Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 2 Chapter 4.4

        The moment Ms. Ibara changed with the slowpoke Tensai, she quickly stepped on the floor tile.

     Along with Mr. Tsurezure and I, we somehow managed to contain the situation.

「Good, it is done. 」

     Once again, the beeping and the glowing stopped. However, this only lasted a few seconds.

     Suddenly, the beeping started again.

「Where is it! 」

     I looked around, but I did not know where the beeping was coming from.

「It’s on the ceiling! 」

     At president Yuiga’s shout, we three looked up.

     As he said, one of the ceiling tiles was glowing.

     However, ……

「Isn’t it too high! 」

     The ceiling of the building is high, and my guess was it was about four or five meters above us.

「Yama, make a foothold! 」

     I immediately understood Tsurezure’s intentions, and held my hands together and made a foothold.

     Tsurezure ran towards me and stepped on my hands. The moment he did, I lifted Mr. Tsurezure with all my might.

     Using the momentum from his running jump and my help, Mr. Tsurezure rose up into the air and twisted his body in the air. He kicked the glowing ceiling tile.

     At the same time, the beeping stopped.

「Good, done. 」

     Then……

     Beep, beep beep, beep beep beep, be ……

     The walls and the floor started glowing along with numerous beeping sounds.

「Damn it! 」

     We three started running again. President Yuiga and the others pressed the tiles within their reach and helped.

     I wonder if that was several seconds or several minutes. However, the innumerable beeping and glowing tiles gradually slowed down, and finally stopped.

「Good. 」

     While we all heavily breathed, we remained cautious.

     While holding onto the wall tiles, president Yuiga, Tensai, and D’arc cautiously looked around the room. Meanwhile, Mr. Tsurezure, Ms. Ibara, and I cautiously monitored the walls in the middle of the room with our backs against each other.

     Beep beep……

     Then, we heard another beeping sound.

     Yet……

「What? Which one is glowing? 」

「Ugh, none of them are glowing! 」

     Although we three in the center looked around, there was no tile on the wall, floor, or ceiling that was glowing. The three on the wall also seemed panicking and looked around. They did not seem to have found the place.

「Hey, does that mean that we will only have the beeping to go by now? 」

     Ms. Ibara sounded worried while she said so. I felt like my heart jumped.

「What, does that mean that the difficulty is even higher now. The tiles will not glow anymore? 」

     I panicked, while Tsurezure made a difficult expression.

「Possibily. Everyone, keep quiet! 」

     At Tsurezure’s order, everyone shut up and focused on listening to the sound.

     However, the beeping sound seemed to echo throughout the room. We did not know where it came from.

「Hey, where is it, really! 」

     Ms. Ibara could not help but burst out saying this.

     I could understand her panic. So much time passed. It seemed that we only had a few seconds before a tile came out.

     Yet, none of us could find the tile.

「No, no, no…… 」

     Everybody panicked.

     ……No, except one calm guy.

     There was one great detective that ignored the time and circumstances and could focus on her own world.

「……At this point, it stopped glowing. Really? Perhaps it is actually glowing. Then why can’t anybody find it? This is a square room with nothing in it. Yet, would there be a place that no one can spot? 」

     She look around and pondered, while continuing to mutter to herself. 

「Can’t see, can’t see…… there is no obstruction? No, there is one. Of course, there is. On top of that, it is hidden from everybody! ……You three, it is below the treasure chest! 」

     At Tensai’s shout, we all turned around. We looked at the treasure chest with its lid open in the middle of the room and looked inside.

「「「There it is! 」」」

     The bottom of the treasure chest seemed like it was about to burst with bugs. We three pressed the bottom at the same time.

 

     There was a big mechanical sound of something dropping.

 

     With this loud sound, the beeping and all the mechanical whirring around the building stopped.

     Then, we heard the door open.

     After a moment of silence, we all looked at each other.

     President Yuiga softly let go of the wall tile he had been pressing on.

     The tile did not come off, and was instead locked into place.

