CHAPTER 7: At the End of the Lewd Banquet
「—— Fuuh, haah, fuuhh…… 」
After the Director exited the mortuary in a hurry, the small fries youmas finally stopped spawning for good.
She waited for a while, but there were no more youmas coming, and it didn’t seem like the Director was going to come back in here anytime soon, either.
(Well, I highly doubt that this was the last we are going to hear about that guy, but still…… I better get a move on. I can’t just sit here and wait.)
Staying too long in this room still brimming with the thick miasma of the youmas was not all that great of an idea, after all. Anywhere else would have been better than this place. Letting out a sigh of resignation, Mikoto tried to relax her tense nerves, took a deep breath and sent ‘Raikou’ away for the time being.
While it was true that ‘Raikou’ was a powerful Exorcism Sword, it was a tool that consumed a whole lot of the user’s spiritual energy simply by having it manifested in the physical form. Normally, Mikoto’s sheer amount of spiritual energy would allow her to keep it manifested for a prolonged amount of time, but now that she’s used up almost all of her spiritual energy in order to borrow the Thunder God’s power and save Sui with it, not to even mention fighting those small fry youmas over and over again, she was really spent and on the brink of collapsing.
(I need to save even a little bit of my spiritual energy in case of an emergency. Not to mention that I need to start collecting it again……)
While consciously taking a deep breath and using her Guidance technique to calm herself down, Mikoto, lending a shoulder to the still unsteady Sui, stepped out of the mortuary into the dark corridor.
「Damn, where did that Rinko even go…… Huh!?」
But as soon as Mikoto entered the dark corridor, the color of the floor tiles under her feet started to rapidly change and shift.
When she looked up in surprise, Mikoto came to realize that they were no longer in the middle of a dark corridor, but in the middle of a large, dimly lit room.
It was a communal hospital room with many beds lined up next to its walls. She must have carelessly stepped on the barrier that was newly put up at the entrance of the mortuary, and it once again ended up sending them somewhere else.
(Were those small fry youmas just buying time so that bastard could put up this barrier? And speaking of which…… Just where the hell are we!?)
With that thought in her mind, Mikoto looked around in order to get some bearings about their surroundings. It was a very strange room, indeed.
First of all, the amount of people in it was way too big.
There were only eight beds in this room, but there were twice as many patients in light blue gowns sitting in here. And surprisingly enough all of them seemed to be wide awake, and not even a single person was asleep.
On top of that, the two girls who suddenly appeared at the door to the room should be one hell of a surprise for the inhabitants of the room. But on the contrary, the people who were just staring at them without even blinking did not react to their appearance at all.
On the other hand, if those people suddenly decided to attack them all at once, they would be in a whole lot of trouble. Because all of those men looked like normal civilians, and not a single one of them looked malicious or even suspicious.
「…… Huh!? R-Rinko……!?」
In the middle of the room, in the shadow of five or six other patients, Mikoto could see the figure of a small girl with pink hair.
The man kneeling behind her grabbed her gorgeous wrist and pulled her up with her arms stretched above her head, so that he could roll up her outfit. Rinko’s Gothic Lolita dress was almost entirely rolled up and her breasts were clearly visible even in the dimly lit room. No, not even that. Her white, fresh, soft skin and shapely small breasts, and her pretty pink nipples that colored the tips of her chest, were shining in the darkness.
「Nooo! P-Please, stop it! Don’t do it! Stay away……!!」
Rinko’s crying voice was too weak for Mikoto to actually be able to hear it all that well. She was completely frightened by what had happened to her companion in that small amount of time that she was separated from her and Sui, and at the current moment there was not even a shred of her usual cheeky and bratty mentality left in her attitude.
「W-Wha…… What the hell do you think you’re doing, you!? And you two! Get away from that child, right this instant!!」
Mikoto quickly managed to come back to her senses and shouted at the men while frowning her eyebrows.
The patients who flocked to Rinko looked back at her, as if they hadn’t noticed her at all until just now.
「…… Huh!? What the……!?」
There was no life in the eyes of those men. And the same could be said for everyone else currently present in that room.
Either they were being controlled by someone, or there was some sort of spell that was placed onto them.
「Kyahah!?」
Somebody suddenly shoved her from behind, and Mikoto tumbled further into the room. At the same time, she was stripped of Sui, who was still leaning against her shoulder.
(Rinko is being assaulted!? I need to move! For starters, there……!)
Making a quick judgment on the spot, Mikoto rolled over one of the beds and started chanting in a hurry.
「Manifest yourself, ‘Raikou’!」
Mikoto once again revealed her Exorcism Sword in her hand. She worked hard to collect as much of her lost spiritual energy in that short amount of time that she had between the battles, but if she was not going to be swift and efficient about how she would handle things here, she would end up running out of that small amount of spiritual energy she had in no time.
(I must end this in one fell swoop!)
As soon as Mikoto landed back on her feet, she swung herself into the steady and straight pose, and the moment she was about to take a step towards the enemy who should be standing in the doorway leading out of the room,
「Huh……!? Aaahhh……!?」
A sticky string-like thing suddenly wrapped around her wrist. In no time at all, Mikoto was violently pulled back and her whole body floated in the air as a result of this sudden change of position.
「Kuhh……!? Ahhh……!? W-Wha!? A s-spider……!?」
Mikoto, who was drawn towards the innermost part of the large room in one fell swoop, looked up above her head and gasped once she saw what was there.
It was stuck upside down on the ceiling—— No, it was more accurate to say that half of its body was sticking out of the dimensional gate that was suddenly opened in the middle of the ceiling. A huge youma that looked like a hybrid of a spider and butterfly.
It was only part of the youma that was clearly visible to Mikoto at the moment, but that visible part alone was larger than a huge adult dog.
Now, If you were to include the part of the youma that was hidden behind the dimensional gate, how big would it actually be?
What’s more, that youma had a pseudo-human face at the front of its body, with sharp fangs shining in its gigantic mouth with ripped ears. It had large curved long horns growing from around the back of its head.
「What…… What is this…… Waaah!?」
A sudden chill ran down Mikoto’s spine as she held her breath.
The sheer amount of miasma and evil aura emanating from this thing was unreal.
Even if Mikoto was to summon the power of the Thunder God once again here, she was not sure if it would be more than enough to destroy that thing. She was getting a feeling that she might actually not stand a chance.
「Why, it is Gyuki, I’ll let you know. Don’t young people know about it these days? I swear, this is the problem with the younger generation. It’s a venerable ancient youma that appeared in books such as ‘The Pillow Book,’ ‘Taiheiki,’ and ‘Azuma Kagami,’ amongst other things, but……」
All of a sudden, Mikoto heard the Director’s voice, even though the creep should have been taken out by Rinko earlier. Then, a shadow stood at the entrance to the large room. He was grabbing a hold of Sui with one of his arms and looked pretty much healed up, but the only difference from before was that his other arm looked strange and unnatural.
