Last Embryo Volume 7 Chapter 6 Part 1
Chapter 6
In the middle of the Players who were cutting the way forward into the fortress as the vanguard, Heracles was swung his fist. His blow ignored the giant’s huge bodies and went right past them, heading straight towards the second wall of the fortress, shattering it instantly.
He was blasting the poisonous mist emitted by the serpents with the swings of his fists, and whenever the walking corpses were trying to overwhelm him with their numbers, he was simply shaking them off of himself with a single swing of his arm.
Watching him felt like watching a battle between an elephant and a horde of ants. At this rate, it will only be a matter of time before they will reach the center of the fortress.
(Since these are all Players participating in the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority, their fighting prowess is truly extraordinary, but there are still people among them who hide their true capabilities.)
Before the battle began, some of them were clearly aiming to show off in front of Heracles, but now that the skirmish has begun in earnest, all of the Players have properly concentrated on the enemies that were right in front of them.
They really are a fierce bunch.
However, the eyes of Heracles, who continued to make rapid advancements, were continuously sharp, and his gaze is always fixed on nothing but the enemies that are right in front of him.
There is no way he is ever going to fall against enemies as weak as these ones.
(… Here they come!)
Two shadows jumped toward the Players from the center of the ruins where the heart of the fortress was. One of them swooped directly towards Heracles and assaulted him head-on. It launched a spinning kick in midair, but Heracles caught it without receiving any damage by timely crossing his arms in front of him. However, the destructive power behind that attack was so great that Heracles could clearly hear the sound of his own bones cracking.
Mustering all of his strength to keep up his stance, he did everything he could to withstand the blow.
Vidar, the beautiful warrior from the 『Yggdrasil』Community marveled at his opponent’s tenacity.
「You received my strongest blow with nothing but your own body and survived… it would seem that the rumors about you being the strongest warrior in the entirety of Europe were not exaggerated, Heracles!」
While still in midair, Vidar rotated on his right foot that hit Heracles and spun around, aiming for another shot at him before he hits the ground. However, this time it was different from the previous surprise attack. Now that Heracles was well aware that a powerful attack was going to hit him, there is no way that he’s simply going to stand there and take it.
By grasping Vidar’s right leg, which he assumed was his pivotal one, and adding a half-twist to it, he managed to narrowly avoid his second kick.
If he allowed that attack just now to hit him, then Heracles was sure that his head would have most definitely been blown from his neck.
Heracles smiled at the premonition of death that has just grazed him, spun Vidar in the air around him and attempted to slam him into the ground…
… but Vidar was not having it as well.
Kicking away both of Heracles’s arms that were holding onto his right leg with his left leg, he launched himself into the fortress’s walls using the momentum of being swung around to his advantage, but instead of getting slammed right into it, he flipped like a cat and safely landed on the wall itself.
Heracles glared at him while snapping his neck.
「I see. That was truly a tremendous blow. When I heard that you have trampled the entire Star Eater clan to death, I thought that these rumors have been exaggerated as well, but apparently the power that those legs of yours possess is even greater than what I have heard.」
Heracles smiled fearlessly while wiping the sweat off of his forehead, but against such an enemy he won’t be able to have too much of a leeway.
Heracles has fought many enemies so far, but he has never encountered any humanoid enemy that would surpass him when it came to physical strength.
(That kick of his just now was unbelievable. If I allow another one like that to score a direct hit on me, then even I won’t be able to get away with it unscratched.)
Vidar, half-god and half-giant, and a strongest warrior in the entirety of Northern Europe. He is also the one who is said to have killed the Wolf King Fenrir and inherited the task of leading the next generation of humanity after the end of Ragnarok.
The Wolf King Fenrir, counted as one of the 「Beasts of the End」is still regarded as a mysterious monster in Little Garden even today, holding the power that could easily rival that of a Half Celestial Spirit. After all, in Norse Mythology, he is the one who is said to have devoured the Chief God Odin as well as being one of the main reasons behind the triggering of Ragnarok. Moreover, the children of the Wolf King are said to grow up to become Super Beasts themselves, fated to one day devour both the sun and the moon.
It is pretty much clear that the leader of the Flame Giants, Surtr, I the personification of the volcanic region of Iceland, but the true identity of the Wolf King is still shrouded in mysery in Little Garden, even to this day.
「Vidar, the one who was tasked with humanity’s revival after the Twilight of the Gods. Since you are the one who came to deal with me, I guess that means that Typhon is still unable to move?」
「Well, I wonder about that. I was simply asked by my friend to play the role of a herald, and since there is an obstacle preventing me from doing so in my way, it’s only natural to go and remove it, right?」
「I see. As twisted as it is, I will accept that praise from you.」
Vidar tilted his head to the side slightly. It wasn’t his intention to praise Heracles at all, but he ended up interpreting it as such?
「It just so happens that I have a mission too. I must deliver the young king to the enemy’s leader.」
「A mission of great importance indeed, but will you be able to fulfill it?」
Both of them were exchanging provocations while waiting for an opening that they could exploit, but who would’ve thought that Heracles wasn’t the only one fighting with a sense of mission here?
(My father wanted me to protect Typhon. This is the first mission given to me by father personally for the first time since I was born… so I will definitely see it through to the end!)
Since typhon is still in poor health, Heracles absolutely cannot be allowed anywhere near the throne. Vidar rushed towards him with a lion-like fighting spirit.
He aimed for his neck with a high kick, but all it took for Heracles to avoid it was taking half of a step back. Apparently he must’ve decided that he cannot allow himself to take any more hits like that first one head on anymore. And now that he knows that Vidar is fighting mainly by using kicks, there was no reason for him to be staying within his range at all.
Now that he has succeeded in evading Vidar’s attack and had him in his range due to that miss of his, he put both of his hands together and swung them down with all his might.
Vidar, however, used the momentum of his kick to do a half-turn that led into a back kick. The momentum of the first attack and the back kick that shook Heracles’s entire body had a hidden power to it that was incomparable to the previous one.
Heracles realized that this second attack has to be Vidar’s favorite one, but also that the amount of power that he was putting in the attacks done from the top and from the bottom were different from one another. Heracles roared, aiming to crush both of them regardless.
The blows that the both of them were launching towards one another were shattering the earth and the walls of the fortress around them with the shockwaves that they created.
The giants that were unfortunate enough to find themselves in their path were being blown away without a trace, and the other Players quickly left the scene of their battle after defending themselves from the aftershocks.
Throughout their fight, they were like a torrent of pure power that was bending the space around them. The two, who have been in the center of it all exchanged blow after blow while keeping a close eye on one another.
