Chapter 31 – A Villager At The Magic Academy part 4 – first part

Three days later.

Lilith and I are walking along a large highway that stretches to the northwestern part of the continent.

This highway connects the northwestern port town with the interior of the continent, and is used to transport trade goods via sea routes, as well as smoked seafood such as mackerel and salmon.

Therefore, these roads are well-maintained and there are many pedestrians.

There are also post towns and food stalls here and there, so there are no particular inconveniences.

「…Lute? How many more days will it take?」

The companion following me while pinching the hem of my jacket sullenly asked.

「The magic city where the Altena Magic Academy is located is almost at the end of this road.」

「… I’m still against it after all. Just like what the Dragon King said… Lute and I should live in the village forever. I don’t know anything about the Hero of the North, and the catastrophe approaching humanity has nothing to do with me or Lute.」

「I can’t do that.」

According to the Dragon King, it seems that I have made Cordelia spineless.

In the original timeline, Amanta was supposed to be repealed by Cordelia, and at that point, the difference in ability between Amanta and Cordelia was considerable.

Probably, it’s a situation where the two Cordelia combined could have a good match with her.

However, the people around her will continue to treat her as a decisive weapon for mankind in the future, ignoring her circumstances, following the original timeline.

If that happens, it will be highly unlikely that Cordelia would be able to resolve the issue on her own.

「Geez… it’s really… troublesome.」

「…if it’s troublesome, let’s turn back. Right now… let’s just turn back.」

As Lilith’s voice brightened, I turned around to check her expression.

She nodded repeatedly, and her cheeks relaxed.

「…Let’s go home, Lute. Let’s go home. Let’s leave that woman alone. Let’s go home right now. Let’s run home.」

「As I said, I can’t really do that…」

Then, as I turned back to face the front, I noticed something strange.

All the people who were walking along the endless road were starting to avoid the middle of the road and moved to the side.

「Hm? Why are  people moving to the side?」

Lilith gave me a wry smile as if she was astonished.

「… Lute doesn’t know common sense as expected.」

「Well, I basically lived in the countryside after all. And ever since I started living in the Dragon Village, I’ve been going around the Demon World and unexplored polar regions…」

「…It’s the same for me. As far as I can remember, I was a slave, and before I knew it, I was living in the Dragon Village already.」

「Then how did you know common sense?」

「…I am the librarian of the Dragon Library. I have always lived surrounded by books.」

「I used skill: Wisdom to read a lot of books in my past life, though?」

「… A daimyo procession of upper aristocrats is coming from behind. I think their childs will be enrolled in the Magic Academy.」

Just as Lilith had said, a western-style daimyo procession flew into my field of vision.

And people who are passing by stopped walking and started prostrating.

「Okay.」I nodded and stepped aside from the middle of the road.

Then, I kneeled on the ground and prostrated myself.

「…Lute?」

「What’s up?」

Following me, Lilith also prostrated.

「You are surprisingly docile.」

「I don’t want to stand out unnecessarily. It would be  troublesome to stand up against someone in power.」

A procession of feudal lords passes in front of me.

Their destination seems to be the same magic academy as us.

There were several carriages led by attendants, and several men in armor were riding horses around each carriage.

In addition, there are soldiers surrounding the carriages and a troupe of men in plain clothes.

Their total number of people is about fifty to a hundred, huh.

「That’s grandiose.」

I let out a sight when I saw the uselessly gorgeous carriage.

And considering the amount of the servants, the amount of the labor costs must be no joke.

To use taxpayer’s money in such places… I thought of my father and mother that I left behind in the countryside where I was born.

They work hard from morning till night but it doesn’t make their life better…

And then, one of the carriages stopped in front of me.

「…?」

When I looked up in doubt, a fat middle-aged man with a short beard got out of the carriage.

He is wearing a luxurious costume decorated with jewels.

The man stood before my eyes and said,

「The woman over there… raise your face.」

Lilith raised her face as she was told.

The man’s face turned ugly, he bent down and grabbed Lilith’s chin with his thumb and forefinger.

「Fumu… you are… a runaway slave huh? On top of that, you’re a sex slave aren’t you?」
