Last Embryo Volume 7 Chapter 7 Part 1
CHAPTER 7
Smashing the door to the throne room wide open, the Players managed to reach the deepest part of the enemy territory.
It happened right after they set foot in there.
Izayoi became astonished at the change that occurred in the appearance of the Demon Lord Typhon – the master of this entire giant fortress – who was sitting on the throne emitting an intense aurora that shined with all seven colors of the rainbow.
(This abnormal light… it’s similar to the one emitted by the B.D.A, but still somehow different at the same time…)
While holding onto his mask and emitting the colorful light, Demon Lord Typhon stood up from the throne and stared at the Players before him as if he wanted to threaten them with his glare alone. Asterios flinched a little, but since Lalah and Akasha were following directly behind him, so he had to do everything he can to protect them. And more importantly, since he came here to talk to him as one king to another, he cannot allow himself to do anything to embarrass himself before him.
Taking a step forward, he glared back at Typhon and said:
「Demon Lord Typhon, I am Asterios the Second, son of King Minos of Crete. As the rightful ruler of this land, I have come to speak with you.」
As Asterios came forward, Typhon glared at him again, this time with a look filled with agony.
「Oh? So you have chosen to appear before me knowing full well to whom the body of my current incarnation belongs?」
「Of course. As you said, I am well aware that your Avatar is the miserable victim of my father’s experiments with Star Particle Bodies… my half-sibling, Minotaur, right?」
When Asterios finished that sentence, Demon Lord Typhon looked at him with his eyes filled with wrath.
In the regular, widespread version of the legend monstrous bull Minotaur and prince Asterios were portrayed as a one and the same person, but now that the Star Particle Bodies have been added to the mix, they brought with them yet another unsolved mystery that Izayoi and the others had to focus on.
Since the cause of Asterios’ death was not smallpox, but rather the experiments with Star Particle Bodies that his father, King Minos conducted, then that means that there is a whole hidden side to the legend of Asterios’ final moments.
Typhon, who was grabbing onto his heart as if he was in a lot of pain chuckled and looked at Asterios pitifully. His was a smile that could be used to both ridicule the comedy of what he just said to him, as well as to hide his own anger.
「Yes… that’s right. My incarnation is the one that was born out of your mother’s unfaithfulness! Asterios and the Minotaur are not one and the same person! We are not one person, but despite that we are still the same. You know why is that? Because we have become a single being after the Minotaur ate me along with the flesh of the other test subjects!」
In that instant, Typhon looked at Asterios with more anger in his eyes than ever before.
「Ahhh, that’s right!!! I can still see and smell the blood that my poor Avatar was forced to consume with tears in his eyes!!! A poor victim consumed by King Mino’s hideous plan!!!!」
…. So why.
Typhon rage was directed towards the unfairness of how him, someone who was supposed to be exactly the same kind of victim, had the audacity to now stand tall before him. And so he glared at him with a gaze that could pierce a regular person through.
He heard the entire story, and yet he still took such actions even as he was being driven by the righteous indignation. If that is the case, then there should still be some room left for discussion.
Taking out his double-sided battle axe, Keraunos, Asterios stabbed it into the ground, Asterios glared back at him with the eyes that were saying that he won’t allow himself to be defeated that easily.
「Demon Lord Typhon. I never thought that the actions that my father took were right either, but he was a king. A ruler. A king is someone who makes the final decision when it comes to deciding what is best for his country, and rather than respecting the justice of the entire world, he should always be on the side of the one best for his country.」
If the king chooses to abandon his country, then the country has no choice but to perish. It’s citizens are going to be left with no other choice but to die.
「If the question that you’re asking is whether or not the Minoan civilization should perish… then I think they should have perished. If it was a country that couldn’t continue to exist any longer without amassing many tragedies and their victims, then it should have been allowed to perish if that was its destiny. If it were to go against its fate, then the king should have taken his subjects to find new possibilities for themselves beyond the sea.」
The Minoan civilization, which was able to prosper so much thanks to it being an inherently maritime nation and also because it was a transit point for many civilizations. Thanks to those circumstances, even if the Minoan civilization were to be destroyed, King Minos and his people should be perfectly able to start over from scratch.
「Now that we managed to survive long enough to be summoned to this Little Garden of the Gods, we have no choice but to believe that there must have been some meaning in the actions that my father took, even if it should only matter to those Minoans who are alive right now. So even if it might ultimately be meaningless, I have no choice but to look for a way to atone for my father’s sins. That is exactly why I have come here today: to stop you and find a way to make amends for the mistakes of the past on this Lost Continent of Atlantis.」
And he looked Typhon directly in the eyes.
Without a fight, even a million years would not be enough for them to forgive one another. Asterios came here today so that both of them could use one another as an outlet for their anger. Even demon Lord Typhon, who was lost in his own indignation, must have sensed the determination that drove him to go to such incredible lengths.
He narrowed his eyes as he looked at Asterios and measured him up… and then he began to chuckle gloomily.
「…. Kukuku… just look at what a fool that man’s son has grown up into. It would seem that dying just once was not enough for you to understand the fool extent of your homeland’s stupidity. In that case, I guess the job of demonstrating the real scope of your homeland’s sinfulness falls onto me and my incarnation…. *cough* *cough*…!!!」
He didn’t get to finish properly because he coughed up blood. And it was not a small amount that could be attributed to a simple lung hemorrhage. That amount of coughed-up blood could only be caused by abnormalities occurring in the cardiac muscle.
「Kukuku… I am truly sorry, but it looks like my Avatar’s body approaching its limit now. If this is how the heavens want it to be, then I have no regrets.」
「Typhon…」
「Foolish young king. If it is my heart that you seek, then it is located in the crystal behind the throne. If you really are the Avatar of the Chief God Zeus, then it should be easy for you to crush it with the full might of the lightning that you’re wielding. But I know you won’t be able to do it, because…」
The moment when Demon Lord Typhon’s eyes snapped wide open, an unprecedented tremor began to ravage the entirety of the continent of Atlantis.
「Ugh… you bastard! What are you…?!!!」
「I am well aware of that. Now that the great Star eater Tree has withered, there is nothing else left to support the continent of Atlantis. Oh foolish young king, you’re going to sink to the bottom of the sea together with your entire homeland!」
The first ones to realize that true nature of the incident that was occurring right now were Kasukabe You and her Primordial Dragon, who were still fighting in the sky.
『You. Something bad is happening.』
「Eh?」
『I thought that this was just my imagination at first, but now I am certain of it. This continent, Atlantis… is slowly sinking.』
Surprised by the Primordial Dragon’s words, You turned her gaze towards the edge of the continent.
After confirming that the coastline was indeed sinking, You turned pale and shouted at Jin.
