Hey there. I’m Johann, an adventurer.
My old man was an adventurer too. I helped him out with his work sometimes, and that’s how I ended up becoming an adventurer myself. Climbed up to B-rank just like that, partly because I had good comrades and partly because I took on requests fairly seriously.
The Adventurers’ Guild in Glendale is one of the bigger ones, even compared to guilds in other countries. And within it, I am one of the top adventurers.
I’ve already joined what they call a veteran club, and I have a wife and two sons.
I’d like to think I’ve been doing pretty well for myself.
Lately, my main job has been training the rookies. Teaching them the basics of being an adventurer so they can survive out there.
Sure, I still take on requests to hunt monsters, but I don’t go to dangerous places like I used to. Getting older, plus having a family to look after, changes things.
By the way, the guild does pay me to train the rookies. After all, if I train them well, they could become a big earner for the guild in the future.
The pay’s decent, and it’s better than going out hunting monsters.
Easier and safer, too.
That’s why I take on training the rookies and overseeing their promotion exams.
Of course, I don’t slack off just because it’s part of the job.
During training and exams, if a rookie’s in danger, I’ll step in to protect them. And if they mess around, I’ll give them a serious talking to.
Underestimating monsters can get you killed.
Some rookies even give up on becoming adventurers after a stern lecture.
But I think that’s for the best.
Being an adventurer is a life-or-death job.
So, I got a special request from the guild recently to oversee a promotion exam recently.
It’s for the promotion from F-rank to E-rank.
Specifically, they want me to oversee the promotion exam for Haruto and his group, who have been very active in the guild lately.
I know Haruto’s group pretty well.
They’re an unusual bunch of rookies who willingly take on jobs like cleaning the underground tunnels, which most rookies avoid.
Plus, they always take on requests in groups of five parties, totaling nearly twenty people. It’s become a topic of discussion within the guild.
And with a lot of attractive members in their group, I expected trouble to follow them.
It’s common for senior adventurers to approach rookies who are with attractive women.
Normally, I don’t interfere with incidents outside the guild, but I often mediate disputes that happen within.
I thought Haruto’s group would suffer the same treatment.
But surprisingly, they never seemed to attract trouble from other adventurers.
Also, I don’t know why, but even I have never felt like approaching the women in Haruto’s group.
From a distance, I can see they’re attractive, but I lose the urge to approach them when I get closer.
Why is that?
… …Well, I have a wife, so it doesn’t matter to me anyway.
Now, Haruto’s group’s promotion exam is tomorrow.
Normally, the exam would involve catching goblins and seeing if they can defeat them and coordinate with their teammates during battle. But it seems they’ve already defeated a group of goblins.
And they’ve been taking on many requests that other rookies avoid, earning them praise from the guild receptionists.
Requests that rookies avoid usually have lower rewards but higher guild points.
By the way, the guild prefers giving out guild points over paying in gold, as it’s more convenient for adventurers to work for points.
With all that in mind, the guild master personally told me I could make Haruto’s promotion exam an easy one, like defeating slimes.
I thought having slimes for a promotion exam opponent was too easy, but to be honest, I didn’t see the need for them to take the exam in the first place.
The atmosphere they exude seems much stronger than your average seasoned adventurer.
It’s just my gut feeling, though… … I probably can’t beat Haruto. Not even if there were a hundred of me.
Well, just a gut feeling.
Forget I said anything.
So, I decided to come to the mountains near the capital to find some slimes. And there they were, five slimes jiggling as if saying, 『Catch us!』.
Haruto’s group is taking the exam tomorrow, with one slime per party…… Perfect.
They’ve noticed me, but they’re not attacking or running away.
Slimes are monsters you can’t understand, so occasionally, you come across ones like these.
Normally, we’d attack and seal weakened monsters in scrolls to use in promotion exams… …
But for some reason, I decided to try sealing these untouched slimes in scrolls.

Without any resistance, I managed to seal all five slimes in scrolls.
I knew there were monsters you could tame without resistance, but I didn’t know there were ones you could seal in scrolls without any damage.
Unlike tamed monsters where both parties agree, there’s no benefit for monsters being sealed in scrolls.
And these slimes, it almost feels like they willingly entered the scrolls themselves… …
—-Nah, that can’t be it.
Well, let’s just be glad the job’s done quickly.
Time to head back home and see my sons.
I collected the scrolls containing the slimes and headed back home to my waiting family.
