Last Embryo Volume 6 Chapter 4 Part 11
Kuro Usagi and Suzuka looked at each other. That means that if they assume the worst possible scenario as the default one here, then that leaves them with literally one person who possesses enough authority in the scale of the entire Outer World to be of any use to them. When it comes to Izayoi, he already knew the answer to the question of who exactly this person was going to be, but he did not say anything just yet and waited in anticipation because he wanted to see if Homura had the same person as he did in mind, so when Homura turned to him and said. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
「Are you thinking of who I am thinking, Big Bro Iza?」
. . . . . he knew that his mind was already on the right track.
「Yeah. And besides, no matter how hard you would think about it, there really is only one person that comes to mind, right?」
「W-Who is it? Come on, tell me already! Is this someone who Suzuka knows?!」
「Okay, alright, I am going to tell you already. You do not know this person directly, but you have definitely seen them on TV on more than one occasion, because it is a super well-known celebrity that is so well-known that the ninety percent of the Japanese nation should know them. . . . . Okay, I can see that you are still not catching on to who I am talking about, so allow me to give you a little hint. So, you remember that one page on the internet where you went in search of a Latin Dictionary before we came to Little Garden? So yeah, the one I am thinking of was plastered all over the front page of that site.」
With that hint from Homura, Suzuka placed her hand on her chin and thought about it long and hard.
Ever since a part of the documents from the Secret Archives of the Roman Catholic Church has been made available to the public, Suzuka was pretty enthusiastic to try her hand at the translation of some of them and so she was looking through the Roman Curia’s official web page to see if she could find any good Latin dictionaries or links to said dictionaries there, and at the current moment, the person who was featured on the main page of their official website was. . . .
「. . . . .Huh? . . . . . .Eh? W. . . What? ! ! ! ! ! No! No, no, no, no, no, no, no! Hold your horses and wait just a moment, Bro! There is no way that the person with the highest level of authority in the world that you are thinking about is actually the friggin’ pope! As in, the head honcho of the entire Roman Catholic Church?!
「S A Y W H A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A A. . . . . . . . . . ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !」
Even Kuro Usagi appeared to be so shocked by this revelation that her rabbit ears began to bounce in every possible direction like crazy.
However, the reaction to that news would have probably been the same no matter who else of Homura’s group or the members of the 『No Name』 was here with them. What Homura said was by no means a joke or a metaphor. He really intended to ask the pope of the Roman Catholic Church for help with his project of building Environmental Control Towers around the world for the purpose of saving humanity, and certainly, there was no better person than the pope as long as authority was concerned, because in the Outer World, the only people who could even compare to him in tha regard would have to be the members of the royal families or the imperial dynasties, but they are groups of people, so in that sense, the pope should be the only single individual in the world to have the biggest level of authority over others.
「Congratulations, sis. Your answer is the correct one, although I am afraid that I cannot give you too many points for it due to how many hints it took for you to finally realize it.」
「No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Are you really, really serious about this, Bro?! Up until this point you have been saying one increasingly unreasonable thing after another, but this one simply takes the cake as the most ridiculous of them all! Do you not think that you are taking this joke a bit. . . . . . . no, a lot too far? And I thought that you were being extra serious about this!」
「I am not joking, Suzuka. I am perfectly serious about this. I know why this news could be so shocking to you, but if you think about it realistically, then resolving this crisis without the cooperation of the pope. Also, there is a perfectly valid reason for why I nominated the pope of the Roman Catholic Church for the role of the Earths Highest Authority instead of the world’s most influential royal and imperial families. It was not a decision that I have made out of the blue without thinking it through at first, trust me.」
Homura then took out his Gift Card and proceeded to take the world map out of it, and then he began to scribble all over it with his pen, signing each country along with the number of its population.
「You see, there was this one thing about Little Garden that I was wondering ever since I first heard it. One of the achievements needed for the Divine Spirits to be born is 「to have a certain number of people believe and have faith in its existence, correct?」
「Yes, it is. . . . . . . . . .what of it?」
「But the world’s largest religion as recognized by Little Garden is Christia. . . .」
「Hm? I am sorry, what were you about to say?」
「Ah, sorry, my bad. *Ekhem!*」
Homura cleared his throat and attempted to correct himself.
「I would like to reiterate that the world’s largest religion as recognized by Little Garden is Chr*******ty.」
「. . . . .and? Is there anything wrong about that?」
「No, there is nothing wrong or strange about that. . . . . . . . . . or that is what I would have said if it was not for the fact that this is still leaving the question of what is the standard by which that statistic was measured unanswered. Because if we are seriously talking about 「World’s Largest Religion」, then surely there are religions out there that are far more suitable to be the holders of that title with much larger number of believers instead of Chr*******ty, right?」
「I . . .I guess so?」
The Chr*****n religion that Homura was talking about probably referred to the Christianity of the Roman Catholic Church variety. And although they are often lumped in together in Japan, then the other variety, the Protestant Church is recognized worldwide as a wholly different religious organization than the Roman Catholics with their Roman Curia at the top of them, and there are even some people who recognize Protestantism as not only a different branch of Chr*******ty, but also as a wholly different, all new religion. So if Catholicism and Protestantism were to be counted as not the part of Chr*******ty, but as different religions altogether, then Chr*******ty would obviously not end up being counted as the world’s largest religion by Little Garden at all because the population of those who consider themselves as believers of Chr*******ty would go down accordingly, watered down between the two instead of being lumped together as a single, collective religion.
「So there you have it. And this is also what got me thinking that maybe the rule under which Little Garden recognized Chr*******ty as the world’s largest religion is not because of the number of people that count themselves among its believers, but rather because of the influence that this religion exerts on a global scale?」
