Last Embryo Volume 8 Chapter 1 Part 2
Not to mention that going back and forth between Little Garden and Outer World solving all those hard cases seems like the exact opposite of what he would normally enjoy.
Just when the conversation was about to be cut off in an awkward moment, they heard Koryuu’s voice coming from afar.
「Hey, group of problem children! Hey!」
「Ah, Koryuu-san.」
「I thought I heard an group of peculiar voices, and it looks like my hunch was correct. What are you up to?」
While the three laughed and greeted Koryuu, he sat down while dropping his shoulders.
「Well… Actually, maybe I’ll go first. I accepted a rather troublesome job at the request of Shiroyasha, and I just wanted to find someone that I could talk to about it.」
「Huh?」
「A troublesome job from Shiroyasha? That probably means that it has something to do with the 2nd War for the Sun’s Authority. Could it actually be something related to the second round?」
means from the operation of the Sovereignty War. Could it be about the second round?「
Izayoi and Asuka’s expressions sharpened, while You tilted her head. Even if it’s going to be just a little bit, if they manage to get their hands on the information about the second round of the War, that’ll give them an advantage over their fellow competitors. However, much to their displeasure, Koryuu simply waved his hand and said:
「I’m sorry, but everything related to the second round is under the strict clause of confidentiality. Besides, the official information is going to be distributed to the Players soon enough, so you can look forward to it.
「Ah, I see.」
「And here we were, wanting to get information early♪」
Izayoi laughed, and Koryuu made a wry smile.
「You’re all as keen as ever, and your desire to know about the second round before others is admirable, but even without me telling you anything, you’ll learn everything soon enough.」
In other words, there’s no need for Koryuu to be telling them anything since the information is going to be given to them by the organizers soon.
That being said, Koryuu then made a motion with his hand that beckoned Izayoi and the others to come over to his side, and once they approached him, he whispered to them while being extremely wary of their surroundings.
「Izayoi-kun. Is it true what they say about you having a dispute with an overseas Chinese?」
「Overseas Chinese? Ahh, you mean the one in Yokohama’s Chinatown?」
「Yeah, exactly that one. If you don’t mind, I’d like you to tell me about that in detail.」
「I can talk about it if you want, since it doesn’t matter to me all that much, but… you do realize that I’ll be talking about 『Twelve Devas』quite a lot, right?」
Koryuu nodded and let them know that it doesn’t bother him.
For Izayoi, who knows a lot about his feud with 『Twelve Devas』, such a request from him must have been like thunderbolt that came down on him out of the blue.
Until now, talking about Buddhism and everything related to it was a taboo subject around Koryuu, and he would’ve gotten all silent and angry at the mere mention of anything even remotely connected to the 『Twelve Devas』.
Izayoi was about to ask what has brought him such a sudden change of mind, but before he could do that, he was interrupted by Asuka, who shouted right in his face:
「Hey, wait a minute, Izayoi-kun! You were working together with 『Twelve Devas』before?!」
「Well, it was just a little bit. It’s not like I was flying around inside and outside of Little Garden just for the hell of it, you know? But even so, I do have to admit that in recent years my network of contacts has expanded quite a bit. But since we’re already at it, then why don’t you ask the guys from 『Twelve Devas』who are currently taking time off their duties to help you out?」
This suggestion surprised both of them.
Speaking of 『Twelve Devas』, it was the most famous Community in Little Garden known for their activities as a working unit of the「Heavenly Army」. Uesugi Kenshin, who was currently working together with the members of the 『No Name』was one of its members, but it is hard to imagine that they would be willing to dispatch several of their people to one Community.
Asuka asked half-sarcastically, half-curiously:
「Izayoi-kun. Could it be that you’ve got yourself indebted to『Twelve Devas』and that’s why you had to work with them?」
「Rather than to 『Twelve Devas』 as a whole, I guess you could say that I owe their president. He helped me out a few times when I was in the Outer World, so I agreed to cooperate with him with their work in exchange for the pocket money to make for a living for myself.」
「What’s that now? That sounds interesting. Did you do something that looked like it would be a lot of fun while leaving the rest of us 『No Names』out to dry?」
You asked while pouting her lips in protest, and Izayoi simply shrugged his shoulders with a wry smile.
「I’m afraid that I don’t have anything as fun as you would expect to hear, but I do have a number of stories that I could share with you. First things first, the story of the squabble with the overseas Chinease that Koryuu wants to hear about.」
「You just talking about your adventures is not enough. I can’t forgive you for not bringing me a lot f tasty snacks as souvenirs from your travels!」
Saying that, You caught onto the waitress and ordered a number of dishes one after another, preparing to listen to the stories about Izayoi’s exploits.
Izayoi turned around and felt irritated, but if he thinks of this as one of the labors that he simply has to put up with, then it might be that much easier for him to pull through it.
After Izayoi leaned on one of his elbows and nibbled on some fish and chips that the waitress delivered to them, he turned towards Koryuu and began to search through his memories for the story that he wanted to hear.
「Alright, so…. you wanted to hear about the overseas Chinease, right? It’s going to be quite a long story, so are you sure you’re alright with it?」
「Yes, definitely. That is why I came to you today after all.」
Izayoi nodded and then started talking about an incident that involved a certain ceramics and a squabble between himself and a overseas Chinease, an incident that happened while he was working for the 『Twelve Devas』.
It all happened in Chinatown, a certain part of Yokohama where the overseas Chinease were gathering together, in the quieter part of Chinatown that contrasted with the hustle and bustle of the main street, on the top floor of a building with a distinctive red gate, where a certain man asked questioningly.
「『Twelve Devas』? Now that’s a funny name for a company. What is it, even?」
「It’s a free agent company that runs a mercenary business. After moving the head office to Japan, it seems that they have only received small jobs, but before, they were actually quite skilled opened for every type of commission and made a lot of money across various countries. Essentially, it should be enough to think about them as another mercenary group.」
Taking off his fur coat, the man picked up a report and looked over its contents, which included the bios of all of the group’s key figures. The man, who had been chasing the letters with his eyes and an expressionless face, was completely different from just now, and he looked up at the sky with his mouth distorted in amusement.
「Haha… now isn’t that a funny little codename. It says right here that the name of the company’s president is Mikado Tokuteru, but did you know that 「Tokuteru」has yet another reading which is 「Taishakuten」?」
「Is that so?」
「Now then, does that mean that the president of this company wants to claim that he is actually the Taishakuten? As in, the King of the Gods from that faraway country?」
Taishakuten, also known under the name Indra, is an ancient King of the Gods widely worshiped in the Proto-Indo-European speaking part of the world.
On the other hand, in the Chinese Mythology he’s known as the Heavenly Emperor, the selector of heaven’s will responsible for choosing the leaders of the world for any given era.
