Chapter 49
「…Haha… having a child without even getting married… What a sweet sound… Cordelia Allston, three steps ahead.」
With a throbbing headache, I pressed my fingers against my temples.
「You, really…」
Lilith then put on a serious expression.
「…Joking aside.」
「Joking?」
「Yes, joking. You looked like you couldn’t just leave her here. So we’re taking her with us.」
「Well, that’s true, I guess.」
I sighed deeply.
With my palm outstretched towards the girl, I asked,
「Hey, what’s your name?」
「…Liz… Liz Ainsworth.」
With just that, Liz crumbled to the ground, as if she had lost all strength, despite receiving Lilith’s recovery magic.
Back at the inn, the receptionist visibly frowned when she saw me carrying the unconscious, dirty street child on my back.
「Sir?」
「What is it?」
「Sir, you mentioned two guests in separate rooms…」
「Yes, that’s right.」
「Then, it will be an additional charge for the other person…」
She looked at the girl on my back with a disgusted expression.
I signaled to Lilith and left a silver coin on the counter.
「…This should cover the additional charge.」
The receptionist let out a slight sigh.
「The state of that girl is quite out of the ordinary… it might disturb other guests.」
I nodded in understanding.
「Can we rent the bathhouse? I’ll have my friend clean up this kid. Oh, and, of course, I’ll pay for both of them.」
The receptionist and the manager exchanged glances.
「Given the extent of this child, using the bath might disturb other guests.」
As I started to find it as a hassle, Lilith reached into her pocket and placed three large silver coins on the reception table.
To give you an idea, in Japanese yen, it’s roughly around 300,000 yen.
「Can we consider this enough to reserve the bath today?」
「Eh…」
The receptionist was clearly surprised, and I, too, took out my pouch.
Then, I placed a gold coin on the table.
In Japanese yen, you’d have a stack of banknotes worth around 1.3 million yen on the inn’s reception table.
「No complaints with this, right? You can even tell the other guests that due to some issues in the bath area, we’re relocating to the public bath. It would be a huge help.」
Wide-eyed, the receptionist nodded multiple times.
「Also, this child is utterly weakened and is currently asleep. So, let her rest in the room for a few hours without bathing. That will include the room cleaning charges. To ask again, there won’t be any issues, right?」
Once again, the receptionist nodded repeatedly.
Lilith then smirked and whispered to me,
「…Are you really planning to keep things under control to some extent?」
I shrugged and replied,
「Well, isn’t it alright if we make a little fuss?」
「…a little…」
Lilith looked at me with a hint of exasperation and chuckled.
