Chapter 242

Vaje thought back to her past competition against Lenia on the shores of Gorneb for the extermination of Ocean Demons. They used to bicker and hurl insults at each other every time they met, and their animosity had ballooned.

Now that Vaje was aware of the true natures of the souls of Dran and Lenia, she could not help but wonder how she had behaved in that manner before she had been barely acquainted with Lenia. Only before Lenia, someone who had recovered her powers as a beast created by a god, did Vaje appear slightly inferior.

This memory surfaced in Vaje’s mind like her life flashing before her eyes before death as she spun in mid-air. She had suffered a punch on her chin from the right fist of Lenia’s Thought Dragon. Even after Vaje had conveyed the dangers of Lenia’s powers to Winchant and Klaubord who were fighting Lenia for the first time, she was the one who launched an aggressive attack on Lenia. This very move agitated Lenia, who had barely released signs of her being a magical beast made by a god.

Vaje feared that Winchant and Klaubord might misjudge the steps they should take and be seriously injured if she, who knew Lenia’s true strength and nature, did not initiate the first attack.

This was an act akin to self-sacrifice that was uncharacteristic of Vaje. However, she was a loyal woman who acted on instinct when the thought of her fellow dragons turning to ashes entered her mind.

That was why Vaje repeatedly attacked Lenia’s Thought Dragon with all her might. Once Winchant and Klaubord had regained their composures, they joined the fray and unleashed a constant stream of attacks that were far too horrifying to launch against humans.

However, the overwhelming difference in the two parties’ abilities and Lenia’s unparalleled power output nullified all of the dragons’ attacks. Vaje, who was closest to Lenia, became the first casualty.

Vaje was launched into the air and crashed head first to the ground with her consciousness crushed. Her neck was bent in a direction that it should never be in, but there was no need to worry about broken bones as the Crimson Dragon had a far more robust skeleton than steel.

Winchant and Klaubord turned to look back at Vaje, who had let out a strained cry and fainted. Then, they heard a voice behind them so terrifying that it sent chills down their spines.

There was no doubt that it was the voice of a frail young girl, but it weighed down on their hearts and made them freeze up in fear.

「Wind Dragon and Thunder Dragon! Are you sure you wanna be distracted?」

Immediately after, the two dragons whose instincts were screaming of danger were crushed by Lenia’s Thought Dragon.

Winchant and Klaubord were doomed to a spectacular head-on collision just like Vaje. Even though Lenia possessed extraordinary combat abilities, she understood that this battle was a chance to put on a show for these dragons and her juniors.

She struck the jaws of the three young dragons from below, holding back just enough to cause a slight concussion. In no time, the three that were sprawled out on the ground stood up, their legs trembling like newborn fawns.

Lenia snorted in amusement and spoke with a smile of absolute dominance, convinced that she was in an unshakable position of superiority.

「Come on, you can still stand! Right now, we’re just having a mock battle where no one dies. However, you’ll be facing a real fight for survival, a battle to the death, in the near future in Bern. If you still have the strength to stand, the strength to breathe, the strength to gnash your enemy’s throat with your fangs, then get up and fight! Overcome this mock battle with way too many layers of protection!」

Lenia yelled out with a determination for the battlefield, a voice that one would easily mistake for the presence of a monster or a god. In response to this declaration, Nelneshia and Manos nodded repeatedly in absolute agreement. Kushli and Aznar shuddered from the bottom of their hearts, wondering what kind of warrior Lenia was to possess enough power to overwhelm dragons.

Dran admitted that his daughter’s philosophy was indeed true, but he wondered if it was a little too much even for dragon opponents. He would intervene and stop the fight if Winchant and Klaubord were in danger, but he decided to wait a little longer since they seemed all right for now.
