Nanana’s Buried Treasure Volume 7 Chapter 7.12

「So then, you didn’t know Juugo?」

「Do you think Sansa-san would tell us something like that?」

Tensai grins and says, 「I guess that’s true.」

「So Juugo. Do you think Kurosu Sansa can defeat Nanana-dono?」

When the great detective asked me that, I was confused but nodded.

「She might win.」

「Oh. Is that a villainous bias?」

This time, I didn’t say ‘Don’t put us in the same category’ like I usually would.

「Ah, yes it is.」

Hearing this Tensai laughs gleefully.

「Hmph, interesting.」

Then we turn our eyes to the monitor again to see the outcome of the match.

**********************************************************

After seeing Nanana draw a 7 from the top of the pile of 13 cards, Sansa felt confident about her victory.

After all, the remaining twelve cards in the pile are (in order from top to bottom) 9, 2, Q, 10, 3, K, A, 6, J, 4, 8, and 5.

How does Sansa know this?

It’s because Sansa had instructed Yuiga Isshin to make a pile of thirteen cards in that order. When did he make that pile? Before the match began. Where was it? It was in Yuiga Isshin’s pocket.

That’s right, the thirteen cards that Isshin shuffled earlier and the thirteen cards currently on the table are different decks. Isshin had made the switch during the negotiation time earlier. But why wasn’t it noticed? It was because Sansa was acting in a way that drew the attention of everyone in the room to her. This wasn’t just limited to Nanana in front of him. The same goes for the female crew operating the cameras. She checked the line of sight, made sure the camera was pointed at herself, then moved her thumb. Seeing this, Isshin managed to safely switch the cards.

The scenario for this battle has been decided. The 6th card which Sansa will draw is the number 3. The baton will be handed over to Nanana with great skill. Of the seven cards that had not yet been turned over at that point, only the king could push the value over 50. However, Nanana doesn’t even think for a second that she might draw the king next. Up until then things had been going her way, and when the first card she drew for this game was a seven, Nanana felt like she was in top form.

She is convinced that there is no way she can lose in this game of luck, where all you do is turn over cards.

However, even the fact that Nanana thought this when she drew that number was part of Sansa’s plan.

Nanana then draws the king on the seventh card and loses. In this 7th consecutive 《forced acquisition game》, she is the one to turn over the 7th card, and even though the probability of losing is one in seven, she is stunned by her loss.

There is no room for the amazing power of Nanana’s luck to intervene in this. This is because this is not a game of luck, but a simple task of turning over cards that have been rearranged in the order set by Sansa.

Sansa is thinking.

With the pattern of how things have been going so far, the very idea of beating the incredibly lucky Nanana is already incomprehensible.

There is only one way to bury Nanana.

It would have to be a one-hit KO. One hit that would never miss. One hit that was incredibly heavy.

As a result, Nanana would lose the game. She would lose an overwhelming number of coins, 220 * 7, or 1,470 to Sansa.

Sansa had lost 500 coins to Nanana so far. Compared to the 1,470 she was about to take, it was a very small investment.

The battle continues.

As expected, Sansa drew the number 9 for the second card, making the total 16.

At this point, the number of coins to be paid in this game is 420.

For this third card, Nanana of course draws the number 2. The total is now 18.

And so there is more added. The total number of coins to be paid is now 630. She couldn’t help but grin inside.

For the fourth card, Sansa draws the queen as predetermined. The total is now 30.

The total number of coins to be paid is now 840. She can’t stop laughing.

And the 5th card Nanana is drawing is a 10…

「Um, I’ll stop.」

…huh?

Sansa couldn’t help but look up upon hearing this.

When Yuiga Isshin (the banker) was told this, he looked at her and said ‘huh?’.

M had a big smile on her face.

「Didn’t you hear me? I said ‘I’ll stop’.」

「Huuuuuuuuuuuh?」

Sansa shouted. Of course she would shout.

Because there is absolutely no reason to fold at this point. She’s just turned over the fourth card, and the total is 30. No matter what I draw, I’m in a super safe zone. There’s no reason to declare that she’s lost at this stage.

「What do you mean, Nanana?」

As Sansa yelled at her, Nanana smiled faintly and says,

「Well, I was planning on taking a loss from the beginning this time.」

「Wha?」

「Well, it’s just such a high stakes match. If I win again, Juugo would go into 《debt》. You would as well. Also, thinking about the future I wanted to take a moderate loss this time.」

Nanana laughs with a smile.

That’s when Sansa speaks up.

「You’re just assuming that you would win?」

「Well you know, there’s no way I could lose when I draw the 7.」

Those were words that Nanana spoke to Sansa. She had fought many battles with Kurosu Sansa up until now, and she was able to compete on equal terms with her.

Here, in this flow, she thought it would be impossible for her to lose because she drew the 7.

Sansa just seemed to calm down.

And then she makes a move.

She grabs the remaining deck of nine cards and turns them over one by one. 10, 3, 5, k.

……

「I see. I was definitely going to lose.」

Sansa tapped her finger on the eighth card, the k that was supposed to be drawn and grinned.

「You narrowly avoided death, Sansa.」

Nanana smiled brightly.

「Ah, thank goodness you’re an idiot」, replied Sansa with a grin. She then threw down all the cards she was holding.

Of course, this was all just an act. The reason why the 8th card was a king was because Sansa had pulled out the 5 from the bottom of the deck as the 7th card.

Though she had a smile on her face, inside she was boiling with rage.

Sansa calmly accepts that her blow had missed the mark, and in the most humiliating way possible.

The person who set the trap didn’t realize that it was too clever, and just before the victim fell into it, she felt assured it would work, but it turned out it didn’t.

As far as Nanana knew, there was no trap set for her. She just chose defeat of her own free will.

There is nothing more humiliating than this. But there is no need to reveal the secrets.

I wouldn’t go around telling anyone how amazing the thing I almost did was.

Because there is no point in such bragging.

All it turned out to be was a shot that should have gone in, but missed in a humiliating turn of events.

So it’s over. The other person doesn’t even notice. And it will just go without anyone knowing.

This will help to win the next one.

She’s reasoned this out in her head, but her guts are boiling. She’s extremely angry.

And so Sansa thinks:

Nanana and I had completely different views of this match.

Nanana wasn’t just trying to beat me.

Nanana was thinking that by losing she would avoid hurting Juugo and my other teammate.

And as a result of Nanana’s consideration for others, Nanana avoided defeat. She didn’t even realize that she was on the verge of losing, she was satisfied with her actions and it was over.

All good fortune circulates around Nanana, giving birth to smiles and happiness.

Just like when she was alive.

That’s why I think that Ryugajou Nanana has the strongest luck, ‘tenun’. The ‘ten’ here though is definitely the ‘ten’ of a natural idiot. (TN: the kanji ten being talked about here means heavenly, but in the second part means natural.)

「They succeeded in stealing 210 coins. Finally, the Young Lady Team stopped their losing streak. It was the first time they managed to steal coins from the Cat Ears Team.」

The voice of the live announcer echoes through the large hall.

Sansa-san, who had literally lost six games in a row, has finally broken this losing streak. This means that she has finally gotten her revenge on Nanana-chan.

But…

「Did you win, or was that victory handed to you?」

「Hmph. …But still, Kurosu is a scary person.」

I agree with Tensai’s assessment.