 

「「「「「「Great!!!! 」」」」」」

 

     Everybody pumped their fist up and shouted in jubilation that the ((Ruin))’s trap had finally been deactivated.

「Wow, good job, shorty. 」

「Hey Ms. Ibara! Don’t call me a shorty! Call me a tall-in-training! 」

     Ms. Ibara seemed overjoyed while she hugged Tensai.

     Tsurezure also reached out his hand at D’arc who was lying down on the floor.

「Really, you guys helped us a lot. 」

     President Yuiga seemed to have a relieved expression and smiled while approaching us.

     Well, that was fine but……

「Is that all? 」

     At my glare, president Yuiga forced a smile, and bowed.

「Sorry. 」

     Then he glanced at the two others as well.

「Thank you, lowerclassmen. 」

「Hmph, I shall thank you guys for once. 」

     For some reason, they were very condescending. Do they really feel sorry about their mistake?

     Thus, I emphasized again.

「I won’t have you betraying us again, alright? 」

「I can’t guarantee that. 」

     Can you please say that with that smile, president Yuiga?

「That aside, Mr. Yuiga. What was the Nanana Collection you found in the treasure chest? 」

     Tensai approached us with a tired expression. President Yuiga nodded.

「It’s this. 」

     Saying this, president Yuiga took something out from his shoulder bag.

「……Mr. Yuiga. To me it only looks like a plush toy. 」

     Tensai made an expression conveying mixed feelings. As she says, president Yuiga held a cat plush toy in his hand.

「But this plush toy was in the treasure chest. 」

「Mr. Yuiga…… 」

「Really, believe me! Although it looks like a plush toy! There surely must be some sort of special power! 」

     President Yuiga desperately tried to prove himself. From his eyes, it did not seem that he was lying.

「Let’s believe him for now. Anyways, once we show this to Nanana, we should know whether it is the Nanana Collection or just a plush toy. 」

     I trusted him, and Tensai said, 「Alright then. 」, and stopped suspecting him.

 

     While we were once again betrayed by president Yuiga, in the end, the Adventure Club all worked hand in hand to solve the trap. The ((Ruin)) challenge had finally ended. We had obtained the Nanana Collection (?) as a trophy, and that was that.

 

Section 4

 

     It was a little past noon when we escaped the building. We climbed down the mountainous road and headed towards the station to have lunch. We entered a restaurant that we found. Since we were all hungry, the moment the food we ordered arrived, we silently ate it.

     Of course, we made president Yuiga pay for the food.

     We only returned to the inn at a little past 3 pm. Now we only had to take the luggage we had left in the inn, and go home.

「You guys seem very tired. 」

     The master of the inn welcomed us with a smile. We all relaxed on the chairs in the lobby. Immediately, Ms. Hino and the others brought our luggage.

「Master, can we allow these guests to have another bath? 」

     It was Ms. Misaki who had brought the luggage with Ms. Hino who asked.

「Oh, what happened, Ms. Misaki? 」

「I had thought if the guest can leave feeling refreshed, he might like Ms. Hino more. 」

「Wha? Misaki, what are you saying! 」

     Ms. Hino shook Ms. Misaki’s shoulders as if embarrassed, while glancing at president Yuiga. By the way, Ms. Ibara behind president Yuiga was glancing at Ms. Hino with quite an expression.

     At the attendant’s proposal, the master smiled and nodded.

「Sure, of course. Come, everyone. 」

     I was very thankful for this.

     We all thanked her, and decided to go bathe once more.

     President Yuiga was talking about something with Ms. Hino at the counter, while D’arc seemed to feel hesitant about bathing with the others. We left them there and headed towards the hot springs.

     When we passed by the lounge, I locked eyes with a university student girl that was relaxing in the massage chair at the back. However, she looked away immediately.

「Um, Ms. Misaki. That university student girl that seems quite moody is still here? 」

「Yes. It seemed that she wanted to relax until the very end. So she is going to eat dinner before leaving. 」

     Wow, luxury huh.

