When they first came to Little Garden a few months ago, Kuro Usagi explained everything they needed to know about the place, including the talk about the Communities and how they operated, but neither of them ever even considered making a Community of their own, because they never planned to be staying here permanently, which would make having to govern their own little organization pointless and not cost-efficient in the long run.
Asterios picked up a pen and a free piece of paper from the table, looking as if he was getting ready to start jotting down potential name ideas.
「It is understandable that it might have seem like a hindrance to you before, but establishing your own Community and giving it an official name can give you quite a large amount of benefits, not only in Little Garden, but also outside of it in the Outer World. If the thing that you are researching now ends up getting universally approved and bringing you fame on international level, you might end up etched into the history of Japan as a modern-day hero, and that in turn might open the possibility of you getting worshipped by future generations and being reincarnated as a Spirit.」
Japan has a long history of worshiping the familial ancestors, known under the general name of Ancestral Worship. This practice can be seen around the entire world in varying degrees, but in Japan it reached such a level that when one’s ancestor, who should by all means be remain dead under any normal circumstances, could be elevated to the status of a Spirit and be summoned to Little Garden.
Uesugi Kenshin can be said to be one of such examples. She lived and made a name for herself during the Warring States Period in Japan where she was one of the daimyos who fought under her real name, Nagao Kagetora, where due to her amazing exploits on the battlefield she came to be known as the 『Dragon of Echigo』, and later 『Echigo’s God of War』 and due to the power of Ancestral Worship she was able to materialize herself as a Spirit after death, but since she is said to be the Avatar and an incarnation of Bishamonten, one of the 『Four Heavenly Kings』, then she is probably another matter altogether.
「Live again in another world as an Ancestor Spirit, huh?」
According to Asterios, those were the benefits of establishing your own Community and making a name for yourself in Little Garden and the Outer World. But, as enticing as the prospect of obtaining a chance for what was essentially a second shot at life, Homura was not all that enthusiastic about it. Walking from one end of the room to the other, he combed his hair backwards with his hand in irritation. Living a second life would certainly have its advantages, but on the flipside it would totally go against the way he was living his life up until now.
He devoted his life to being a researcher, and that is how he wanted it to end: also as a researcher. However, even though Asterios said that Homura might get remembered as a national hero of Japan if the Star Particle Bodies get acknowledged across the entire world, it might be possible that the very opposite thing can happen. If the development of Star Particle Bodies goes in the wrong direction or they get used for evil purposes, then his reputation as the one who was the major figure behind the process of their creation will plummet, forever branding him as a villain in the eyes of the public.
He was about to point that pretty obvious fact to everyone, but before the words left his mouth he stopped himself, because a certain thought has just popped into his head.
「Wait a minute. Tell me. . . when creating a Community, could it be possible for me to use somebody else’s name?」
「Hm? Well, yeah? Or at least I do not think there would be any problems with that.」
「I see. In that case. . . how about summoning the person whose name has been used as part of the Community’s 『Name』 as a Spirit?」
Faced with a question about such a complicated and roundabout summoning method, Asterios had to lean against the table to think about it for a bit.
Technically something like that should be possible, but since was not an expert on the subject he could not say that for sure, and since Arjuna himself outright came and said that he is good for nothing but battles and fighting against his opponents head-on, there was no point in even asking him about it, but when he glanced at him he saw that nevertheless he was also listening to what they were talking about with great interest.
Out of all the people gathered around Homura, Suzuka was the only person who seemed to have understood what did he have in mind when he started asking about it, because she opened her eyes widely with a mixture of amazement, surprise and disbelief. . .
「Homura. . . do not tell me you want to. . . 」
「Homura-senpai! Suzuka! So this is where you guys were!」
. . . but her words have been blocked by the voice of Ayato, who suddenly appeared right next to them, with Kasukabe You, the winner of the last Exhibition Gift Game, at her side. She rushed to the table Homura’s group was occupying while pushing through the other people from the crowds while clutching her smartphone in her hand.
「I . . . *Huff* *Wheeze* I was looking for you all over the train. . . I have no idea that we are nearing our destination and the explanation of the rules have already begun. . . so when I finally noticed it I wanted to come here as soon as possible, but all the wagons were really crowded. . . making pushing my way through them quite an ordeal. . . *Inhale* *Exhale* but then I happened to run into Miss Kasukabe, and she was nice enough to help me get here. . . so here I am.」
「I-I see. Getting through that crowd must have been quite an ordeal.」
「Thank you so much for taking care of our cute kouhai!」
「It is fine, you don’t have to lower your heads and be so polite about it. I just had some free time on my hands and was getting bored, so I helped her, that is all there is to it.」
As a Floor Master, Kasukabe You was both a Player and one of the organizers of the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority. Because of that, Homura wondered if there was no need for her to bother herself with something so simple as listening to the explanation of the rules for the following Gift Game.
「So, did something happen, Lady Ayato? Because judging by your condition, you looked like you were in quite a hurry to get to us.」
「Y-Yes, that is right! The truth is, it seems that senpai’s brother, Izayoi, has contacted the Queen, or rather used her influence in order to contact you guys. . . and he is actually waiting on the line here. . .」
「Iza-nii is?!」
「Big Bro Iza did something like that?!」
Homura and Suzuka raised their voices at almost the same time. Izayoi was not their brother per se, but he was living in the same orphanage they did before he mysteriously disappeared five years ago, so even thou they were not related by blood, they still looked up to him and considered him to be a member of their big “family”.
He also seemed to be one of the few true friends that Kasukabe You had, the kind of friend that she could talk to about anything that was on her mind. However, recently he was not getting in touch with her as often as she would have liked, so not that she smelled the chance to do so, she decided that this would be a good moment to try and voice some of her complaints to him.
She tilted her neck with a dissatisfied expression and said while turning towards the phone, which Ayato held in such a way so that everyone could hear what Izayoi had to say:
「Whatever it is you are doing now, it must be awfully entertaining, Izayoi. A little bird has told me that you were hired to do some kinda job for Homura, but I would definitely like to hear about it in more details. Directly from you, if at all possible.」
「Well, as much as I would love to tell you about it to get rid of that sour expression you undoubtedly have on your face right now, I am afraid that it is a top secret story so I cannot share much of its details. For the time being, you will have to be content with the info that I am fighting against an evil organization.」
