Chapter 287: Magic Circle Inspection
「It is truly amazing… 」
I beamed while uttering words of admiration.
Dinosso and Retze seemed baffled as they stared at me.
「Indeed. I doubt I can create such a complex magic circle. 」
The priest seemed pleased with my praise.
The room with magic circles is generally exclusive for clients. It would be fine if it’s only about viewing your own contracted spirits, but I don’t have any sort of injuries so I can see the magic circle that can reportedly restore even missing body parts…
And so, I grabbed a rather important-looking priest, gave him donations and a little bit of personal tip and now I’m allowed to tour the temple.
There were small rooms beyond a corridor adorned with heavy curtains that reminded me of stage drapes. Each of those rooms have their own curtains at the entrance — there’s a room where Chris’s little brother saw the spirit possessing him, a healing room, a room for releasing spirits — they each have their own magic circle.
For matters that can be easily dealt with, the clients are either guided to a room without a magic circle or they are led to pray in the main hall with the statues — the priests then use magic and the treatment is done just like that.
Right now, we’re being shown the magic circle that can heal grave injuries like missing body parts for the grande finale of the tour. Pillars reminiscent of those in Greece’s historical ruins surrounded the magic circle, with heavy drapes hanging in between them.
There’s another circular opening on the ceiling, without any glass. This temple seems to favor circle-shaped windows, huh… Oh, but it does seem dramatic to have light shining down like a spotlight in a dark room. Should I make a hole in the Spirit Bough’s room on the island?
Nah, it won’t work, huh. Ack, the image of Haniwa dancing under a pin spot while sporting an afro flashed in my mind.
I inspected and memorized the things written on the circle while pretending to gaze at the molding. Hmm, hmm, I see, I see. Alright, I won’t be able to remember it all, so let’s go to the library later!
「This is extremely beautiful. However, won’t it be ruined when it rains? 」
It doesn’t rain that often here, but I can’t help but be concerned about it. What will they do if rain pours through the ceiling?
「We have spirits that sense impending rain and they will notify us. The priests will then put up the roof. 」
The priest explained. Ohh, they have a manual closure mechanism in place, huh!
「The management of the temple is quite difficult. We are grateful for the day to day endeavors of the priests-sama. 」
「It is truly gratifying to hear such words from our dear patrons. 」
Yeah, we’re the source of your ripped-off donations, after all.
By the way, they also have light on the pillars, so I wonder if those are the same as the spirit lights in Khan’s place and the ones I installed on the island — er, are they broken versions of those lights with candles inside?
I glanced at Khan, but he didn’t seem to notice.
Ack, that initial impact is fading, and the flaws are becoming more obvious now, you know? Ugh, okay, I have to make sure not to cut corners with the island’s design…
We ended the field trip and left the temple. The spirits were peeking at me here and there, but I must ignore them. I’ll lose if I mind them.
「It’s been a while since my face was this tired. 」
「Can’t believe you can socialize with a fake smile plastered on your face…… 」
「Yeah, sure it’s a pain-in-the-neck, but I can do it. 」
Dinosso looked worn out.
「Rather than that, behind us… 」
Butler commented while still looking straightforward.
「Something bad? 」
Retze knitted his brows.
「Mm. A few spirits from the temple are following us. 」
「Oy… 」
Retze seemed discomfited when he heard Ash’s words.
The Seeing group — everyone except for Retze, that is — kept walking stiffly with their gaze straight ahead.
「I didn’t do anything, alright? 」
There’s a chance that they’re following somebody else.
「It’s Jean’s charm. 」
Ash, that’s not being supportive if you say that at this time.
「Do something about it. 」
「So unreasonable! 」
『Ehem. Hi, all the spirits following behind us. You’re standing out too much, and I might get scolded if someone discovers you lot, so can you please travel individually so that we won’t be busted? 』
I tried to fulfill Dinosso’s unreasonable request.
No, there’s a chance that they’re not following me, but that they have a habit of going somewhere at this time, right?
「….They scattered. 」
Ahh, that possibility became nonexistent because of Khan’s comment.
「Don’t make a mess in the city, okay? 」
「I’m innocent. 」
Dinosso warned me, but I didn’t do anything!!
「I’m going to the Guild now. Dean and Chris are also supposed to go there, but we’ll try to wrap up the discussion early so we can return to Canum. 」
We parted ways with Dinosso, Retze and Khan.
Khan would get acquainted with bigshots, while Retze would observe the temple’s person who can See.
「I’m happy that we’ll be going home, but don’t force yourself to compromise just so we can do that. 」
Ash, Butler and my appearance at the guild would depend on the discussion between Dinosso and them, and we’ll probably go there at the guild’s appointed schedule.
「I’m not troubled about money matters, but won’t Dean be upset and cry that it’s bad for Wolf King’s reputation if they’re gonna compensate us cheaply? 」
Ooh, financially stable, huh, what a reliable guy you are, Retze. But Dean might end up completely broke if he were to pay me back.
「It’s not enough for my wife! 」
Dinosso aggressively declared. This family guy…!!
When we reached the inn, Zabuton was there. I don’t believe it’s my fault.
