Last Embryo Volume 8 Chapter 4 Part 3
The bag filled with dozens of curry roux’s that he was carrying was really impressive in its own right.
「I’m sorry, but I don’t have time to deal with you today. I promised to go home on curry day.」
Home?
「The orphanage over there. For me, that place is basically like my family residence… but from the look on your face, I take that you didn’t know that?」
Sakamaki Izayoi looked at me with a questioning gaze. Could it be that somehow… he really thought that I came to this convenience store by chance?
Well, I guess so. But it’s true that I didn’t know he was from an orphanage until my sister told me about it. For some reason, he seems to be working hard.
Since I don’t like beating around the bush with things, I decided to tell him that Tatsuya has disappeared and also tell him about the map that Tatsuya had obtained from his part-time job.
When I showed him the map from the picture that I obtained, his expression completely changed and he peered into it with great interest. Right then, he looked like a cat that has found its prey….
No, on second thought, he wasn’t any close to being cute like that.
Rather than a cat, it would be more accurate to say that he was like a wild beast like a lion or a tiger that found a new toy and wondered how he should break it.
After glaring at the map for about two minutes, Sakamaki Izayoi suddenly raised the corners of his mouth as if he had noticed something.
「Oh, I just remembered. This island is an uninhabited island in the Indian Ocean.」
Indian Ocean?
「It’s hard to tell because the shape has changed, but there’s no doubt about it. I also recognize the nearby solitary island…but that’s strange. If I remember correctly, this uninhabited island should be a solitary island without any resources on it whatsoever. Was it the OB thug who originally gave this photo to your friend?」
No doubt about it. He seem to have recently returned to this area, and there are quite a few of our school’s students involved in dangerous businesses because of him.
That is why I kept telling the people around me not to get close to Aikawa-san in the first place.
「… Hee?」
What? Why’re you making such a face?
「No reason, I was just impressed that you were doing something unexpected of a gang leader you seem to be. During our previous squabble, you also seemed like a king of the castle to me.」
When Sakamaki Izayoi said so, he looked me straight in the eye for the first time. Apparently, until this very moment I wasn’t seen as a person worth talking to in his eyes.
If another first year freshmen told me something like that, I would have hit them right in the face, but if I were to raise my fist against this guy, I would simply be hit back twice as hard, so I decided to ignore his words and move straight to the conclusion.
In short, what do you mean? Do you think it has something to do with drug trafficking?
「No, if it was a map and a USB, it wouldn’t be drugs or guns. It’s probably some kind of information, but the other party isn’t a Japanese yakuza. If it is what I think it is, then it’s not going to be something that a regular student can carry. Maybe the business partner has some kind of trouble and can’t stop right now no matter what…. maybe even that thug named Aikawa has no idea what’s actually inside.」
Do you know where Tatsuya might be? Or are you just guessing?
「It’s not that big of a deal. It’s just going to be a way for me to pass the time. I’ll help you out with your little problem once I put down all this luggage, so if you don’t have a clue as to where you should even start looking, wait for me in the Home’s reception room.」
Saying that, the impertinent first year freshmen beckoned me to follow after him.
He was essentially right. I only had suspicions, and didn’t know where to start looking at all. But if he really knows where Tatsuya is, then why won’t he show it to me right away?
I was somewhat angry at him, but followed after him anyway. And after what happened later, a certain piece of information etched itself into my head forever: that in addition to the monster called Sakamaki Izayoi, there is still one more outrageous monster inhabiting the orphanage called Canaria Family Home.
* * *
Arriving in front of the gate of the Canary Family Home, I desperately tried to control my spine, which started trembling for some inexplicable reason.
The place had standard whitewashed outer wall and the sliding iron gate, and apparently more than 100 boys and girls live in that facility, which was about half the size of a school.
I had heard that it was a facility where boys and girls who had no one who would look after them would end up, so I also tried to do my best and mustered my strongest smile so that I wouldn’t let my emotions show even if a boy or girl invoking an overwhelming sense of pathos appeared before me.
「It’s Iza-nii!! Iza-nii is back!」
「He brought everyone’s thing!」
「Let’s steal the curry roux from him!」
*Dododododododo !!!* The sound of the children that started running in circles around him sounded quite menacingly.
From where I was standing it looked like they were a flock of wild boar piglets that could maul me to death if I got closer, so I jumped back involuntarily.
However, the ferocious little children did not pay attention to me and continued to jump on Sakamaki Izayoi… or the curry roux.
He ignored the runaway children and walked away, but the children did not let go of the supermarket bag, which resulted with a scene of him dragging a bunch of little boys and girls all across the floor.
(Does he really intend to drag all of them along the floor all the time?)
No, wait a minute.
His arms, his back, his head… coupled with the kids clutching onto the convenience store bag, the amount of kids hanging from Sakamaki Izayoi’s body totalled thirty people!
No matter how you look at it, it’s way over the limit of the weight that humans can carry, and it was unfathomable to me how in the world did the convenience store bags didn’t get torn to shreds at this point.
「Hey, what are you doing just dawdling about? The reception room is a little further ahead. I’ll head on there right after I put down my luggage and shake off the kids, so wait for me in there, you hear?」
「EEEH??!! But you promised that you’re going to play with us today, didn’t ya?「
「Yeah! You always play with us whenever it is curry day!「
「Yeah, yeah! Play Otedama with us like you always do! But this time victory is going to be mine!」
「… and who’s that stubble that came with you anyway?!」
*Garururu!!!* The children were giving me a bunch of angry stares.
I hate swinging my fist against little brats like them, but when the number of opponents exceeds 30, it’s a different story entirely.
It’s not like I’m unfamiliar to playing pro-wrestling with my bare hands, but if you’re dealing with 30 bad guys who are armed with things like wrenches and crowbars straight out of the prop box, you’re seriously risking your life, since even I have never faced so many enemies at once before.
Could it be that this guy also teaches these kids how to fight others? Because if that’s the case, then maybe I could give him an earful about it as his senpai at school.
「Ah, that’s right, Iza-nii. Grandpa Ushimatsu’s wife came here today as well.」
「Old man Ushimatsu’s mistress? Which one are we talking about, exactly?」
「No, not mistress, his wife. 『He might have many mistresses, but there can be only one legal wife, and that’s me. It is high time you remembered that properly.』… is what the super-duper beautiful Oneesan said.」
「Huh?」
Izayoi let out an incomprehensible noise.
The name Ushimatsu sounded familiar to me as well.. Certainly, it is the name of a famous wealthy person who was living in the neighborhood.
Apparently, this Canary Family Home was funded by an old man named Ushimatsu, so if they keep the investor’s offficials waiting with the monthly payments, it may negatively affect the future of the entire facility.
