「Let me say it one more time. Can’t the next game be the last one?」

  In our best-out-of-50 Daihinmin tournament, with the punishment game of terror at stake, just before the 46^th game Tensai suggested this. Everyone looked at her.

「What do you mean, Tensai-chan?」, asked Nanana-chan.

  Tensai responded: 「Well, it’s a simple suggestion. There are still five rounds left, but we can make the next round the last one. However, we will multiply the minus points that everyone earns by five. In short, we are condensing all of the next five rounds into one game.」

  At Tensai’s suggestion, Nanana-chan grinned and let out a very interesting 「Hmmmmmm」.

「If we do it like that, it means that the next round is your last chance to make me lose.」

  At this point in time, the amount of oreo’s (minus points) that each of us had acquired was as follows: Nanana-chan – 10 cookies

Tensai – 8 cookies

D’Arc – 15 cookies

And lastly, I had 22 cookies.

  Normally, at this point the game would already be decided. I would be the loser. However, in this best-out-of-50 tournament there was a special rule for Nanana-chan. If she were to get last in a round, she would receive 10 times the amount of oreos. Because of this, if Nanana-chan were to lose the next round, she would receive 60 oreos and it would be her loss.

  While Nanana-chan was trying to see through Tensai’s plan by suggesting this, Tensai gave a mean smile.

「Rather than trying to make Nanana-chan lose twice over the next 5 rounds, we should try to make you lose once in the next round. I think we have a better chance that way.」

  Not even trying to hide it, Tensai said this bluntly. Hearing those words, Nanana-chan laughed heartily.

「Sounds great, let’s go with that!」

  She easily accepted it. Nanana-chan’s confidence never wavered. Having come this far, this confidence actually seemed a bit scary.

  To this very confident Nanana-chan, Tensai made another suggestion.

「What would you think, Nanana-dono, if you and I made a personal bet about the next round, seperate from the best-out-of-50 tournament?」

「A separate bet?」

  Tensai nodded.

「Yes, you can just think of it as a little extra to spice up the entertainment of this evening. In the next game, between you and I the one who ranks lower should do one request from the one who is ranked higher. What do you think of it?」

  After listening to Tensai’s suggestion, Nanana-chan had to think for a bit.

「I see…. yeah, that would definitely spice things up. Okay then, let’s do that.」

  And she easily accepted it.

「It seems like you are brimming with confidence.」

「That’s because I am confident, of course. Fufufu, I wonder if Tensai will be able to beat me in the end?」

  She was using phrases to sound like she was the villain, but her face was showing a joyful smile. She didn’t appear mean-spirited at all.

  On the other side there is Tensai. You are looking a lot more like an actual villain with your creepy smiling like that.

「Well then, before we start the game let me tell you all what I am planning to make Nanana-dono do when she loses. In case I win from Nanana-dono, I will let her tell me the location of any one of the ruins where an artifact in Nanana’s Collection is hidden.」

  When she said that, D’Arc and I looked at her wide-eyed, and Nanana-chan also laughed while also letting out an 「Oh?」.

  Tensai went even further.

「And it won’t be only that. Furthermore, I will have her tell me the trap mechanisms of said ruins, and explain why the artifact from Nanana’s Collection might be in there. Of course, she’ll also have to tell me about it’s abilities.」

「Is that all?」

  Even after hearing those unreasonable demands, Nanana-chan remained unshaken.

「Oh, there is one more thing. If that artifact from Nanana’s Collection happens to be not to my liking, I will have you tell me the place of another one of the ruins. And the information of that one.」

「Oh, I see. Then, as long as you keep saying that the artifact is not to your liking, you will continue to pull information from me about the ruins and the collection. Even if, for example, that would mean me telling you about every single piece of the collection that I know about.」

  Tensai was making ridiculous demands. However, even knowing Tensai’s intentions Nanana-chan’s smile didn’t fade.

「Nanana-dono, you won’t suddenly say that the bet is invalid now will you?」

  When Tensai asked to make sure, Nanana-chan nodded in agreement.

「I won’t do that. I already promised I would play this game with you, after all.」

  There was no hint of her being agitated. Nanana-chan was full of confidence, and her smile would not go away.

「Very well. So Nanana-dono, what are you planning to make me do?」

  When Tensai asked her that, Nanana-chan shook her head to the sides.

「It’s still a secret. There was no rule saying that I would have to tell you right now, was there? I will announce it when you lose to me, Tensai-chan.」

「Sounds good.」

  And just like that, an additional game had been decided on.

  At this sudden turn of events, I stood up.

「Hey Tensai, come with me for a bit.」

  I pulled on Tensai’s arm. She got up at me and just like that, I took her through the entrance and outside.

「What in the world are you trying to do?」

  Certainly this game had become a bit more heated than it should have been, but to use the situation to bargain for information on Nanana’s Collection, that was going too far.

「Isn’t this a good thing, Juugo? Obtaining the artifacts from Nanana’s Collection is the goal of the Adventure Club, of which we are also members. And above all, isn’t it your goal?」

「It is, but….」

  Yes, I am searching for Nanana’s Collection for a certain reason. To find the killer who murdered Nanana-chan ten years ago. Among the collection of treasures with powers that transcended human understanding, named Nanana’s Collection, there should be a treasure capable of finding Nanana-chan’s killer. There was no questioning there would be. So I joined the Adventure Club, where the club activities consisted of looking for Nanana’s Collection.

「Only knowing a clue to one of the Ruins where Nanana’s Collection is hidden is no different than knowing nothing. And it is also annoying to have to acquire a hint every single time, when Nanana-dono knows the locations of all of them. If she will give us information anyways, I might as well go a little crazy here.」

  Nanana-chan had a set of self-imposed rules, also known as Nanana’s Rules. They were notions of uncertain meaning, and this earthbound spirit would stubbornly stick to them no matter what. According to those rules, Nanana-chan would not give me any information on parts of Nanana’s Collection that would assist me in finding her killer. She could not tell me the location where those artifacts were hidden.

  However in this case, if Tensai managed to win the game Nanana-chan would go against the Nanana rules and tell her about the entire collection. Certainly, this was a great chance to get our hands on the entire Nanana Collection.

「However, can you win? This is Daihinmin against the one and only Nanana-chan?」

  Until now, we had already faced enough of Nanana-chan’s overwhelming strength when it came to games.

「You won once, Juugo. Didn’t you? You’re going to properly try to get her to last place, as she is expecting from you.」

「That’s because I cheated. Those kinds of tricks aren’t a real victory.」

  Ignoring me as I was thinking of my disappointing victory, Tensai shook her head to the sides.

「You’re mistaken, Juugo. That’s not where the problem lies.」

「Eh?」

「The method doesn’t matter. What’s important, is that the possibility exists that you, Juugo, can make Nanana-dono lose.」

「What do you mean by that?」

「Nanana-dono’s good luck is already nearly a cheat in and of itself. Let’s give up on that. And what’s more, she has the ability to sufficiently demonstrate that power of hers.」

「That means…」

「However, she lost in spite of all that. That means it’s not impossible for her to lose.」

  Time can never be turned back. People without exception age and die……

  Nanana-chan’s godly amount of luck, precisely because she has superior abilities that surpass those of people, was not the same kind of foregone conclusion.

  What Tensai was trying to say probably came down to that.
