All of a sudden, a neck of an enormous white snake shot out from beneath the water’s surface. So it must have been the thing that cushioned Homura’s and Ayato’s fall. Having exhausted all of his strength, Homura just started laughing at how messed up this day was turning out to be. He went through all of those crazy things one after the other only to end up as a snack in some giant snake’s stomach? But just as he made peace with that thought, he heard the voice of the girl that saved him and Ayato from drowning.

「Lady Shirayukihime (TL Note: Shirayukihime means Snow White in English) please, hold thine anger! Those three have just been summoned here…」

She was doing her best to convince the giant snake that it was just an unfortunate misunderstanding. With his mind still a bit hazy from exhaustion, Homura looked up at the savior of his life.

Even though they were still damp from absorbing all that water when she was pulling the ashore, her blue, waist reaching hair still looked like the gentle rays of pale moonlight. She was rather short and had a childish stature, so she couldn’t have been more than 12 years old. How could such a scrawny brat have so much strength in her thin arms was unknown to him, but that question was one of the least important now, at least in comparison to the other one he wanted to ask her, the one related to the single most distinguishing of her features, the one which made Homura sure that this girl was not human.

(…….. What in the world is she?)

On the top of her head, she had a pair of splendid rabbit ears. And looking at her closely enough, Homura could also spot a short tail, exactly the same as – that’s right, you guessed it – a rabbit’s.

A pair of rabbit ears. A tail. And the hair that looked like they were weaved from the moonlight. He had many things he wanted to say about the girl’s unusual figure, but before he even got the chance to do so, he lost consciousness.

The rabbit girl who saved Homura looked at him while tilting her head to the side and scratched it in puzzlement.

「Well… Kuro Usagi (TL Note: Kuro Usagi means Black Rabbit in english) can’t say that I fully understand what is going on here, but if those cat-eared headphones are to be any indication, then those three have to me Izayoi’s friends, right?」

「They look weak, all three of them… But we can’t just leave them alone like that.」

Both of them nodded their heads in agreement. Although the snake still looked like it was furious about what happened, apparently it didn’t intend to eat any of three, or at least not yet. The rabbit girl who called herself Kuro Usagi and the white snake took Homura, Ayato and Suzuka and headed towards the base of the giant tree while casting their gazes towards the clear blue sky.

In the meantime, back at the Hoei Private Academy’s middle school building ruins.

「I swear to God, never in my entire life have I been played like such a damn fiddle before.」

Sitting and chilling on top of the smoldering rubble, Sakamaki Izayoi was feeling frustrated for a good while now. He always thought about himself as a calm and composed individual who would be able to keep his cool no matter the situation he would find himself thrown into, but so far this particular game he’s been participating in was quickly escalating into something that even he – with all the powers and abilities at his disposal – would be powerless to stop if the need for that ever arose… no, putting like that was probably needlessly blowing things out of proportion. Comparing the current game to the ones he was a part of in the past, their scale and threat level were much bigger than what he was dealing with now, but this time the predicament was simply something that went beyond him, because no matter what he does of how many skulls he bashes in with the strikes of his fists, it still won’t be enough to solve the fundamental problem here.

「What are you playing at, Queen? Summoning both Taurus and the Minotaur and getting me to come here just so you could summon Homura and Suzuka to Little Garden… looks like you really don’t want me to go back, whatever your reasons might be, huh?」

The current night sky above him looked so peaceful that the storm which was wrecking havoc on it just a few moments ago almost seemed like a complete lie. Both the golden battle axe-wielding Minotaur and the Taurus-shaped storm cloud were nowhere to be seen anymore. Being the only one left on the ruined battlefield, Izayoi could not help it but to feel like he just been tricked like a child.

(Well, thinking about it won’t get me anywhere. Since this mess has already escalated to such a degree, there should still be a place linked back to it that I could probably use. To start with, maybe I should make my way to that area near the coast of South America where those two beef bowls were rumored to appear first?)

That was the conclusion he arrived at. But just as he was about to leave this place and be on his way, the sounds of a man’s footsteps getting closer prompted him to stay there just a little bit longer.

「Wait, seriously, are you fucking kidding me? So the disappearance of the Bull of Heaven really was your doing, huh? Well, you sure dealt with him in a needlessly flashy way, Sakamaki Izayoi. Can’t you try and think about the amount of work you’re pushing on those who have to deal with cleaning your leftover shit?」

With a lit cigarette in his mouth, Mikado Tokuteru showed him a wry smile. Seeing him, Izayoi was genuinely surprised.

「Well well well, now that’s just precious! No, I mean really, I am so shocked that I almost lack the words to describe it! I was honestly not expecting one of the strongest Gods of War would be coming in person. Is the situation that far gone to shit, Taishakuten?」

「It’s Mikado Tokuteru for you, you damn brat. If we were still in Little Garden I could have let it slide as a joke, but do try to refrain yourself from calling me that while in the outside world. Others might notice, and that would be all sorts of problematic.」

Indra (TL Note: Taishakuen is also known as Indra in Buddhism and Sakra in Sanskrit) scoffed at him with annoyed voice. Izayoi didn’t know what was making him act so vigilant (and to be honest he didn’t care all that much) but whatever it was it must have been serious enough not to make him act purely on his impulses. Izayoi just shrugged his shoulders and continued.

「As I was saying, what’s the current situation? If you’re here, then I guess there was no need for me to go back to the outside world after all, right?」

「No, there was. My role is different from yours. All I can do is to minimalize the collateral damage and fix whatever I can afterwords. Now, about your question, the damage from the typhoon itself is actually not that bad. Compared to that, the spreading virus looks to be a much bigger concern for us.」

「Heeeeeh, so this virus is really that bad of a news?」

「Saying that it is simply bad would be a huge understatement. In this particular case, not only the animals, but also the plants are getting infected, so if this keeps up, the prices of corn and wheat will skyrocket in just a few months of time, and we will be dealing with global-scale famine before we know it. I hope I don’t have to explain how bad would that be for the economy, as well, do I?」

With each and every word Tokuteru spoke, Izayoi’s frown was only growing bigger.

「So it really is not a laughing matter anymore. Will you be alright?」

「No, we will not be alright. Not this time. Normally fixing a mess like that would be a breeze thanks to our divine authorities, but this particular incident is connected to the War of the Sun Authority, and it has been decided that us Divine Spirits cannot use our powers to meddle with it as that would be against the rules. We can still use them to clean up the aftereffects, but the game itself is to be resolved with human powers alone.」

「…….. You’re actually being serious with me, are you?」

Izayoi desperately tried to suppress his laughter. In the face of so many things stacked on top of one another, laughing was the only thing that could be done. Managing to keep himself collected, he stood up and stretched under the night sky.
