Chapter 218
Due to the hacking by Dreadnought, Gundeus was being held back from taking action, and Gandoga Kanafu was temporarily forced to stop moving.
Shion had already recovered from the silencing of her sensors, and she turned all of her weapons toward Lynette and Gundeus in an attempt to destroy them both.
「It’s certainly good that you’re pointing your weapons, but I sincerely wish you could read the atmosphere better!」
In response to Shion firing countless bullets endlessly and mercilessly, Lynette switched the Taslam Ray into rapid fire mode, and shot down as many bullets as she could. At the same time, Gundeus also deployed a defensive force field to cover a wide area and protect them, as they continued to fend off the incoming fire.
The inability to take evasive maneuvers reduced her options, but Lynette continued to work with the tsunami of information coming from Gandoga Kanafu.
A round defensive force field protected Gandoga Kanafu and Gundeus, and the light of the explosions covered the boundary of the force field. It caused so much destruction, if a third party had been there, they would have feared that the command center itself had been damaged.
Gandoga Kanafu, with its built-in perpetual motion engine, was capable of staying semi-permanently active, as long as the amount of energy consumed does not exceed the amount that is generated.
The energy needed to deploy the defensive force field and to repair it against the heavy load it was enduring was still within an acceptable range, so it wouldn’t be a problem even if this state of petrification continued.
But there was a high chance that it would become a problem if more Tenkeiki from Korato were to arrive as reinforcements for Shion in order to recapture the facility.
If Lynette could get a supply of power through the path of connection she had with Dran, there would be no problem even if the number of Tenkeiki increased to the billions or trillions. But Lynette personally wanted to solve this situation involving the Tenkeiki with as little of Dran’s help as possible.
Although Lynette herself disliked her own trivial stubbornness, it was the unshakable truth that this was something that she could not just give up on.
Should she somehow weave through a gap in Shion’s bombardment and launch a counterattack, or should she take Gundeus and secure their escape? At the very moment Lynette was pondering over this, the words that she so desperately wished to hear came back to her from Dreadnought.
—- The resetting of Gundeus is complete. Lynette, hurry and retreat.
「Understood. I will retreat from the main facility」
No sooner had she said that than she threw the oppressed Gundeus into Gandoga Kanafu’s shadow, and then Gandoga Kanafu deployed its own defensive force field in front of it, and began to retreat backwards with all its power, all the while still facing front.
As soon as she jumped onto one of the pathways, she shot magic bullets from the strengthened Taslam Ray at the walls and ceiling, in order to cause it to collapse and block the pathway, preventing Shion from following.
Lynette’s judgement was not wrong in that Shion’s priority would change back to recapturing the facility if chasing after Lynette proved to be too difficult.
Even though she continued to fly through the facility without slowing down at all, there was no sign that Shion or any other Tenkeiki were chasing after Lynette. Aside from the corpses that had been left behind, all the other occupying forces and the people in black had already escaped the facility.
What they had obtained from the infiltration this time was the information Edward had gotten from the main computer, and the two people Lynette had detained, Kyrlinne and Gundeus, which had happened perhaps because of her own ego, or because it was her first real strong desire of her own.
She flew through the facility, and as she reached a point near the surface of the earth, she fired a high powered shot with the Taslam Ray to create a large hole in the ground and escape to the surface. From there, she would have to contact Edward and the others and meet back up with them.
As she ascended into the stratosphere, she once again checked the status of her aircraft, and Lynette muttered to herself.
「At any rate, if those people in black are from Todorokuni, then who were those occupying forces? If they were aliens, the people on the moon would have detected them, and if they were from even further west of Romal Empire, or from the south, or…」
Lynette looked to the north. At the vast land to the north, split by the steep and grand Mores Mountains.
