and overwhelming scale that was suitable for the Dragonkin.

The area around Mount Hinogoku ruled by Fire Dragon Emperor Kourin was not as big as Ryuuguu Kingdom, but the palace inside the mountain is divided into different facilities for different types of species living there, even non-dragon ones.

The room that Dran and the others were in was located near the facility that the Fire Dragon Emperor uses. In other words, since it was a room that was for dragons to use, the floor plan is designed to fit adult sized dragons.

There wasn’t that much furniture in the room, but the walls and ceilings themselves had carvings of dragons entwined with rubies and big rocks, and dragon children playing in golden mountain ranges.

The reason why there wasn’t much furniture was because most materials, with only a few exceptions, would end up getting scratched just by getting touched by the dragons’ huge bodies or tails, which are covered in hard scales, and the furniture would just get ripped to shreds eventually.

In order to avoid this, no furnishings or decorations were ever put in this room to begin with. Most importantly, more than any treasure contained within this palace, the dragons themselves were far more valuable.

In such a room as this, the dragons were gathered, and they are not only huge, but also so high in spiritual power, the word “mystical” was nowhere near enough to describe their impressive sense of intimidation. Their level of strength was more absurd than it was awe-inspiring.

Also, as all the dragons were looking at each other, they all more or less had troubled looks on their faces, which only made me smile even more.

Including Bahamut, the Dragonkin had long since studied about how they were viewed by their brethren on earth, but to actually experience it was more bewildering than they had expected.

The one expressing his feelings of tiredness from the bottom of his heart was the Fire Dragon God, Tetsu Akebi, whose face covered in ruby-colored scales was scrunched in a frown.

「Well, well, don’t our brethren on earth think far too highly of us? No, I don’t know if they’re glorifying us or deifying us, but I don’t think we’re that big of a deal」

Tetsu Akebi was completely overwhelmed by this feeling of fatigue which he has never felt before until now.

And it wasn’t just him. Starting with Himuro, a dragon with scales the color of burning iron, and Voldage, a True Dragon with scales the color of the setting sun, all the other dragons were all looking troubled.

For them, who have at best gotten along together, or at worst soaking in the frank and outspoken society of the Dragon World, the reverence of the earth dragons which went beyond regular hospitality made them uncomfortable.

「It’s as you say, Tetsu Akebi. Even though Dragon-sama and Bahamut-sama told us about it beforehand, this is terrible. No, it would be rude to them to call it terrible, but they just can’t relax around us.

Surely the fact that they have glorified us until now is definitely a problem. Even if we live in separate worlds, and even if there is a difference in power between us, we are brethren who belong to the same ancestor」

The one who started speaking calmly, but gradually became more heated, was Himuro. In human terms, she was a female Dragon God who could be called a beautiful young woman.

Even a Dragon God like her seems to be overwhelmed by the feelings of her earth brethren, which are made up of half goodwill and half respect, and since she couldn’t just disregard them, just had no choice but to accept them.

Looking around at the other dragons and seeing that they were all also just as worn out, Bahamut spoke up sternly. Even though Bahamut meant to speak normally, due to the natural dignity he was born with, it didn’t sound that way.

「Tetsu Akebi and Himuro, even though both of you knew about it beforehand, it seems you now understand the reason why this is a problem, after experiencing it firsthand. Including Vritra, who went to see the Wind Dragon Emperor, and Alexander, who went to the White Dragon Emperor, everyone else is also experiencing the same thing.

The only exceptions are Leviathan and the others who had gone to the Water Dragon Emperor, because they had communicated with Dran beforehand.

Things like this will definitely happen again in the future. We must not be disheartened by this kind of thing. That is because our brethren have expanded quite a lot throughout this earth. Dran, I’ll have you help us as well」

「I plan on working as hard as it takes. I don’t mind. Now then, I understand that you would be confused by the high respect that our brethren on earth are giving to us, but that just shows how much they love and respect us. They definitely don’t mean anything bad by it.

