Chapter 10.3. The Healer.
As the merchant caravan approached Kebelek, tired and dusty from long journey, Cian felt a twinge of unease. The town lay nestled amidst lush forest, river meandering through its heart like lifeblood itself.
Lilith rode at head of the caravan, her eyes scanning horizon for any sign of danger, even as she kept watchful gaze on companions behind. Sharr brought up rear, snakelike form winding sinuously, over uneven ground with predatory grace.
The town gates loomed before them now, wooden planks weathered by time yet standing strong against ravages of nature and man alike. Guard patrolled ramparts overhead, spears glinting in sunlight, as they called out challenge to newcomers below.
– State your business! – came cry, rough voice carrying easily over chatter merchants.
Lilith reined horse to halt, dark hair falling like curtain around her face, hidden by mask, as she turned towards gatekeepers, with cool appraising gaze.
– We come in peace,
