Last Embryo Volume 8 Chapter 4 Part 2

One of those rumors said that he got transferred to this school early around the new year after he aced the transfer exam with nothing less of a perfect score, but despite that, he was rarely seen actually showing up at school.

According to the follow-up rumors , the probability of encountering Sakamaki Izayoi on the school grounds was even lower than the probability of happening upon the mythical Tsuchinoko.

You know how pretty much every school has the upperclassmen who tend to dislike the new students who stand out too much? Well, I guess you can say that me and my entourage were no exception to that rule, because it was pretty much the same with me and my senpais, after all.

Thanks to the fact that my seniors, who were honestly annoying and a group of idiots, have all left the school already, I could do whatever I wanted for the rest of the next school year.

But there was no way in hell that I could just let some new student take over all of the lime lights for himself, right?

That’s why I challenged him after school, saying something along the lines of: If you want to go to school safely from now on, shut up and come to the back of the school building after classes are over.

In retrospect, that was probably the beginning of all the disasters in my life

Tsuchinoko? Yukiotoko? Namahage of Akita? The Oni of Mount Oe? No, no, from the point of view of someone who experienced the terror of that bastard in person, such imaginary creatures can be said to be cute.

Because no matter how scary they all are, they were still just stories that couldn’t harm you.

But that bastard Sakamaki Izayoi was different.

The cheeky freshman we summoned gleefully accepted our provocation and kicked through the walls of the school such simplicity as if he was not kicking the concrete walls, but soccer balls at the football field instead.

That one kick of his knocked me flat on my ass, and I shuddered to realize that the power he put behind that kick was still him going easy on us… well, even when I recall it right now, his power from back then still seems quite mysterious to me.

If he was just another ordinary underclassman the we would get angry at him and promptly put him in his place, but I was not stupid enough to pick a fight with a monster that blows through concrete walls with a single half-assed kick.

If there’s anyone out there who doesn’t freak out when they see a kicking technique that gives the illusion that the one using it is wearing dynamite on their feet, by all means bring them in front of me, because I would like to shake their hand.

It certainly didn’t help that as far as height was concerned, I was so tall that everyone else looked like dwarves from where I was standing.
People around me thought of me as someone as tall as a mountain, but even I wasn’t the top of the school in that regard. I also could tell at a glance if someone was a dangerous person with whom you shouldn’t be getting involved at all.

And he was definitely someone whom we should have left alone if we valued our lives.

Since the person himself doesn’t want to actively get involved with us, the best choice is to live separately from each other.

Faction wars between delinquents are an old-fashioned thing that was settled two years ago, and since then, it could be said that things have been more on a quiet side.

I wanted to live a peaceful life until I graduated myself, so I didn’t have time to waste with that kind of dynamite boy.

He was the kind of person who couldn’t help but burn down an entire field once a fire was lit on, because that’s how committed he was to the act.

Even though I was a delinquent, I prouded myself w with my crisis management ability, and as it would later turn out, my intuition about this guy was indeed correct, but at that point in time I still had no way of knowing…

… That the man named Sakamaki Izayoi is much more dangerous than dynamite.

* * *
The Incident in question happened three days later.

When a second-year underclassmen with whom I hanged out quite often, a guy named Sasahara Tatsuya’s whereabouts became unknown, I heard a pretty disturbing rumor directly from one of his classmates.

「Tatsuya? Last I heard from him yesterday, he was saying that there was this one guy that he didn’t like, that new first year freshmen.」

So even though I said quite clearly that it would be better for us to not get ourselves involved with that guy at all, he went after him only three days later?

…….
………. Seriously?

I couldn’t help it but to grab my head involuntarily.

「Well, he’s a moron after all. And yet, even though he goes to his part-time job so often that it causes him trouble with his attendance, he has never lent me any money when I was asking him to do so. Well, no matter, I’m sure he squanders it all on some stupid stuff anyway, because that’s how big of a moron he is. That said, he was always so short on money that whenever he was getting hungry he had no choice but to go after the same kind of idiots like him who were doing well in other schools like some kind of bandit… ah, that’s right. I remember that he said that he was getting good money now because he found himself a good part-time job somehow.」

A Part-time Job?

「That’s right. According to him, it is a simple job where all that he has to do is to carry around a picture of a map and a USB. Supposedly, OB Aikawa-san asked him to do it.」

When I heard him mention the name of OB Aikawa-san, I couldn’t help it but to click my tongue. Aikawa-san was one of my senpais who dropped out of high school before he could properly finish it because of his violent conduct. I heard that right now he turned into a really dangerous person who has ties to a genuine yakuza groups.

If the disappearance of Tatsuya was indeed due to some kind of incident, then it is more than likely that he got involved in some kinda trouble brought upon him by Aikawa-san rather than something caused by that new transfer student.

By the way, do you know exactly what kind of picture Tatsuya had to carry around?

「Ah, yes, I do, since he actually send it to me. Want me to send it to you as well?」

Please do. Also, Tatsuya you imbecile, what were you thinking, distributing such a dangerous shit between your acquaintances?

「Ahaha, he really is a hopeless idiot, huh? It wouldn’t be strange if he just went and died the moment you take your eyes off of him.」

Hopefully that won’t be the case.

But for the time being, before I go hit Aikawa-san, Let’s if I’ll be able to do something about the newly-transferred first year after all.

* * *

However, he truly is someone with whom you don’t want to get involved with at all.

I also don’t like the fact that when it came to that guy, it was really unclear if he was going to come to school or not on any given day.

He really must be rarer creature than a Tsuchinoko after all.

If happening upon him in school was out of the question, then the next best thing to do would be to ambush him in front of his house, but then again, doing that might give him a change to flee back inside and hole up there for god knows how long, and going inside after him was not a preferrable thing to do.

If I do find him, then it would be best to pretend that it was a simple chance meeting.

Alternatively, rumor has it that there is a certain orphanage that this guy visits quite frequently, so that might be the best possible place for an ambush…

「What, you’re here again, asshole?」

When he suddenly called out to me, I shouted and jumped away on reflex.

I honestly didn’t expect that I was going to run into him so quickly! However, now that he called out to me as soon as I sat down near the convenience store that was close to the orphanage he was supposed to be visiting, I was convinced that all of my bad luck must have culminated right then and there.

Sakamaki Izayoi was standing right there before me, with a plastic bag filled to the brim with various products clutched in his hand.
