I’m A Villager, So What? – Chapter 36 – part 3
After walking for about three hours, we arrived at the old school building.
From the outside, it’s a dilapidated building that would fit well with descriptions of haunted houses or vampire mansions.
Perhaps because it’s used every year, the interior was fairly neat. But it is covered in a year’s worth of dust.
Therefore, it was inevitable that our first mission during our camp life was to clean every corner of the school building and dormitory with everyone.
While we were doing that, the sun set, and it was time for dinner.
We were only finally allowed to enter our dorm rooms after we finished dinner.
The rooms were designed for four people, with four desks and two bunk beds on a flooring surface.
Three people were assigned to each room, which meant that we were forced to share rooms with our team members.
「It’s like being in the same boat as the enemy.」
Arthur Markham, the third son of a poor nobleman, shrugged his shoulders.
The reason he said that was because of a small silver-haired boy named Brian Short that is still refusing to speak to me, not even a word.
In fact, he behaved as if I didn’t even exist.
I’m not exactly a saint, I have the capacity to buy a fight that is sold to me.
The reason for Brian’s ignorance is that I am a villager, and therefore, I am not worth talking to, or so he says.
I thought about hitting him once, but according to Lillis, violent behavior within the academy is strictly forbidden, and in this case, if I actually hit him, a severe punishment would be given.
Therefore, inevitably, I will have to confront Brian with words.
Brian was determined to completely ignore me, so I constantly confronted him with words at a rate of once every thirty minutes, so much so that it reminded me of a Showa-era Yankee.
On the other hand, Brian’s ability to ignore me was impressive.
Anyway, with such a cold war happening inside the room, it must have been quite stressful for Arthur Markham.
「… I mean, are you guys children?」
Arthur said while holding his head, before moving to pat my shoulder.
「And Lute, about what Brian said… I think it’s reasonable.」
「What do you mean?」
「I hate to say this, but I also think you will drop out here. After all, your appropriate occupation is a Villager, right? I’d like to praise you for passing the entrance exam.”
However, Arthur continued.
「You must have worked hard to pass the entrance exam, so I respect that. But now that we are enrolled, it’s the same playing field.」
「I see. So you’re also that kind of guy, huh…」
Scratching my head, I picked up the washroom set I had prepared in advance.
「Well, I’m going to take a bath for now.」
When I returned from the large public bath, the hallway of the dormitory was overflowing with people.
The reason for this was that there was a piece of paper posted in front of each door.
As they looked at the paper, a commotion or rather… a murmur arose.
I could see Brian and Arthur, but we didn’t speak to each other and just focused our gaze on the paper.
「Whoa… is this for real…?」
The contents of the paper were as follows:
6:00-7:30

In addition, during training, the 「Golgotha handcuffs」 must be worn.
In other words, not only is physical ability enhancement strictly forbidden, but also any use of anything other than pure muscular strength.
「This is… hardcore.」
I couldn’t help but voice my honest impression.
By the way, the wording means that you should only use pure physical strength for everything.
Physical ability enhancement refers to the technique of temporarily enhancing muscle tissue by using MP as a catalyst, and gaining explosive instant power based on the multiple of basic stats.
And, pure muscular strength and strength on the status are different.
For example, even if I receive an instructor’s iron fist, my body has become so sturdy that the instructor would receive damage instead. Or in modern-day Japan, I wouldn’t receive any significant damage without an anti-tank rifle.
Think about how abnormal that is.
I’ll skip explaining the concept of the status system in this world, as it would be very long.
The point is, even without special techniques such as physical ability enhancement, we are naturally strengthened in this world by our stats. And about the Golgotha handcuffs…
「Cursed items…? Are we prisoners? Are they kidding with us?」
Arthur explained it in an easy-to-understand way. That equipment is very useful when imprisoning prisoners or dealing with slaves.
It was a cursed item that will negate any status enhancements, restricting the wearer to their inherent pure physical strength.
Well, in the case of these guys, their status is not that different from normal, so it’s not going to be that dramatic of a shackle.
In my case however, I will be weakened to the point where I can’t really laugh about it.
It wouldn’t be funny if a high-level monster attacked me while I was wearing these shackles.

ーWell, I’ve already learned how to remove these shacks than a second though.
「…But this is really stupid. We came here to learn magic, right? But isn’t most of the time just physical training? Moreover, it won’t even enhance our status and skills that is necessary for close combat…」
It’s exactly as Brian says.
In order to quickly become stronger, rather than training your pure body strength, it is faster to just hunt monsters to raise your level and increase your stats that way.
Alternatively, it would be even more efficient if you learned techniques that are related to strengthening your physical ability.
Even if you did train your body strength… Well, you know the limit.
No matter how hard one train, humans can only run 100 meters in 10 seconds, which is the limit of the human race.
By the way, even if you have a profession for close combat, employing magic is the minimum line to do.
In response to Brian’s words, Arthur expressed his anger.
「The instructors have no intention of training us… None at all! They are just going to harass, bully and drive us to voluntarily drop out!」
「…Yeah. Probably so. It’s hard to believe, but… There is no judging it since we are here.」
「Wasn’t this a place to sort out whether or not you can be a magician? This is just ridiculous!」
But, contrary to others, I smiled.
「Heh… This place is surprisingly decent. Or rather, the instructors are remarkably kind. I didn’t think they cared about us this much.」
「Ah? What are you talking about?」
Fluttering his shoulder-long blonde hair, Arthur glares at me.
「Well, don’t you think that this is not all that bad?」
The short silver-haired man, Brian, opened his mouth as I shrugged my shoulders.
「To think you don’t even know the simple theory of how to become strong. I didn’t think that you were this stupid. Being in the same team as you seems to be pointless and even harmful.」
Surprised by the two, I sighed from the bottom of my heart, before passing through the door of the room.
「Well, it’s about time we go to bed. According to the schedule, tomorrow are going to be early, so… Goodnight.」
