Chapter 480: Confirmation
「Alright, let’s get it on. Wonder if I can use it? 」
After Retze was done with his meal, he took a magic circle.
「Yeah, you can. Here, just press this part. 」
I adjusted it so he can use it.
「Like this? 」
I urged him to press the embossed circle on the edge of the magic circle.
「Hey, don’t tell me this bulging thing is a manastone? It’s so expensive and yet… 」
「It’s fine, it’s just a tiny one so it’s not expensive. 」
I added another thin layer of parchment on top of the thicker parchment used for the original magic circle. There’s another magic circle that absorbs mana from manastone along with a circuit-like diagram that serves as a pathway for activating the main magic circle so we can get the effect that we want. I guess the whole thing, including the diagram, can be considered the entire magic circle.
There’s a small manastone sandwiched between the two layers of parchment, and it’s gonna stick to the energy-absorbing magic circle when pressed.
「That’s pretty crafty of you.. 」
Hauron muttered while examining the upgraded magic circle from every angle.
「Alright, me too. 」
Dean reached out for the ordinary magic circle.
「Welcome to the world of Spirits you can See! 」

「He’s really super cool, huh. 」
「So this is the legendary Wolf King Valmour’s Flaming Dragon!! 」
Both of them looked at Dinosso’s dragon and were totally transfixed at the sight.
Dean’s eyes were sparking with amazement. He must be over the moon, feeling like he’s in a dream, huh. Ah, but he’s gonna get hit with reality pretty soon.
「Yup, I was also deeply moved! 」
「Ahhhh!? 」
Dean turned to look at Chris, and immediately froze.
「? 」
Retze, drawn by the noise, also turned. He also froze.
「That’s right, not everything that are seen clearly can be good…. 」
Hauron’s lips turned up into a smirk.
「Yeah. Oh well, it’s kinda cute. 」
Retze’s eyes uncharacteristically darted around.
「… Fabric? 」
His gaze happened to land on Hauron’s spirit.
「Looks like Ittanmomen, right? 」
「Ittan…what? 」
I accidentally slipped, prompting Hauron to look at me suspiciously.
「Oh, back where I came from, there’s this specter — monster, a cloth monster that looks like that. 」
「Hmmm? 」
Hauron didn’t seem convinced.
「So Mister Dinosso’s spirit is just as I imagined. So Grand Sage-sama has four, rumors said there’s only three. 」
Retze commented.
「I have many secrets, you know. One of them got exposed today. 」
Hauron listlessly winked.
Dean and the others nodded.
「…. 」
So it’s said to be three spirits?
「And we also have a guy whose secrets aren’t so secret. 」
They all glanced at me.
「So I have a lizard spirit and a girl spirit, huh. They’re pretty small compared to the legendary guys, but still there’s two of them!! 」
Dean gleefully chortled.
「Legendary, huh… 」
Retze glanced at Butler, who smiled and did a slight bow in response.
Retze shrugged and didn’t push it. Butler also have his own spirit, one that looked like an upside-down turnip, but she didn’t show up, probably because I almost turn it into pickles in brine.
Now that I think about it, she must be the type of spirit who hides from humans? And since I grabbed her, she’s become so guarded that she won’t even approach me. She likes hiding in the shadows of the walls and above the roof, basically trying to hide physically from me — though ‘physical’ is kinda weird for a spirit.
It’s just my guess, but from the spirits’ point of view, buildings and other physical objects must be see- through. Just like how I wouldn’t hide behind a translucent spirit, I don’t think they’d hide in the objects either.
Maybe Butler instructed her to conceal herself. It’s also possible that he simply taught her how to hide.
One of Hauron’s spirits is probably the kind that can also conceal itself. Maybe that’s the reason why folks thought he only has three?
「Uh, why is my lizard licking my armpits, like non-stop. What’s up with that? 」
Dean frowned.
「Fetish? Oh, and spirits can only taste what they’re obsessed with, apparently… 」
I awkwardly averted my eyes mid-sentence.
The other five guys all gave Dean the same incredulous look, as if saying ‘what the heck’.
Fire lizards usually like soot on frying pans or the bottom of pots, but why does Dean’s fire lizard decide to fixate on that particular?
Thank goodness it can’t talk. But I can’t help wondering if it’s mentally going, 「Mmm, delicious! 」 or 「The saltiness is divine! 」.
「I think Dean just has a natural talent for attracting odor-fetish spirits. 」
I said, still avoiding eye contact.
「Odor fetish!? 」
Dean froze for a moment, looking at the fire lizard clinging to his side, then he glanced down at the little girl spirit attached to his boot.
The fire lizard, realizing it’s been seen, gave Dean an expression that could almost be interpreted as a smile. It even looked a bit happy. Spirits do like the people they’re attached to, after all.
The stark contrast between the spirits’ cheerful vibes and the humans’ horrified expressions was, uh… pretty intense.
「Oh, Daifuku! 」
A white, fluffy, cat-like spirit brushed against me, his tail raised as he strolled by.
He made his way over to Retze’s lap.
「Oh, that one from the tunnels… He’s settled here, huh? 」
Dinozzo said, watching Daifuku curl up. Naturally, his gaze was fixed on Retze’s lap.
Daifuku shows itself to people when he feels like it, but most of the time, he prefers staying invisible.
「Yeah, he really does look just like one of the daifuku sweets Jean makes. I didn’t think I’d get to see him, so I’m thrilled. 」
Chris said, grinning as he stared at Retze’s lap.
「It’s been quite some time since I last saw him. I recall him being much larger. Can he change his size at will, perhaps? 」
Butler asked, eyes glued to Retze’s lap.
「He looks soft. Is he attached to Retze? 」
Dean asked, his gaze also locked on Retze’s lap.
「So this is the one that’s been showing up now and then. 」
Hauron added, his eyes following suit.
「So this is why you all occasionally stare at my lap or Ash’s legs. 」
Retze said with a deadpan expression.
Wait, he noticed!?
