I was once a hollow saint – chapter 4
(What, Who is…that… no, I… I know… this is a memory of me from a previous life.)
「Yes, I am Else ……, the Great Saintess…..」
Little by little, the pain subsided, and my consciousness became clearer, as if a fog was lifting.
(Oh, I remember everything.)
─ In my previous life, I was Else Reese, a saint of the Reavis Empire.
Before I died, I protected my country, saved countless people, and was known as the most powerful saintess of all time.
(However, I accidentally died.)
It’s the year 342 now by Seawell’s calendar, which means I died 17 years ago.
I believe I was reincarnated as Tiana Everett as soon as I died.
(But even so, how am I, a former Great Saintess, being treated like that?)
It is beyond ironic that I was reborn as an “incompetent holy saint.” I became enraged as I remembered how I was treated in the Kingdom of Fallon.
(….and then suddenly I’m in desperate straits. How unlucky can one get?)
And to be killed just after remembering my previous life is not funny at all.
(But even so, I’m stumped. I got my memory back and all, but I can’t do anything without magical power.)
The man noticed me holding my head in pain and talking to myself out of nowhere, and he looked at me as if I had gone insane.
However, there is now absolutely no chance in hell that I would die without bringing this vile man to the brink of death.
Such thoughts crossed my mind when an odd sensation suddenly swept across my entire body.
It’s as if the magical power in every part of my body was being forcibly sucked out.
(What is this revolting sensation? It’s so sickening.)
「Oh, this is the saint? She’s a pretty fine woman!」
「I know, right? As I thought, killing her would be such a waste.」
The man’s companions called out to him, and I grabbed the chance to close my eyes again during their casual conversation.
And while I focused on tracing the movement of magic energy throughout my entire body, I noticed an open seam in one part of me, separating and weakening the ‘disgusting feeling’.
(I’m not sure, but my gut is telling me that I should purify this.)
I always had an exceptionally good hunch. Whenever I got lost, I always followed my gut and naturally found my way to the exit.
I sharpened the remaining little bit of magic power within me and purified the part that gave me the ‘disgusting feeling’.
My body should have been completely devoid of it, yet at that very instant, it started to fill up quickly with magical power.
「…Hm? Oh? Why?」
Not even I could have anticipated this development. I was so shocked that a muffled voice escaped my mouth
(I don’t know the reason at all, but this is very lucky. If the amount of magic power I’ve had so far is one out of a hundred percent, it should be around fifteen percent now.)
For the time being, this amount should be enough to get me out of this predicament.
I pushed the sword away from my neck and stood up to brush the dust off my body.
「Ah? Hey, what…」
「Shut up.」
I stopped the men in their tracks with one hand while running to Marielle, whose head was bleeding.
Thankfully, it was only a small cut and nothing life-threatening. It seems like some rubble made a small cut to her forehead when her body hit the ground.
「Are you alright?」
「Y-Yes… Lady Tiana, you…」
「I’m sorry, and I’m fine. Thank you for protecting me.」
I gently put my hand over Marielle’s bleeding forehead, casting recovery magic to heal her wound.
(Whoa… So slow…! Past me would’ve cured this in an instant. How inconvenient!)
It took me a while, but I managed to close her wounds. This meager amount of magic power really is inconvenient
While I was thinking so, I noticed that Marielle was staring at me with an expression of disbelief on her face.
(What’s with this reaction? She couldn’t have known about the fact that I couldn’t use magic right…?)
Despite my confusion, I grabbed her hand to help her stand up.
I heard a man yelling from behind my back.
The immobilization magic broke in no time since I had to conserve my magic power, and the men were already on their feet.
「What the hell did you do!? Did you have a magic tool?」
「What do you mean? I just used my magic.」
「Don’t you lie to me! I know that you’re a saint only in name, and you can’t use any magic!」
(Hey! Why are you doing, exposing me out of nowhere!)
However, the fact they had this knowledge meant that these men were appointed by someone from the Fallon Temple.
(…Ah, I see. It all makes sense now.)
No one would learn that I was a saint with no power as long as they killed me on the route to the empire.
They could even blame the empire for failing to protect such a precious saint.
(Who would’ve known that Sylvia would go this far…)
I wonder what happened to her. She wasn’t this kind of person in the past… I thought as I held up my hand.
The meticulous Sylvia would’ve sealed their mouths anyway. It would be impossible to torture any confessions out of these people.
「So be it. You all can disappear now.」
I mixed fire and water into my magic with a smile on my face, sending the guys flying in a powerful wind of heat.
