Volume 6 Chapter 120
Luna’s past (2/4)
I was reborn in this world as a seven-year-old girl named Luna-Dillete.
Luna was originally born to a noble family, but when her parents died in an accident, her family fell into ruin and she was sent off to an orphanage in a small town.
I only had memories of her life starting at age six. It saved me from feeling the sadness of losing my parents in this world.
My life in the orphanage was not bad. All the other orphans were good friends with me. They are all my siblings and I love them. I love the nuns as well, they were so kind to me.
The orphanage was full of donated books. I read plenty of them. I could understand the most difficult books a normal seven-year-old would not be able to, thanks to the skills tha goddess gave me.
When I was eight years old, I had read all the books in the orphanage. However, I still wanted to read more, so the nuns negotiated with the town mayor and I was allowed to read the books in the town library.
I was thrilled to be surrounded by the hundreds of books, which I could read.
In my original world, I was studying hard to keep up with my schoolwork, so I did not have time to look at let alone read books that were irrelevent to my lessons, such as illustrated books.
Meaning, I never once read manga. I had to read textbooks several times more than other people just to memorise words and formulas. I had to study hard just to keep up with my classes.
But now that I had been reborn, I had the skill Absolute Memory. The more books I read, the more knowledge I accumulated. So, I went to the library every day and kept on reading.
With my skills I could memorise and understand anything I had seen once. I could just flip through various books and absorb their content, and then go back to the orphanage and the books I had memorised in the corner of my mind while still looking after the little ones.
In just six months, I had read all the books in the town library. But that did not quench my thirst to 『acquire knowledge』.
That is when it happened. I had heard that there was a place where all the knowledge of this world is concentrated.
— Infrus Magic Academy.
It was a school for training magicians in the country of Glendale. I heard that there are more than hundreds of thousands of books there, and furthermore, that the highest research in this world is conducted there.
It was my passion to go there.
But I was just an orphan.
I had no money and no guardian, which are required for commoners to enter the magic academy.
After much personal research, I found out that Ifrus Magic Academy has a scholarship program. A program that accepts those with excellent knowledge and magic aptitude. Those accepted into this program are exempt from entrance and tuition fees, and no requirement of a guardian.
I decided to take a chance on it.
Fortunately, I had already acquired knowledge of magic. The orphanage owned a number of donated worn-out grimoires.
As far as grimoires are concerned, it was better equipped than the town library.
There was no way orphans could read grimoires written in ancient script, only I, with my Language Comprehension skill, recognised the value of the books.
Now that I think about it, I think one of those books was a national treasure. Perhaps because nobody could read it, it was somehow discarded and donated to the orphanage.
So knowledge of magic was not a problem. I had acquired knowledge of all kinds of magic, from the East to the West.
The only challenge was in the use of magic.
My status at the time was—
Status
Name: Luna-Dillette
Race: Human
Blessings: Blessings of the Otherworldly Deity
Job: Supporting Mage (Level 50)
Skills: Absolute Memory, Language Comprehension
It was like this. I had never defeated any monster, but I was already at level 50. And apparently Level 50 is in the category of the strong in this world.
It came to my attention that the gods of this world sometimes bring people from my old world, and they are transferred already at level 150.
This is different for me because I was sent here by the goddess of my original world, so the change to my status was modest.
Nevertheless, with my level 50 status and the knowledge of magic I gained from the grimoires, all that remained was to improve my practical use of magic.
My job is Supporting Mage. I was afraid to use offensive magic too much though, however I thought supporting magic was less scary.
From the day I found out about Ifrus Magic Academy, I started to train in Supporting Mage. Even though I thought I was suited for combat, the Absolute Memory and Language Comprehension skills were more handy than expected.
──***──
Within a few months I had mastered all the magic for a Supporting Mage.
I had also defeated some monsters on my own.
At first I was petrified after defeating them.
I cast as much supporting magic on myself, and from a distance I just shot lower level attack magic at the monster to defeat it.
I used this tactic to defeat a lot of monsters of a much lower level than myself. I heard that it’s easier to level up by defeating monsters in the same level range, but I was too scared to try.
Safety first!
The nuns and the other adults there were of a lower level than me, so I could not ask any of them to accompany me in my training.
So I continued to battle monsters on my own.
By the time I turned ten, I was level 52. I had raised two levels all by myself.
I am awesome!
I congratulated myself.
It was at that time I could take the entrance exam for Infrus Magic Academy.
I could do this, I did not have to worry.
I had worked hard in preparation for this day.
The nuns and my siblings from the orphanage saw me off, as I headed towards the town where the examination was to take place.
