Volume 6 Chapter 141

Haruto and the Four Heroes (5/7)

Two years have passed since I was transported to this world, during which I’ve repeatedly stopped Stampede and saved numerous towns and villages.
At this time, 『I』 was at level 124, having grown enough to annihilate Stampede’s monsters single-handedly with Guardian skills.
However, it wasn’t always the case that I arrived in time to prevent casualties. Threats from monsters had been increasing all over, and many people were losing their lives to these creatures, not just Stampede.
I wanted to save as many people within my reach.
With that in mind, whenever reports of high-level monsters or Stampede incidents reached me, 『I』 would rush to the scene with Tina.
『I』 would step onto the front lines, stopping the monsters. While I held them back, Tina would heal the injured and deal with any creatures that I might have missed and that had infiltrated the town.
And this time, we weren’t the only ones who came to the town of Gareth.
「Hey, all the monsters are wiped out. You’re still doing great, Haruto」
Takato, the hero who was transported from my original world by the Creator God of this world, arrived from outside the town. Behind him were the Holy Knight Daichi, the Sage Kana, and the Holy Maiden Yurie.
「Yeah, just made it in time」
「Still, Haruto, you always manage to impress. Flying around tirelessly, saving people here and there, but is that really worth it?」
Takato was a hero, but he didn’t actively seek to help people. Of course, if he saw someone being attacked by monsters right in front of him, he would help them.
However, when he heard that a horde of monsters was attacking towns and villages in the distance, he wouldn’t rush to the scene. The same went for Daichi, Kana, and the others, just like Takato.
Even though they had taken on roles like hero, holy knight, and holy maiden, events that didn’t happen right in front of them were something they considered not their concern.
「It’s fine. I’m doing what I want to do. Anyway, is・ it・ here?」
「Oh, yeah! There was a pretty strong one, and thanks to that, I leveled up」
Normally, when Stampede occurred, Takato and the others hardly needed to respond unless they were present at the scene. But this time, they had traveled all the way from a country hundreds of kilometers away to reach the town of Gareth.
The reason for that was—
「Still, these demons aren’t really that big of a deal」
Takato toyed with the black horns, probably taken from the demon he had defeated.
Presumably, they were from the demon he had defeated.
「No, that guy’s killing intent was pretty intense, you know?」
「Yeah, yeah. Takato you have the skills to fight them, but the rest of us don’t」
「I-It was scary」
The Stampede that invaded the town of Gareth clearly had abnormally powerful demon forces mixed in. Thus, the likelihood was high that this Stampede was directly commanded by a demon under the Demon King.
Furthermore, Takato’s level had already exceeded 260. While there was a hero’s growth boost, he had fought and defeated so many ordinary monsters that his level wasn’t increasing anymore.
However, some monsters were powerful enough to command S-rank monsters, and defeating them could still boost Takato’s level.
Therefore, Takato and the others had come to this town with the purpose of subduing these monsters.
Honestly, I thought they might already have the power to defeat the Demon King. I kept hoping that they would defeat the Demon King quickly and bring peace to this world—that’s what I had always thought.
However, Takato was capricious. If he wasn’t in the mood, even if monsters attacked the town he was staying in, he wouldn’t fight. Moreover, he particularly disliked being ordered around.
Because of his overwhelming strength, no one could complain to Takato. If Takato didn’t fight, Daichi and the others wouldn’t head to the battlefield either.
So, 『I』 decided to leave Takato with the one demon he showed interest in and deal with the rest of the enemies myself.
Tina agreed with this decision, so recently, the two of us had been traveling the world together, subduing monsters.
Spending all our time together, I gradually found myself falling for Tina. I had thought she was cute since the first time we met, but after two years, she had become even more charming.
Every little gesture Tina made seemed precious to me. However, I, who was hopelessly clumsy, couldn’t bring myself to express my feelings to her.
「Haruto-sama! Are you alright!?」
While lost in thought about Tina, Tina, who had finished healing the members of the vigilante group, arrived.
「I’m fine. Looks like no one died」
「I see, that’s good to hear」
「Hey, Tina-chan, we’re here too! We defeated the demon, you know?」
Takato called out to Tina as if seeking attention.
「A demon…… as expected, the hero is truly remarkable」
「Why do you call me by name, but 『hero』 for him?」
Takato’s reply was slightly cold, irritating 『me』.
Takato seemed to have a thing for Tina, and he would do anything for her if she asked. However, Takato also demanded something in return—he wanted to sleep with Tina and kiss her. So, Tina avoided asking him for favors.
I found that situation delightful.
Takato can vent on 『me』 as much as he wants.
At least Tina cared more for『me』 than Takato—so I thought—thus, I didn’t mind when he directed harsh words at me.
When Tina wasn’t around, Takato would call 『me』 the 『failed hero』. Well, it wasn’t entirely wrong, so I didn’t feel the need to object.
And besides, even if it came to a verbal dispute or a physical fight, activating the Guardian skill, 『I』 wouldn’t be able to defeat Takato, who was over level 260.
「Takato-sama, I apologize. For us in this world, addressing you as ‘hero’ is the most respectful way to do so. There’s no other intention
Tina’s words seemed to have pleased Takato. He was referred to as a hero, but 『I』 wasn’t. By implication, Tina was also saying that 『I』 was a failure—as if interpreting it that way.
Afterward, Takato led Daichi and the others into the town.
「Haruto-sama, did you take offense?」
After Takato’s figure vanished, Tina approached and spoke.
「You don’t have to call me 『hero』?」
「…Yes. If Haruto-sama wishes, I will address you as『hero』from now on」
「I want Tina to call me by my name」
「Is that alright?」
「Yeah. Besides, Tina, you don’t think of me as the 『failed hero』, right?」
「O-Of course not!!」
「Yeah, then it’s no problem. Well then, shall we go grab a meal?」
「Yes. It would be great if there’s a place open somewhere……」
The safety of the town of Gareth had been secured, and people had already begun to return. There were a few eateries that had opened.
Walking alongside Tina, 『I』 looked at the returning light in the city we had saved and felt joy in having protected this town once again.
