Last Embryo Volume 8 Chapter 1 Part 9

「Fufu, well, your father was certainly right about that. He has a history of being notoriously bad with women, as well as his behavior, but on the other hand, he is compassionate and easily moved to tears. It’s hard to believe that a God with such human qualities like Indra is known worldwide, huh?」

Even those unfamiliar with myths and folklore have probably heard stories about Indra being a hopeless God.

There is this one legend that says that he tried to seduce the wife of a mink, the one where he interfered with his son’s duel even though he had no right to do so, the one where he was said to have shed tears at the noble sacrifice of a rabbit and many, many more.

「Oh, when you put it like that, I guess it really does make him look like a pretty human God now, does it?」

「I think so too. But there is one thing I can say with absolute certainty.」

Masami Tendo tilted her head in wonder while Ayato put up her index finger and smiled, saying the following in a friendly tone.

「The God Indra really loves humans from the bottom of his heart. Even though he came to be in the distant past, far more distant than we can possibly imagine, he’s been a God who’s been the closest to humans and who has grown together with them. Even now, as a God of Law who protects people and order, he blends into human society and secretly protects our lives… or so it is said.」

The King of the Gods, The Heavenly Emperor, the Hero God. He is widely worshiped in the Proto-Indo-European world and Chinese mainland, and is even said to have saved the world.

Called by many nicknames, Indra can be counted among the greatest Divine Spirits who accompany humans.

「Is he really that amazing of a God?」

「Yes, in his private life he may be a really sloppy God, but… Masami-san. The God whom you desperately begged for help might really be a great God who will help you, you know?」

And now, let us return to where we previously left off, three days later.

A building a little far from Chinatown in Yokohama was swallowed up in a whirlwind of screams.

『Boss, we are under attack! The front door on the first floor has been breached by a sudden assault!』

When one of the henchmen made an emergency call to report the situation to their boss, the underling close to him shouted into the phone’s receiver.

「How many?! How many enemies are there?!」

『We still don’t know the exact number because all the surveillance cameras have been destroyed, but before we lost connection from all of them, we were able to confirm that there were at least three assilants!』

The man close to the boss was startled so violently that his glasses almost slipped off of his nose.

「Just… just three people?!? You fucking morons, how could you allow them to even get close to the building when there’s only three of them?!」

『I’m sorry!!!』

「Oi, oi, don’t you dare panic on me. There’s just three of them and there’s many of you down there, so they’re outnumbered, right? Have they used the elevator to get to the higher floors yet?」

When the boss asked calmly, his subordinates also regain their composure and promptly answered:

『No. Instead of the elevator, they seemed to have opted to use the stairs instead.』

「I thought as much. Whoever these guys are, they are not amateurs who would allow themselves to have their movements limited and blocked by picking such obvious route. In that case, it is highly likely that they will spread out as they continue to climb onto the higher floors. I still have something to do, so I might have to go to the twentieth floor, and if they follow me there, you know what that means, right?」

『R-Right!』

「Good. Then let them climb all the way up to the tenth floor, and once they arrive there, pull down all of the fire shutters and trap them like rats that they are, raining fire on them from above and below.」

『… I got it, boss! I’ll get to it right away!』

The boss laughed ferociously, and his men fully recovered their lost composure and began to move swiftly towards fulfilling the task that they have been given. Glancing at the subordinate who was close to him this entire time, the boss ordered him to go down to the lower floors as well.

「I’m going to stay here. You should go down and take command of the people below.」

「Of course! And once we are done dealing with intruders, what do you want us to do with them?」

「I don’t really care about what happens to them, so feel free to kill them, chop them into tiny pieces and use as food for the fish.」

After all, the sea off the coast of Yokohama is going to accept anything and everything that’s going to be thrown into it without complaining, so an attack of this magnitude is nothing for them to be scared about.

Yes, that is exactly right. If he were to act confused when he heard the news or outright lost his composure, then the confusion would only spread to all of his men, affecting their performance drastically.

The aides were also relieved by seeing that their boss was showing such composure and headed downstairs vigorously. When there was no one else but the boss left in the office, he went and lit up a cigarette. He took a deep breath of smoke and let it out, leaning against the wall by the window.

「…Damn. Talk about a real pain in the ass.」

While lamenting the current situation, which was really annoying for him, he took out a pistol from one of his pockets.

Then he turned around quickly, and the next moment he pulled the trigger and didn’t stop pulling it until he emptied the magazine from all the bullets that were stored within it. The window glass immediately shattered and fell outside of the building, causing all of the tourists in Chinatown unfortunate enough to see it to scream in terror.

After he had exhausted all bullets in his current magazine, the boss immediately rolled behind his office desk and grabbed a spare magazine that he always kept there as a precaution.

However, a bullet shot by a man who go into the office through the broken window bounced off the magazine he has in his hand and landed far away from him.

The man who jumped out of the broken window – Mikado Tokuteru – moved forward without pause, but the boss kicked the office desk and slammed it right into him.

「Ugh…!」

He was surprised that the opponent who came after him was a human being, so he did his best to tone down the strength with which he launched the kick, but even so, the physical strength that kicked up the office desk was clearly not that of a human being.

Tokuteru smashes the office desk and pulled out a training knife from his jacket sleeve with while turning it in his wrist before throwing it forward. The knife that was thrown at the Boss’s shoulder was dodged by him by a hair’s breadth, piercing the reinforced concrete walls and the iron bars behind them.

Yeah, those were clearly not human movements.

Realizing that the opponent is not human, Tokuteru took out his Vajra and held it in his right hand while shooting lightning out of it.

Then, Tokuteru, who had closed the gap between them with a single jump, kicked the boss’s bosom and blew him outside. Unable to endure this, boss was blown away and stabbed into the water supply tank of the building next to them.

「Guh, Nhaa………..」

The boss was holding onto his head while groaning heavily.

With a light gesture, Tokuteru jumped onto the roof of the building next door and asked in a dubious voice.

「Now, I have to say I was really surprised. I didn’t expect to be caught off guard when I intended to make a surprise attack. Who are you? Are you the one who crossed the border from Little Garden like the leader of the Overseas Chinese?」

「…No way. We were born in the Outer World, and at the same time as we were born, we remembered that we were once Dragons. Putting aside the origin of the soul, if you are asking about the origin of the body, you are wrong in your assumption, for I am a resident of the Outer World.」
