Last Embryo Volume 6 Chapter 2 Part 6
And no, that is not a metaphor. Ayato would definitely die from cringe and embarrassement.
「As long as you are fine with the end result, then I do not mind it as well. . . . . . . . . minus the getting embarrassed part. I do not know if You are going to be hit by its second wave later, but if you do, then you have my sympathy.」
「I-I am going to be fine, thank you very much! A-Anyway, let me just tell you this! Until the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority ends, I am going to cooperate with you for as long as it takes, and I will make sure to show you just what I am made of!」
Ayato declared so loudly while raising her clenched fist high into the air as the waves of sweat continued to pour down her back. It is by all means great that she managed to avoid the worst possible scenario in which she and Asuka would become mortal enemies once more, but now that she basically turned herself into her rival in the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority with her words just now, it is way too late to take that back, so she had no choice but to roll with I and sleep in the bed that she made for herself.
Bearing witness to all of that, Uesugi Kenshin simply sighed and shook her head, deciding that it would be best for all of them to avoid delving any further into this matter.
* * *
「On behalf of all of the village’s residents, allow me to welcome you, of brave warriors who agreed to become the protectors of our humble settlement. I am sure that all of you must have waited for quite a long time, but now that you are all here, allow me to officially explain to you the details behind our request to you.」
When Lalah the Assistant Priestess finally spoke, the eyes of everyone gathered in front of the locked gate have turned towards her. It would seem tha their wait was now over, and the Gift Game was going to start with the explanation of its basic rules, so Asuka, Ayato, You and Uesugi also turned towards her, eager to hear what did she had to say.
「Now, before I gathered all of you here, I told you that there was someone with whom I wanted all of you to meet. . . .. and for that I must beg your forgiveness. The person that I wanted you to meet is currently not in the underground Labyrinth, because they have been assaulted by a group of villains the day before yesterday, and that attack made them unable to show up in person, as it was agreed beforehand. Originally, I wanted to ask them to vanquish the monster at the Labyrinth’s lowest level, but. . . .」
She did not even finish speaking, and the entire place became abuzz with noise in an instant. Since this was their first time hearing about this, Asuka and the others were quite shocked, but also intrigued, because it is entirely possible that it might have been one of the Game’s rules from the very beginning, but the events of the past few days have forced the natives of Atlantis to enforce some alterations to it. And so, while all of the Players who were currently grouped together were wondering if they should maybe inquire about this matter further, one of the Players in Particular, the Chinese woman dressed in casual clothes went in front of all the others and asked Lalah about the thing that everyone else was simply dying to know:
「You do not have to apologize to us, but I think that we can all agree that at the very least you owe us an explanation. Therefore I would like you to speak about it in as much details as possible. First and foremost: who was it that you wanted us to meet up with, exactly?」
「Unfortunately, I am afraid that I cannot say anything more about that. He is supposed to be a guest called in by the Organizers of the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority that all of you are participating in, but no further details have been disclosed to me beyond that, and I did not inquire any further about that because I did not want to come out as dishonest and distrustful. So, if you have any questions other than that, go ahead and ask them, and I will try to answer them if doing so is going to be within my capabilities.」
If Lalah is willing to answer the question that the Players might have, then if you formulated your question in the right way, perhaps it might be possible to gain more insight not only about the Game itself, but also about the key matters needed to achieve victory in the first stage. Therefore, some of the Players wanted to begin asking their questions right away while the other were still mulling over what to do, however, the Chinese woman in casual clothes continued talking to Lalah without pause.
「In that case, allow me to start with a relatively simple question: is the person whom we were supposed to meet with still alive, or dead?」
「Of course. That person is alive, although they are currently recuperating from the wounds that they have sustained.」
「And when did the attack in which they were wounded took place, exactly?」
「During the night the day before yesterday, a few hours before the first stage of the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority has officially started.」
「Hmm. . . . . I see. Then whoever the person who was fighting with these villains that you mentioned must really be the one we were supposed to meet with, and on top of that they must be pretty powerful, since the sounds of the battle that they waged could be heard across the entire continent of Atlantis no matter where you were.」
The woman in the casual clothing was thinking to herself out loud with her hand placed on her chin.
If the battle that Lalah was talking about took place during the night the day before yesterday, then it definitely could not have been the battle that Asuka, Izayoi and You waged against Krishna and 「The King of Murderous Species」. And if that was the case, then the only possibility left was that the battle that could be heard from every corner of Atlantis must have been the one between Krishna and Izayoi. It was a real stroke of luck that for such an intense battle, the number of people who got injured as a result of it has been minimal.
「The battle that could have been heard from across the entire continent. . . . . . . . a mysterious person who has been called to Atlantis by the Organizers themselves. . . . . . . . and someone whom you initially wanted to ask to deal with your monsters problem. . . . . ahh~~, I see. I think I managed to connect all of the dots just now.」
All of the Players fell silent and listened to what the Chinese woman was going to say next. When she noticed that everyone was waiting for her to speak as if they were standing on needles she looked like she was troubled by the sudden attention that she got, but she must have ultimately decided to go along with their expectations, because she sighed, combed her black hair back with her fingers and then addressed Lalah loud enough so that everyone present at the scene could hear her.
「Miss Lalah. Am I right to assume the person whom you wanted us to meet with. . . .was supposed to have been Heracles, the strongest of the Demigods in Greek Mythology?」
「「「「「W H A T. . . . ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ? ? ? ? ? ? ?」」」」」
This time, the entire area became even nosier than before, which was perfectly understandable due to the caliber of the person who was involved with this stage of the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority and the fame that surrounded him.
