Before I could think it through, Haruna and Eu slid into the front row. Sera took the second.

“Let’s go.” Lilia smiled sweetly and took my hand.

I climbed in. Too late to back out. The safety bar dropped and locked tight.

More dread than relief washed over me. If I had to describe it, it felt like being strapped into Indiana Jones’s mine cart, or one of Capcom’s doomed helicopters.

Whatever. It’d probably end in three minutes.

We climbed. Higher and higher.

This first climb was the worst part. Couldn’t they do something about the clacking rails?

“I’m so excited!”

I barely had the composure to glance Lilia’s way, but I stole a sideways look.

Her pouch was bulging with that lion plush, Purrinkazan, its mouth hanging open, rattling in sync with the clacking rails.
