A Letter from Lady V
“Hey, that’s it, right? The bicycle shop? There’s a picture on the sign.”
Dusk was settling over downtown Manhattan.
Victorique perched on the back rack of an old black bicycle while Kazuya pedaled furiously. Nico ran alongside them.
Laundry flapped from windows on both sides of the street. The air was thick with the scents of gutter water, car exhaust, and dinner. People bustled past, eager to get home.
“Yeah, that’s the one. It’s near Newspaper Row too. If my bike ever breaks down, I might come here.”
“But it’s so small. I thought it’d be more impressive. It’s like half the size of Roma Café, or maybe even smaller.”
They stopped in front of a rundown little shop, wedged between towering buildings. The handmade sign read, Sue Sue Bicycle! with an image of a bicycle.
Kazuya led the way inside. “Good evening. Uh, I’m…”
“Oh, the detective’s assistant, right? How’s our daughter’s case going?”
