Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 6 Chapter 5.3

「If that’s the case then shut up and watch. Don’t interfere in what I do.」

The hand on my shoulder had intense grip strength.

「…ok then. My bad.」

When I looked back after all that whispering, Tensai was smiling fearlessly.

「Hmph, I like the fact that you’re an acquaintance of Juugo. All right. Rejoice Englishman. I, a great detective, will be your opponent.」

「Really!? Haruto is happy!」

「He can speak normally, but the way he chooses to speak irritates me.」

「Well, I’m willing to accept those terms.」

「So which battle area do you choose?」

When Tensai asks, Haruto glances around and heads towards a nearby building. He saw the battle area poster there and he grinned.

「How about this? It’s a very simple game that even a great detective can play.」

《Luck – Rock, Paper, Scissors》

The person who wins a rock-paper-scissors game will get one coin from the loser.

Note that the coin bets in this battle area have a special rule. Only one coin can be bet at a time. However, in the event of a tie, the number of coins bet is forcibly increased by one. The maximum bet is limited to the maximum number of coins owned by either layer, and the number of coins bet does not increase after that.

「Rock paper scissors? Are you kidding?」

「No way. I’m serious.」

「It’s absurd to decide a winner is such a contest. It’s just luck.」

「Heh. Luck huh?」

「? What’s so funny?」

「Well, since you call yourself a great detective, I thought you had some degree of ability, but I never thought you would assume that rock paper scissors is just a matter of luck. That’s surprising. Now I know how great of a detective you are.」

As I watched Haruto insulting Tensai I thought, ‘Oh, that’s not good.’

「Kukuku…. NYAHAHAHA!」

Ah, this is what I expected to happen.

Tensai burst into laughter and pointed at Haruto.

「Isn’t this interesting? Fine, if you insist so much, I’ll completely defeat you in this match.」

While being pointed at, Haruto smiles back.

「So the battle is decided. As we discussed earlier, the number of coins at stake is three each. We enter the battle area with only three coins. The game will end when one of the players runs out of coins.」

「Is it ok if we just bet all we have?」

I don’t’ mind that either, but if I go too far I’m afraid someone somewhere will resent me. I’ll go easy of you in front of my friend.」

Don’t stare at me like that detective. I didn’t say anything.

「Oh well. So in the meantime what do we do with our bags with the remaining coins?」

「We should leave them with Juugo.」

「Huh? Me?」

I point as myself as I ask.

「Hmm, it seems like you trust Juugo, but don’t you think he’ll just run away?」

「Am I that untrustworthy?」

「What is it about Juugo that makes you believe in him?」

Didn’t I give you the fake 《Yugutoth’s Eye》? I looked away from your eyes and said 「Of course「.

「Don’t worry. Stealing coins against someone’s will is against the rules, and if you do anything like that gorokuma will hunt you down immediately.」

Haruto points behind us. I look over to see one of the gorokuma patrolling the park, ‘What are you doing?’ , he seems to say while looking at us.

「It’s ok.」

When Tensai accepts Haruto’s proposal, she takes out three coins from the bag he was carrying and throws the bag with the rest of the coins to me.

Likewise, Haruto took out only three coins from his own bag and handed me the bag containing the remaining 6 coins.

「I’ll just leave it with you. Running away with it is against the rules.」

Hearing Haruto’s reminder, the patrolling gorokuma who was watching me stands next to me. It grinned at me and show it’s fangs as if to say, ‘You know what happens if you steal from a cat right?’

「I mean Haruto, do you have something against great detectives?」

I mean it’s normal to have a negative reaction to the way Tensai acts to being called a 《great detective》.

「It’s just that my ancestor four generations ago was caught by a great detective and died an untimely death in prison.」

「….I understand. That’s a good reason for the youngest member of a family that values its bloodline.」

Apparently a race called great detectives existed in Europe in ancient times.

And so it was decided that the great detective Ikkyu Tensai, and the aristocrat, Ishbal Kornahl A.K.A the mysterious foreign student Neidhard D. Polnareff, would play rock paper scissors.

「We don’t have much time, let’s hurry」, said Haruto as he stepped into the battle area as he pulls a pocket watch on a chain out of his pocket to check the time.

As expected from an aristocrat. I thought for a moment that it was something expensive, but I soon changed my mind. Because that pocket watch looked familiar.

「Hmmm, that pocket watch looks familiar.」

Tensai, who followed Haruto into the battle area, also noticed the same thing as me when she saw the pocket watch in Haruto’s hand.

「Aaah. Now that I think about it, this 《Milts Meer’s Pocket Watch》 was something that Nishi and the others won from you guys.」

That’s right. It’s the Nanana collection that was taken away after losing the battle with Nishi-san, Taisei, and the others at the 《ruins》 where we first met the members of the Seventh High School Student Council.

Haruto laughs boldly.

「I’ll show you the power of the Nanana collection that you all missed out on.」

「Now, how did this happen?」

I ask myself how I ended up being a witness between Haruto and Tensai.

Incidentally I was holding a total of 16 coins that had been entrusted to me. I could have decided to make off with all of them so I could clear the first stage with Tetsu-kun, but that would have been a big mistake. One of the patrolling gorokuma were standing right next to me. If I run away, the sound of the alien’s ‘Kishaa!’ will be heard throughout Sevensland and all the gorokuma will be attracted to it. Then they will all attack me at once.

That’s why I decided to just watch over them quietly.

Judging by the sign above this battle area, it appears to be a souvenir shop for the park. However since there is still awhile to go until the store opens, the shelves are just set up. There are no products on them yet.

Standing alone inside the empty shop is a gorokuma, the referee for this battle area. There is of course also a betting table next to it where you can wager coins.

In front Juugo and the gorokuma, Tensai and Haruto face each other for the battle.

These two will be competing in rock paper scissors. This area is different than the other battle areas in that you can only bet one coin at a time. The loser gives one coin to the winner, it’s a simple exchange.

The interesting thing though is that if there is a tie, the bet carries over. The bet not only carries over, but also the number of coins that are bet is increased by one.

In other words, if you tie once then the next match will be a two coin bet. And if you tie again the next match will be a three coin bet. The longer you tie, the more the bet will be fore.

In this case, the match between the two is for three coins per player. So the rule for tying will only go to a max of a three coin bet.

This will be a short battle.

I was also curious about Haruto’s Nanana collection.

The battle at the 《ruin》 that was held earlier between the 3rd High School Adventure Club and the 7th High School Student Council without President Yuiga. There a bet was placed on the Nanana collection that was inside the treasure chest in that 《ruin》.

What kind of abilities does that pocket watch have?

And so the battle finally begins.

Tensai and Haruto glare at each other.

The gorokuma referee who was watching spread his arms wide.

「Kii, Kii, Kyaa!」

The two of them raise their hands and bring them down while saying ‘rock paper scissors’ in response to gorokuma’s strange voice. I mean gorokuma can only make strange noises, so there’s no need for him to say it himself.

「Huh?」

Tensai grins after the results of the first match.

The results are interesting because Tensai and Haruto threw the same thing.

So as a result  the first throw is a tie. And s one coin was added to the bet, and the next throw will be for a two coin bet.
