Last Embryo Volume 4 Chapter 7 Part 2

Because, no matter how good the intentions of those who created those rules were, in the end, all of them ended up broken sooner or later, for a very simple reason: when the battlefield ends up devolving into nothing more but a blood-soaked cesspool of violence, rape and death, little to no one is going to give two shits about upholding the rules of the contracts and worrying about receiving the penalties for breaking those rules.

「Under the pretense of upholding justice, you coerced Arjuna into killing his Arch-nemesis, Karna, in the most dishonorable way possible, making him break one of the established rules of war, which resulted in him losing his title of 「Hero of the Endowed」 and turning him into 「Oathbreaking Hero」. But you know what? You are as much of an Oathbreaker as you made him to be. . . no, come to think of it, you are even worse than him, because whenever there were wars going on in the Indian mythology, you were always in the middle of all the chaos and violence they were bringing in with them, plotting up your evil schemes.」

「You are right, that is how it has always been with me. And yet, even now that I have manifested myself in Little Garden, I am still forced to keep myself busy with watching over so many futile battles. . . . . . . . . to tell you the truth, it is such a tremendous effort that I want to do nothing more than to have a rest and quietly fall into the loving arms of blissful sleep. That is how troubling of a task this really is.」

He shook his head with a smile while saying that.

Izayoi simply glared at Krishna without letting his false pretenses confuse him. Since he admitted that Izayoi was right with his assessment of him, then there could be no doubt that this scheming evil hero is indeed one of the founding members of {Uroboros}. But even if now he is an evil hero, he is still, without a shadow of a doubt a Savior. Putting aside the matter of what kind of circumstances must have turned him from such a noble role to a villainous one, Izayoi recalled every battle against {Uroboros} that he has experienced so far, which made him feel extremely uncomfortable.

「. . . . . . . . . . . . . . Hmpf! Either way, we are not obliged to help {Uroboros} in any way, shape or form, and frankly, I would never do that even if you were groveling on your knees begging for it. You can try to take the Albino girls away from us, but we are going to protect them from you no matter what. So if that was all that you wanted to say, then you can kindly fuck off and close the door behind you on your way back.」

「As much as I would have loved to do that, I am afraid that is no longer an option here. I realize that you have every right to direct your hostility towards us, but this time you are misguiding it, because there has clearly been a misunderstanding on your part. I do not want to do this either. If only it was possible, I would prefer not to hurt those two girls, but what is going on right now is a clear historical irregularity without any kind of precedence, so even if it brings us great pain, someone has to take whatever action necessary to correct it. . . 」

「. . . . . Whatever action necessary to correct it? Just what the hell are you going on about?!」

Out of everyone who were currently in the building, the one to interrupt Krishna’s words by raising his own voice despite trembling all over now was none other than Homura himself.

「I do not give half a fuck about your reasoning!!!」

His face was colored such a shade of deep blue that despite his attempts to sound tough, he looked like he could faint and fall to the ground at literally any moment now, and everyone could see very clearly that this must have been this child’s first time being thrusted into a situation like that and that he was definitely not accustomed to being in close proximity to the deities with overwhelming auras. He shook his fist and pointed his trembling finger towards Krishna, breathing hard as he asked the most important question that was on his mind right now.

「How many years is it going to take?」

「. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .? ? ? How many years is what going to take, boy?」

「Do not play dumb with me! I am asking how many years is it going to take for the catastrophic eruption to occur, and exactly in what country is it going to happen!!!」

With his heart beating like crazy, Homura threw all of those question at Krishna in an attempt to calm himself down. Protecting the Albino girls was still important to him, but as a researcher, Homura needed to have absolute confirmation of whether or not this man in front of him knew when and where the catastrophe was going to struck. Since he was an ordinary human, it would be understandable if his mind was thrown into a state of panic when faced with the vision of a cataclysm beyond mortal comprehension, since for humans, being afraid of what they do not understand is a natural reaction. However, even in this situation, he was still trying to use every ounce of his intellect that he could muster to force his brain to process all of the data that he has been able to latch onto in hopes of coming up with a solution, all the while being painfully aware of the line between that which was possible and that which was impossible.

Erasing the smile from his face, Krishna gazed at Homura with eyes filled with melancholic light.

「. . . . . . . . . I see. So you are the scientist who is currently fighting at the forefront of the battlefield known as Star Particle Bodies research. Now that you know that your research is meant to save the world, then of course it is imperative for you to know the exact deadline for when your work has to be completed in order to avoid the future where humanity faces certain ruin. . . . . . and be prepared to commit a sin in order to make that happen, just like I had to do oh so many times. Very well then, I will tell you what you want to know.」

His voice was a cold one void of any kind of warmth. Whenever Krishna was speaking of historical facts and truths, his voice was changing to the one with a different, almost inorganic atmosphere to it.

「The destruction of humankind. . . is going to happen fifteen years from now. The Aorta of the Star will be torn down, and when that happens, the blue star will transform into a star of death. And you two brothers have been chosen as the ones who would resolve that case.」

They had fifteen more years to prevent mankind form facing certain ruination. . . . . these words made both Homura and Izayoi shocked like never before.
「F-Fifteen years. . . . . . . . . . . . ?!! Are you fucking serious?!!! Do not screw with us, you bastard!!!」

It was perfectly understandable even for someone like Izayoi to be bewildered after hearing such a shocking piece of information. Because no matter how you looked at it, such a deadline will simply be impossible to uphold. The problem that they are facing is the one that started well before the research on Star Particle Bodies began, and suddenly he says that they only have fifteen years to come up with a solution that is going to put a decisive stop to it?!

If they wanted to go through with the plan of building the Environmental Control Tower, a large structure that would be reaching all the way to the earth’s atmosphere in order to spread the Star Particle Bodies equally around the entire world, they would have to deal with a whole lot of small-scale problems first. These problems involved obtaining the stamp of approval from every country in the world, forcing a ceasefire of all local conflicts in the areas where the Towers would be build, dealing with the unreasonable complaints of all the major religions in the world who would undoubtedly have their own 「spiritual」 set of worries with Star Particle Bodie and their implementation.
