Last Embryo Volume 7 Chapter 1 Part 1

Chapter 1

Drops of water dripping from the ceiling of the limestone cave hit Izayoi’s cheek.

When Izayoi woke up from his sleep thanks to the sound of the dripping water, he realized that his body has become noticeably lighter.

The wounds that he sustained to his internal organs have healed, and his heavy breathing returned to being smooth.

The only part of him that was still sore and felt heavy was his right arm, which was severely worl out as a result of his battle against 「The Youngest Child of Gaia」, but it would be no exaggeration to say that other than that, he was doing surprisingly well.

Izayoi opened his eyes and confirmed that he was currently in a room built in a cave, a fact that he assessed after he fully woke up and looked around.

(….. I do not recognize this place. Is this located in the continent’s underground?)

While shaking around his still-dizzy head, he tried to recall as many of the events that transpired before he lost consciousness as he could.

Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that started occurrying all around Atlantis…. mysterious giants that began emerging from the volcanic rocks that fell onto the ground… and 「The Youngest Child of Gaia」, who possessed tremendous power and was even capable of utilizing『Another Cosmology』….

Even though Izayoi used his own 『Another Cosmology』in order to offset the one used by 「The Youngest Child of Gaia」just in the nick of time, he was more then sure that his friends must have been caught in the blast and scattered around as a result.

After that, the last thing that Izayoi remembered was being picked up by Heracles right after the battle with 「The Youngest Child of Gaia」ended, so the fact that this was the part where his memories were cutting off means that it was Heracles who brought Izayoi to this place.

In that case, at least things didn’t end up with him being stuck in the middle of the enemy territory.

He took a gulp of water that was provided next to his bed and eaten a piece of bread, but it didn’t do anything to alleviate the hunger that he was feeling. If anything, it only made it worse.

(Yeah, I should have expected as much. Who would have guessed that eating hard bread on an empty stomach, is going to make me even more hungry?)

His body, which had been devoting all its energy to recovering from his wounds, began to rapidly operate his internal organs in search of nourishment, only to find out that what he had ingested right now would not be nearly enough for even a sparrow.

To be completely frank, he was hungry right now. Like, super hungry.

However, his pride would not allow him to openly admit that, because he would never forgive himself for essentially becoming the same kind of glutton as Kasukabe You.

But he still felt that he needed to eat nonetheless.

If he is in some kind of residential area, then at the very least there should be a food storage somewhere nearby.

Even if his hands are going to be slipping all over, even if he has to break down the door, if only he finds it, he should be able to fill his stomach without discomfort…. But right when such thoughts began to fill his head….

A large figure entered the room from the other side of the door.

「Oh, are you awake already? I was beginning to get worried, Sakamaki Izayoi.」

「… Heracles. Were you the one who brought me here after all?」

「Yes, indeed. It seems that this place is an underground fortress built by the natives of this continent. I was able to join up with them by chance while I wasgoing through one of the areas where the giants were swarming.」

A large, muscular man with wild flaxen-colored hair. His features are similar to that of a Latino, but his aura is reminiscent of that of a majestic lion. Looking at him now, Izayoi could see the light of reason in his eyes that definitely wasn’t there the last time when he fought against him.

His current figure, the figure that walks calmly and naturally is exactly like the one that would belong to the king of beasts.

Somehow it seems that this was his original appearance.

Izayoi crossed his legs with a satisfied grin.

「This must be the first time where I get to talk to you normally, huh? That said, I definitely would like to have another fight with you. Would that be doable, or is that too luxurious of a wish considering the circumstances?」

「Ahh. If it’s here, then that would probably be fine, even if the battle got pretty intense. After all, the reason why this underground fortress would be able to endure it is because originally it was a city that was prepared in advance for the battle against the giants.」

「So this place is like a cave, but it’s actually more sturdy than that, is that what you want to say…. Sorry, but our fight will have to wait. I think that my fatigue has just about reached its peak.」

「I do not mind that. I have high hopes for your fighting ability. After all, you managed to defeat me once before, so it is no exaggeration to say that your fighting strength is one of the top five in the entirety of the human history.」

Heracles laughed heartly, which made Izayoi somewhat flustered.

「Oi, oi … stop saying such mean-spirited things, Heracles. You know as well as I do that there’s no point in me winning against you when you did not even have your Sun Authorities with you.」

「Mhh, is that so?」

「Yes, that is most definitely so. Do you really think that I don’t know? That I am not aware that for you to unleash your full power you would need up to five Sun Authorities?」

This time, it was Heracles’ turn to be astonished, and he scratched his cheek in embarrassement as if someone just pointed one of his closely kept secrets.

Heracles is the strongest warrior of Greek Mythology, but his fighting prowess is so well known that it earned him the reputation of not only the strongest in Greece, but in the entirety of Europe as well.

As a son of the Chief God Zeus and someone rumored to be his successor at one point, Izayoi has heard that he needs at least or even more than five Sun Authorities in order to draw out his maximum strength.

If this story turned out to be true, then Heracles’ latent ability should be so powerful that he should be able to easily surpass the combined strength of the heroes from the Greek Mythology.

Izayoi has fought his fair share of battles against the enemies that required a Star Authority in order to beat them, but none of the enemies he fought so far required more than five Sun Authorities to beat.

The only exception to that rule would be Shiroyasha, the winner of the last War for the Sun Authority.

Izayoi thought that if he wanted to truly declare that he scored a victory over Heracles, then he should proclaim his triumph only after he had defeated Heracles who had become a Divine Spirit after gaining five or more Sun Authorities.
「… that being said, I’m pretty sure that I got one of them from you after our last fight. I’m planning to apply for a rematch with that one as the price, so you better be prepared for that time.」

「If that is what you truly want, then go right ahead and do it. I will not turn down any challenge coming my way.」

Heracles nodded while showing a majestic attitude.

With his mood improved, Izayoi lifted himself up on the bed and laughed. Now that Heracles has agreed to his challenge for a rematch, his first and biggest priority became breaking trough this precarious situation they were all currently in.

「Well then, first of all, I should have a meal. With how much blood I have lost, I won’t have nearly enough of it to go on a sufficient rampage.」

「Well, you have been sleeping for a long time, so it can’t be helped. It’s almost time for dinner, but for now, you should eat this.」

Heracles took out a red apple from a leather bag he was carrying and threw it towards Izayoi. As expected of a great hero of Greek Mythology , he is a clever beast.

The two then walked out into the hallway.

In the meantime, Izayoi, who has bit into the apple, asked about the situation while chewing it as finely as possible.