It’s regretful that there’s not much that we can do for them in return, but we mustn’t be reluctant to strive toward joining hands and coexisting together. That is something that Tetsu Akebi and Himuro and the others understand, right?」

「That goes without question, Dragon-sama, but the fact is that there is too much of a difference in power between us for us to join hands.

It would have been a different story if our powers were restricted upon coming down to earth like it is for the gods, but we can wield the same power on earth as we do in the Dragon World.

Because of that, even if we try to just pat them on the head or something, we would be such a threat to our earthen brethren, their souls would end up getting extinguished.

If we don’t restrain ourselves from the very moment we step foot on this earth, even the smallest of mistakes on our end would cause tremendous damage to the earth」

「Even the Dragon Emperors are limited to blowing up stars, but I can’t say I didn’t wish that they had maintained enough of their power to at least destroy a single universe, if not a multidimensional one.

There’s no use saying this now, but I can’t help but wish that there was someone among our brethren on earth who is strong enough to bridge the gap between us. However, this is where we have to meet our brethren halfway.

Besides, we won’t be displaying our powers, and we won’t become too constrained. There’s nothing wrong with being careful, but it would be good if we don’t have to be」

「If so, that would be good, but if I remember correctly, when Dragon-sama offered to help, the Dragon Emperors refused. In that case, they wouldn’t want our help either」

Tetsu Akebi brought his fingers to his lower jaw, making the sound of rubbing scales, and Himuro, who was thinking the same thing, pretended to think about it for a while, and then she nodded her head in agreement.

「You’re right. Kourin and all the other Dragon Emperors were always more than capable of fighting against invaders from other worlds or the soldiers of evil gods, so there was never much of a chance for us to interfere.

And if we ever did, it was only because Alexander-sama would have been irritated, and he would go do something about it.

I don’t know if our brethren from other planets would react the same way, but I would expect that they have the spirit and pride to say the same thing as the ones who live on this planet」

Even on this planet, the one they had first started out on, they were already mentally fatigued, but such was the case even for those who had already experienced skirmishes with Dran.

The Dragonkin on other planets, who could only see the visit of the dragons from the Dragon World as a dream or a fantasy, if they were suddenly told of this visit one day, their hearts would surely stop in surprise.

For better or worse, the Dragonkin have a huge effect on the ecosystems of the planets they live on, so if one day, they had heart attacks all at once, who knows what would happen to those worlds?

「Himuro, that might be too high of an expectation. Interaction with our brethren won’t end in just one day, and we should try to identify as many problems as we can, and decide how to deal with them, from now on」

Fortunately, the population of the dragons in the Dragon World is as numerous as the number of stars in the sky.

Anyway, unlike other gods or higher beings, they have experienced very few deaths due to conflict, so their numbers would only keep increasing from now on. Thanks to that, a large number of them are able to come to earth and visit their brethren, who are now widespread throughout the world.

When their interaction reaches a certain level of progress, it would be good to have exchanges not only between the Dragon World and earth, but also between the earth dragons and their brethren on other faraway planets throughout the sea of stars in space. If that happens, the Dragonkin might be able to achieve interstellar communication faster than the human civilization on the planet Arcadian.

「By the way, Dran, what happened to the Crimson Dragon lady you had at your side earlier? I saw that her family was quite shocked…」

The one who asked Dran this question was Bahamut. With the mug in his hand, he had drawn fresh lava from a nearby large pot that had a warming function, and then gulped it down before speaking.

「She felt terribly dejected. Even though I hadn’t planned on revealing or announcing to Vaje that I was an Ancient Celestial Dragon when we first met, I can’t deny that my decision resulted in an unfair outcome for her.

I think I was able to convince them not to blame Vaje too much. I’ll try to look out for you all as much as I can, but I hope you’ll use me as an example and try to get along with our brethren, okay?」

「The Ancient Celestial Dragon himself has become an important example. There’s nothing we can do to argue」

Bahamut replied while laughing jokingly, but Dran muttered to himself that if they didn’t, he would be troubled.
