「…Isshin-ssama would never do this. At a time like this Isshin-sama would have thrown me off. 」

Without thinking about it I put distance between us.

Has she really broken the hypnosis?

That’s exactly right. 「Huh? What happened? 」, says Yu as she shakes her head and looks around groggily. Yu is clearly out of the trance.

Seeing this, Misao hurriedly tried to read more of the book, but then stopped herself.

It’s useless, once the hypnosis is lifted, you have to start reading again from the beginning. Continuing the same book is not effective.

Misao takes another paperback book from her bag.

However as soon as she started reading, something changed.

「No, the real Isshin-sama is better than any novel. 」

The difference between reality and the novel is what broke the hypnosis. She was feeling uncomfortable with what the boy in the novel was doing to her.

Misao couldn’t believe it.

As a girl, she should want the buy she likes to be nice to her. That’s how the manipulation works.

But Yu doesn’t like it?  The image of the person she loves is so strongly etched on her mind that the slightest contradiction can break the spell.

No, it’s that the setting isn’t good enough. Ibara-san is not emotionally involved in this school story. I mean how wild is she? Don’t tell me that Ibara-san likes to be choked.

Misao wondered if she had such a book. She thought about the lineup of books she had in her bag. However, all she carried were school romances. Or rather, Misao only carried the genres she she liked best.

Then she realized what was happening and went through her bag.

Ah here it is. A new tsundere boyfriend light novel that was released yesterday, I really like this series.

But Misao stops herself.

Wait. I’ve been looking forward to reading this book since before it was released, and once I bought it I decided to wrap myself up in a futon and read it. I don’t know if I want to read it for the first time under these circumstances.

「Oh yeah! I just remembered I need to destroy this woman. 」

Yuu, who had regained consciousness completely now, glared at Misao and approached her. Misao hurriedly took out another book and began to read again.

However pure love stories are not effective.

Oh no. If it wasn’t for the hypnotism, I would never be able to beat Ibara-san. She would definitely get me and make me cry. I mean, Ibara-san is really scary. Last time in the warehouse 《ruin》, she beat up my friend Yama-kun. Even if we ran away, they would chase us to the ends of the earth.

While reading the book out loud and half-crying, Misao’s head was spinning frantically.

Then Misao comes up with a brilliant idea.

O yeah, cel phone novels! There’s plenty of genres on there!

She throws away the stun gun and puts away the book, then hurriedly pulls out her cel phone from her pocket. She uses it to open the page of a cel phone novel.

Let’s see, I want Tsudere type….I want to read that one next time so I’ll pass for now… let’s see, maybe an office romance type?

Misao switches from paperback novels to cel phone novels, but soon problems arose.

Oh no, it’s all dialog so I’ll finish it too fast. And it takes too long for the next page to load! As a result Yuu is hypnotized for a short time, then it comes undone almost immediately. Then she is hypnotized shortly and back to normal again, and the process repeats itself.

Because of the situation, Misao’s legs are frozen.

Ugh, what should I do? I’m afraid that Ibara-san’s hypnosis will be lifted so I don’t want to carelessly approach and try to attack.

There was a sudden explosion. Startled, Misao looks in that direction.

「I lost to you last time, but things will be different this time, Masaaki Kishitani. I’ve already seen through your ability. You’ve only gained strength through the Nanana Collection. It means nothing if you can’t hit me. All I have to do is attack with bombs from a distance like a ninja. 」

B..bombs!? Why is a ninja doing carrying those!?

Right after that a shadow quickly jumps out of the smoke.

「Who did you say is all strength?! 」

With iron shackles on both wrists and ankles, Masaaki closed the distance to Kagetora like a bullet.

It’s the second form of the 《Iron Shackles of Hekatonkiru》, which not only possesses great power in its arms, but also explosive leg strength. However this lowers Masaaki’s ability to reason and raises his ferocity.

「Hold on a second you! 」

Noticing that Ibara-san had somehow broken the hypnosis, Misao quickly begins to read another story.

「This is good, Kagetora is being pushed. 」

「Graaaa! 」

Next to them, the ninja and berserker start fighting. They are jumping and banging their fists into each other.

Then with a  Boom Boom Kagetora’s bombs go off. Each time the sound of the explosion resets Yuu’s, hypnosis, causing MIsao to read another story in a hurry.

「It’s getting way too loud! Go fight over there! I can’t read the story! 」

Misao couldn’t help but scream this and notices Yuu’s angry gaze. She hurries to start a different story.

What’s up with this situation!

Shortcutting down the steep hill, they roll and somehow land safely.

「Are you OK, Tensai? 」

「I’m fine. But from now on, say something before jumping off a cliff. 」

She puts her feet on the ground begrudgingly. As expected she doesn’t shout at all. She is as determined as ever.

「I’m sorry. 」

「At any rate, this was a super short cut. Maybe we can catch up to them. 」

「Right?! Come on, let’s go. 」

We continued to our destination, passing through a residential area and entering a side street of stores.

I was surprised that there were still people around at this hour, but I remembered that today was the Tanabata Festival. The Festival was over and the whole commercial district was in the middle of clean up.

Then I spotted a couple running from the other side and couldn’t help but grin.

「I never thought we’d get ahead of them. 」

I don’t know if they took a wrong turn because they were in an unfamiliar place, but Nishii-san and Amagi-san entered the shopping arcade late. They both spotted us and had a look of annoyance on their faces.

「What kind of magic trick did you use Yama? Was it a Nanana Collection? 」

「No, I just know the area well. It’s a bad habit to assume everything is because of the Nanana Collections. 」

「Damn it. If we fight with Juugo and the others here it’ll be crazy. 」

What should we do against these unexpected enemies, especially in the middle of a busy shopping street?

「Asume, get going. 」

Amagi made a quick decision. He pushes Nishi-san’s back to get her going.

「It’s decided then. 」

Nishi-san ran without hesitation.

Well if that’s the case, then so will you… as I thought this Tensai was already running.

「Whoa whoa, Tensai-chan! Let me say some cool lines too! 」

Even though I’m shouting this behind her, the great detective ignores me. What a selfish detective. Well, that was the best thing to do anyways.

「They sure do trust you, don’t they Yama? 」

「Well, at the moment they do. 」

With that said, only Amagi and I  were left.

「Can I ask you one question Amagi-kun? 」

「Ugh, just call me Taisei. 」

「OK then Taisei. How did you manage to break through the warehouse 《ruin》 mechanical dolls before? 」

「What the hell are you talking about? 」

「Did you use a Nanana Collection or was it a strategy? I’ve been trying to figure out that out for awhile. 」

「Why do you want to know? 」

「Just out of curiosity. 」

「It’s strategy. 」

「In other words, 《ruins》 have certain tendencies? 」

「Well yeah, but it does require some investigation though. 」

「Investigation? 」

「Before you head to a treasure chest, you have to look around the various 《ruins》. After that you compare it to the tendencies of other 《ruins》 you’ve encountered before. Well, it’s not like you can figure everything out though. 」

「I see. You really are a veteran 《ruin》 explorer. I mean is it ok? Is it really ok to tell me so much? 」

「It doesn’t matter. You’re about to become one of us anyways. 」

「Are you sure you are going to win? 」

「You think you can beat me? 」

Taisei laughs confidently. But strangely, I don’t find it sarcastic. It’s very different from some of the others I’ve fought recently. So I answer honestly.

「Probably not. Because we don’t even have a single Nanana Collection. 」

「Well aren’t you unusually honest one. 」

「No, honesty is the only good thing about me. 」

「Lair. 」

「Yeah that was a lie. 」

I grin.