「Enjoy yourself then. 」

     I thanked Ms. Misaki for guiding us and parted with the girls. I entered the men’s bath.

        While I was stripping down with Mr. Tsurezure, president Yuiga camein.

「I am really thankful for this. If we went home all sweaty, I wouldn’t feel like I went to the hot springs. 」

     President Yuiga kept the cat plush toy with his clothing into his bag.

「I must thank you for being a playa for once. 」

「Hey don’t tease me Kagetora. I am not popular at all. 」

「「People who are popular with girls always say that! 」」

     Mr. Tsurezure and I both chimed in at the same time.

 

     After washing my body, I soaked myself in the outdoor tub.

     These two days have really been tough. The hot spring really soothed my tired body.

     That being said, since I had come to the hot springs, I wanted to do something as a finale to our trip.

     Then I glanced towards the women’s bath for no reason.

「Hm? 」

     My eyes with perfect eyesight found something.

     It was a suspicious area in the barrier between the women’s bath.

「What, don’t tell me. 」

     I swam across the huge bath and approached it. When I saw it from up close, I realized there was a hole in the barrier.

     D.. don’t tell me this is a peeping hole!

     I did not expect this miracle to happen!

     With this, I could not help but gulp.

     I had not noticed this yesterday. I did not think I would find this today. Is this a gift from the gods!?

     I remember again my family lesson, 『The opportunity would present itself for the one about to achieve something great. 』

     I breathed heavily looking at this hole in the wall.

     Should I peek or not? But wait! Sure, it is a man’s dream to peek into the women’s bath. However, it was merely an excuse for men. Isn’t this a crime? Considering how the women may feel, surely this isn’t something I should be doing.

     Yes, that is right. Think about it Jūgo Yama. Are you sure you should be doing such things? You should know if you are a person with common sense. It is something only a degenerate would do.

     Are you going to do the same thing that the bottom of the human species would do?

     After some struggle to decide, I smirked.

 

     Sure, I can be a degenerate.

     Thus, I looked around. President Yuiga had finally finished washing up and was about to enter the bath. They were a little far from the hole, and it seemed that they did not notice what I was doing.

     That meant there was nobody to prevent me from peeping.

     All clear, there isn’t any problem.

     Thus, I am going to do it.

「! 」

     Then, I locked eyes with another eye from the other side of the hole.

     I could not help but freeze.

     What? What is this?

     I had peeked into the hole in the wall. Surely there was heaven behind the wall.   

     Yet, there was somebody’s eye at the hole.

     Oh no, she might shout.

「…… 」

     However, she did not shout.

     What, what is happening?

     Then, something changed. The eye on the other side moved to the right. The black pupil moved to the right. It was as if the eye wanted me to move away.

     Actually, I think I saw this eye before.

 

「……Move it lower classman or I will kill you. 」

 

     I heard a mutter from the other side of the wall. It was definitely a familiar voice.

     It was Ms. Ibara who was on the other side of the hole.

     Then, I realized.

     The wooden splinters were protruding towards this side. What did this mean? That meant this hole was made from the other side.

     Then who had made the hole from the women’s bath?

     Well, the suspect is definitely in front of me.

     Of course, that is why she won’t shout even if I peek in. Instead, in the end, she complained that I was in the way and she couldn’t see.

     This is really an aggressive girl.

「Erm…… 」

     The moment I tried to say something, the eye behind the hole glared at me almost to the point that it would become bloodshot.

「……Here, take your time. 」

     I obediently went out of the way.

     Meanwhile, president Yuiga sat down in the tub behind me.

     Thus, I could hear some moaning from behind the wall, as well as the great detective asking,「Ms. Ibara, why are you pressing onto the wall with both hands while shaking your butt? 」. It seemed that the other side of the wall was quite chaotic.

     I moved to a spot where the hole would not be able to look at, and soaked in the tub, and thought.

「Peeking is not good, right. 」

     I counted to 100 while soaking my whole body in the tub, and went out.

     Then, the incident happened.

「……The Nanana Collection is gone. 」
