South America, Republic of Brazil.

A wind of unexpected humidity was blowing across the top of the sea of trees.

As per the usual, the amazon forest, the largest rainforest on Earth has been engulfed with an inhuman amount of heat. With how dense the foliage in this sea of greenery was, one was bound to think that it could have been not a forest, but rather a natural fortress erected by Mother Nature herself where it was impossible to trespass further into her territory without having to literally cut one’s way forward first.

If you were to lose your way in this natural maze, then finding your way back onto the right path seemed to be a very unlikely prospect, especially with all manner of snakes and other predatory beast running amok, attacking anyone who they deemed as a threat to their territory. To anyone who was an outsider, that place was nothing but a wild, untamed wonderland filled with all manner of strange and dangerous things. Wiping away the sweat that gathered on his forehead, Sakamaki Izayoi called out to the person who was walking beside him, Prithvi Mata.

「Why does the Amazon have to be so fucking hot?!」

「Complaining won’t help make it any cooler.」

「I know, but I just had to get it out of my system. I mean, look at this goddamn thermometer!」

Izayoi shoved the simple thermometer he was holding onto into Pritt’s face. It displayed a temperature that was around 34 degrees Celsius (TL Note: And he considers that to be unbearably hot? What a p*ssy.) and a humidity rate of 82%. On a sidenote, Izayoi’s annoyance was reaching 120% and was estimated to keep growing the longer he would have to stay there. When he looked towards the sky, he saw that the clouds were slowly gathering in the distance right above the rainforest. If it started raining now, he was afraid that his mind would snap with irritation due to being exposed to so many irritating weather conditions at once, especially since he didn’t like to get himself wet at all, even though the events of the last few years showed that he had an obvious tendency for doing exactly that.

「If there was a Hell on Earth, it would have to be right here. I know that you cannot interfere much in the Outer World, but couldn’t you done something to deal with this hellish weather with your power as one of the 『Twelve Devas』, Miss Earth’s Mother Goddess?」

Izayoi asked for her compassion, but Prithvi Mata, The Earth’s Mother Goddess, was not the one who would allow others to simply depend on her powers so easily.

『Twelve Devas』 ─ also called Juuniten for short, were a group of Gods both feared and revered as the strongest members of the Heavenly Army, a formation tasked with defending the Outer World’s peace. This divine group consisted of Gods from Middle East, India and Asia and most of its members were the Gods of War or individuals related t the art of warfare in general, thus painting them as one of the Communities with the highest battle potential in the entire Little Garden, and as far as Izayoi was concerned, more than half of them have currently resided in the Outer World.

Among the 『Twelve Devas』 led by Tokuteru Mikado, 7 of them, including Tokuteru himself have already made an appearance in the Outer World, to be exact:

God of War, Indra (Taishakuten).

Earth’s Mother Goddess, Prithvi Mata (Jiten)

God of the Sun, Surya (Nitten)

God of Creation, Brahma (Bonten)

God of the Far East, Izanagi (Izanaten)

Iron-fan Princess, Rakshasa (Rasetsuten)

Guardian God of Wealth, Vaisravana (Bishamonten)

However, due to the vast amounts of power they all possessed, it was technically not possible, or recommended, for all 12 of them to be in the Outer World at once, because even if they nearly extinguished all of their divine power, that would still be too much for the world to handle, since the maximum number of active Gods the Outer World could handle was 3, and even that was after stretching the rules to the maximum. Once that number was exceeded, then all sorts of disasters could occur, since just by existing the Gods could alter the very essence of the world they resided in. Seas would be turned upside down with tsunamis, the ground would be split open and the skies would be lit ablaze. That is why a certain system was established in order to prevent that from happening. According to its rules, whenever a God wished to interfere with the Outer World, they were obliged to do so through an organization they shared their spiritual power with, or use their own Avatar. And yet, despite all of those carefully selected rules, Prithvi Mata, the Earth’s Mother Goddess ended up manifesting in her true form instead.

Even among all the other Goddesses of the Earth, Prithvi Mata was somewhat special as a Goddess who entrusted the agricultural development to humanity, resulting in her spiritual power being a cut above the rest. Since the achievement of humanity’s explosive growth was attributed to her, she received a very unique authority over them as a result. In theory no Goddess of the Earth was greater than her since her involvement in aiding humanity with its advancement was truly second to none. That is who Prithvi Mata, Earth’s Mother Goddess, was.

However, even though Izayoi hoped to see this Goddess among the Goddesses perform some truly God-level miracles to help the in their current situation, she just smiled gently and shook her head.

「I hope I don’t have to remind you, but since we are no longer in Little Garden, then we shouldn’t apply its standards to the Outer World. Eve the slightest change in weather could be critical to Earth and cause irrevocable damage to it. And besides, if the temperature make this place like hell for you, then Tokyo should be no different, or even worse than here depending on the season, correct?」

「Is it no different, really?」

「Of course it is not. Heat bouncing right back from the concrete ground, natural water temperatures being higher than that of the human skin, spoiled air conditioning which is useless even if it is set to its highest output, that is what Tokyo has in store for its people. And the worst part about it is that it is a sin which humanity has brought down on itself, and now has no choice but to live with it, but continuing on that path will inevitably bring it to the end of all life, so even though I am a Goddess, I sometimes catch myself thinking is there any reason to try and achieve nirvana in a world such as this?」

Squinting her eyes a bit, Pritt looked into the distance. She had to admit that after experiencing how convenient it was, it would be hard for humans to return to the life without things such as air conditioning, simply because they grew accustomed to how helpful those tools were to them. Even if she herself was somewhat resistant to heat and high temperatures, right now Pritt wanted nothing more than to return to her air-conditioned apartment and take a shower.

「Putting that matter aside, we should be reaching our destination soon, so let’s inspect what we have to as fast as possible so we can go back to Japan. Is that plan of action okay with you?」

「I have no problems with it. Moreover, it has my full support. But really, they are conducting the research on the nanomachines this deep inside of the forest?」

「If what Saigo Homura said was true then that should indeed be the case, but truth to be told, I am having doubts about that myself.」

While wearing the expressions of doubt on their faces, the two of them looked at the weather detector in their possession.

There was a reason why the two of them had come from Japan all the way to the Republic of Brazil in South America, and it was related to the job they currently undertook, which was to investigate the place that has been confirmed to be the one where the viral outbreak of 『The Bull of Heaven』 started: the coastal city of Rio de Janeiro. It was the world’s largest megacity with a population of over 6 million people that was known to be one of the most famous tourist destinations in South America. Fortunately for the city and its inhabitants, the damage that was caused by the typhoon itself was not too severe, but as for the exact damage caused by the virus that 『The Bull of Heaven』 released, it was still unclear, so after finishing their damage investigation in France, the investigation team dispatched by Everything Company was sent here, to the country of Amazon, the largest rainforest in the entire world to investigate the city where the virus supposedly originated.
