Tomonori handed me the notepad with a smile. I accepted it with a blank face and turned my back to the table.

I flipped through the notepad until I found it. Carbon paper. Place it between pages and whatever you wrote on top showed on the bottom.

It made sense now. The clues were all there.

Why did Sera write abogado instead of avocado? Why did Tomonori always take her time? Why was my pen so hard to write with?

All of it pointed to carbon paper. You need pressure to write on it. With my pen being stiff, I naturally pressed down hard. That left a clear imprint on the sheets below.

Tomonori took so much time because she was secretly preparing the carbon paper.
