Last Embryo Volume 7 Chapter 4 Part 2
「Uh… I can’t go into detail about that either……..」
「Don’t worry about that. It’ll be known soon anyway.」
Jin sighs after Pest joined in to pick on him.
Finding a good cave to rest in, he pointed to it.
「Okay. I say it’s about as good of a time as any to have dinner. While we eat, let’s talk a little bit to celebrate our reunion.」
Jin Russell then picked up camping supplies from his Gift Card, and the three decided to take a short rest for the time being.
However, Jin and Pest soon regretted making that decision.
「Pest, another serving please!」
「There’s no more food to give, you idiot!!! Melting through three days’ worth of food in one night?! There really must be something seriously wrong with that rotten brain of yours! And you dare call yourself your Community’s leader?!」
And then Pest whacked You upside the head with a ladle with a loud *CLANG!* noise.
For a very brief moment it felt just like old times as the memories bloomed inside You’s head, but then You collected herself and used her newly-developed self-control technique of food over longer periods of time to eventually empty Jin Russel’s food reserves.
Witnessing that, Jin made a bitter face while drinking water from a water bottle since he expected that to happen.
「… As expected of you, You-san. I know that you want to deepen our friendship again, and I am sorry for making it look like we are trying to use starvation tactics against you instead.」
「You cannot possibly be serious, you stupid master!」
「Ehehen!」
「And stop making a face and laughing like you planned it from the very beginning, you idiot!!」
After making a tsukkomi about the unbelievable scene before her, Pest stroke Jin with a ladle on the head as well with a *ZUPAGON!!* , putting three times more strength into this blow than the previous one she dealt to You.
It would seem that these two have been on a rather tough journey these past two years, but they are now at a level where they can joke around and deliver tsukkomis to said jokes without restraints.
If she’s already at such a level, then Pest would probably not lose even to Kuro Usagi in that regard.
Jin smiled wryly while holding down his head, which now had a large pulsating bump on it.
「I’m sorry, Pest. Looks like I got a little more excited than I thought.」
「But to be honest, Pest, you are also at fault here. I mean, your cooking skills have improved tremendously since the last time I tasted your cooking. Thanks to that, I was able to eat a lot of delicious food again.」
When You praised her and her cooking with a big smile, Pest turned away in embarrasement.
「………Fufun. Just like she says, you improved your cooking skills so much. I, on the other hand, have only gotten better at survival cooking.」
「And that is why… one more serving, please!」
「What did I tell you moments ago?! There’s no food anymore!」
*PAKON PAKON!* Pest drove her ladle into You’s head once more. Feeling reluctant about no getting anything more from her to eat, You took out a piece of smoked meat that she kept hidden and bit into it before getting the conversation back on the right track.
「Then I’ll ask you again. Where exactly were you training, Jin?」
「Alright You-san, I will talk about it, but please, promise me that you will keep it a secret. For the past two years, I have been training under the watchful eyes of the two of the six Divine Spirits who have become the guardians of the six great civilizations of mankind.」
You nearly spewed the smoked meat out of her mouth when she heard Jin speak those words.
「The Six Great Civilizations of Mankind? As in, those Six Great Civilizations of Mankind? Mesopotamian Civilization, Egyptian Civilization, Indo Civilization, Chinese Civilization, Andean Civilization, and Mesoamerican Civilization?!!」
「Yes, exactly those are the Six Great Civilizations, the ones that have been the witnesses of the oldest Paradigm Shifts in humanity’s history ever since the prehistoric times, and the ones designated to serve as a cornerstone and the major premise for measuring of the probability of existence for the primitive humans. It will be no exaggeration to say that everything that we, 『Avatara』managed to accomplish as a Community for the past two years has been made possible thanks to the two of the six Divine Beasts serving as the guardians of those civilizations became our Sponsors.」
Jin reported that revelation to You in a rather indifferent and matter-of-factly tone of voice, but if what he was saying was indeed true, then it was definitely not something that should be spoken about so lightly.
The Six Great Civilizations… that is a term that is referring to the civilizations that existed at the very dawn of human civilization as a whole and whose appearance marked the beginning of the era of advanced civilizations.
The formation of the concepts of nations and cities, the explosive growth of mankind, the birth of the concept of letters… aside from those achievements, the era of the Six Great Civilizations was also a time where the system of beliefs in Gods first began.
In the prehistoric age, a time when letters and writing did not even exist, the species that held the biggest influence over mankind were undoubtedly Celestial Spirits and Dragon species, but when the Six Great Civilizations came to be, they brought with them a new type of belief: a belief where regular human beings were starting to be capable of becoming Divine Spirits themselves through the invention of ancestral worship, which deified humanity’s ancestors as genuine Divine Spirits.
And each of the Six Great Civilizations had a guardian assigned to it from among the ranks of the three digit Divine Beasts, without exception.
The exact conditions for becoming a guardian differ greatly from civilization to civilization, but one thing that all of them have in common is the fact that before they became guardians and Divine Beasts, they were all heroes made us such through the process of ancestral worship.
A federation-type Communities formed by multiple Gods and nations who shared common interests… that is the true nature of the organizations known as the Six Great Civilizations of Mankind. And among all six civilizations, the Egyptian civilization was always holding a special place, because due to their strong connection to the sun itself and the belief that the pharaohs who ruled over Egypt were all mortal incarnations of the Sun God on earth, it has been speculated that if Egypt participated in the War for the Sun Authority, it would be one of the strongest candidates for the position of the victor.
Even in the modern era the descendants of the pharaohs have all remained under the ever-watchful supervision, but even if they themselves didn’t make any significant movements worth mentioning, it wouldn’t be all that strange if they chose to send someone to act as an agent on their behalf in the War.
「N-No way, don’t tell me… are the two Divine Beasts that act as Sponsors for Jin and 『Avatara』actually the guardians of the Egyptian Civilization?!」
「No, no, of course it’s not them! The ones who became our Sponsors are someone else entirely!」
Jin hurriedly denied such a possibility after You’s words send him through a panic attack. Most importantly though, You didn’t sense any kind of lie in his voice, and honestly, he didn’t have any reason to lie to her in this current situation. That, and also, if you were to think about it, then it would be pretty strange if the rulers as great and prideful as pharaohs were to appoint someone else to act on their behalf instead of sending their own forces to participate in the War.
When it comes to Egyptian Civilization and its supposed participation in the War, since Egyptian Mythology is based on a really strong faith in the sun itself, then that means that whoever would choose to take part in the War would probably be able to choose as many Players to participate as they would’ve wanted. And it musn’t be forgotten that when it comes to the depths of the human resources available to them, it is also incomparable to that of any other Communities.
Since the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority is such a big and important event, then surely they must have chosen someone suitable for it and sent them to participate.
「So you are being backed by civilizations other than the Egyptian one… but even so, that is still pretty amazing. Getting the guardians of the Six Great Civilizations to back you up as your Sponsors is basically the same as having the support of history itself behind your back, right?」
