Chapter 325: Confirmation
「Ou, so I’m the last one here, huh. Here, from Shiva. 」
Somebody knocked on the backdoor and Dinosso appeared when I called out.
「Thanks. 」
He handed me a soup pot that can be hung on the fireplace. A nice aroma wafted from it.
The mouth was covered with a cloth and tied with a hemp cord.
「So Retze was captured too, huh. 」
「It was too late last night so we didn’t meet, but fortunately, I encountered him earlier this morning. 」
Dinosso sat down and Butler smoothly passed a cup of tea to him.
The pot was wrapped in a towel and was still warm. I removed the cover and plated the contents. It’s a special treat so let’s enjoy it with everyone.
「Magic is completely out of my field, you know. Wolf King, Shadow Wolf, Grand Mage… Matter of fact, it’s totally weird that I’m here in the first place. If the Ice Princess Shiva and Grandiose Blossom Saintess are here, the legendary party would be complete. 」
Retze said disgruntledly.
That Grandiose Blossom Saintess was the Healer in Dinosso’s party, apparently. ‘Grandiose Blossom’ was the title of one of the temple ‘flowers’, apparently.
I usually learn about these stuff during our drinking sessions, mostly from Dean. Thanks to him, I heard plenty of stories about Valmour and this Saintess — who was apparently a beauty with ample, bouncing melons for a chest.
Oh, right, I was warned that it would be strange if I didn’t know anything about Valmour, and that even those living in far flung villages and remote countries knew his name.
The presence of spirits hastened the rumors’ spread far and wide, but Hauron’s 【Teleportation】probably had a hand with that since it’s highly likely that they visited many regions using that spell.
They usually went as pairs or threes, and the time spent with all five of them together had been brief, but the reason why I didn’t hear much regarding Butler and Hauron, although they’ve been there, was because Dean, the main story teller, had his own interest…
Butler was someone close to us so I knew about him at least, but Hauron’s name completely slipped out of my mind. Dean just referred to him as the Grand Mage, after all. No ill feelings towards Dean, it’s just that he was totally absorbed in the women and in fangirling at the guy who also wielded a broad sword like him.
「Hey, why are you looking at me like that? 」
「It’s nothing. 」
Hauron rebuked me so I averted my eyes.
Such a deep, lively person, yet his impression he left was too weak. I realized once again how dependent the rumors are on the narrator — they select what they wanna say based on their preferences, circumstances and other stuff after all.
As I mused about it, I recalled the time when Retze warned me — ‘If you’re from who-knows-where-kind-of-remote mountain area then it’d be strange that you don’t have any accent, alright?’ I got his point when he put it that way, but I couldn’t help thinking that he’s probably the only one to notice that.
「At any rate, I’m useless, got it? 」
「No, we beg you, please drag Jean — and us back on track from this chaotic mess. 」
When Retze said he was useless, Dinosso immediately put his hands together and begged him.
「…I’ll do what I can, but don’t expect too much, alright? 」
Retze sighed.
I served Shiva’s soup with sliced bread on the side. There were bits that resembled reddish soybeans and, what’s this? Pig trotters? Plus root crops. The herbs did a great job making the ingredients perfectly tender.
「So tasty. 」
Shiva’s really great at cooking.
「It’s delicious, and it’s easy on the stomach for a morning feast. 」
Retze also praised it.
「Shiva’s skills miraculously leveled up — oh, by the way, Noth introduced him to me as 『a reassuring supporter』so I wonder, what’s your relationship? 」
Hauron tilted his head as he stared at me.
His eyed Retze from head to toe for a while, probably gauging if he has spirits or not?
He also said ‘miraculous’, so how was Shiva’s skill before?
「It’s fortunate that I have some connections, but I’m just a humble adventurer who recently climbed to Silver rank. I mainly work as a guide or support in parties, and I can only hunt small game when solo. 」
Retze shrugged.
「He’s my teacher for adventures. 」
I immediately added.
「Hey, I just taught you a bit on how to navigate forests, so that’s totally misleading… 」
Retze covered his face with a palm.
「Hoho, among us, only Retze-sama is qualified to be Jean-sama’s teacher. 」
Butler chuckled.
「So, I wanna confirm this first, just how much did he open up, huh? 」
Retze adjusted his mood and asked.
Dinosso and Butler turned to me as if asking me for permission to answer him, so I nodded.
「He’s an Otherworlder, dragged here along the Heroes, and a powerful light spirit with healing powers clings to him. His magic is more like spirits willingly listening to his favors, he can also move other people’s spirits at will. He possesses never-before-seen ingredients, and for the finishing blow, he can also 【Teleport】from one place to another in a blink of an eye. 」
Just when I thought Dinosso faced Retze again, he started narrating all that stuff in a flat voice a beat later.
What’s with that ‘final blow’, huh?
「Retze-sama, you seem to be aware that despite Jean-sama returning home to this house in Canum, there is no sign of him spending the night here? 」
「Well, yeah. 」
Retze nodded to Butler.
「 【Teleport】isn’t a commonly heard word, but you don’t seem surprised? 」
Hauron seemed a bit dissatisfied.
「That’s because he already took me for a spin in the forest without warning me. 」
That time was thanks for helping out in the construction of the sanctuary house.
Thanks to him, the interior was finished, and we even planted the roses I got from Charles. The furniture isn’t complete yet so it’s still a bit dreary, but I’ll invite you again once it’s done.
「So you’ve experienced it!? 」
Dinosso’s jaw fell as he gawked at Retze.
