    Before I knew it, my heart was pounding.

「Quite cool, right? 」

    Hey now… if that’s true that’s quite amazing. 

    Ms. Shiki who saw my expression muttered.

「This was probably Nanana’s purpose」

 

    In the end, Ms. Shiki did not tell me any more. She chased me out saying「I am getting sleepy, so go home」.

    But that was enough

((Nanana Ryūgajō’s Buried Treasure)) and the ((Nanana Collection)).

    Collection is a term that usually refers to merchandise that fans can collect.

    Nevertheless, I do not know anything about this collection, like what shape or form it took.

    If this was another one of Ms. Shiki’s stories, it would be a lie. However, I could see in her eyes that she was telling the truth.

『Humans can lie with their expressions, but they cannot lie with their eyes』

    I recalled my family had taught me this moral. I could not help but want to know the answer to this.

「……Hm」

    I took out my phone from my pocket.

「I am going to go to the convenience store, do you need me to buy something? 」

「Pudding」

I listened to her usual line, while I walked through town late at night.

It had been several days since I had heard Ms. Shiki’s story. The bandage on my left hand had already come off and I was finally fully recovered.

The time currently was just before midnight. Good people don’t loiter around outside at this time, huh? I lambasted myself, while I walked in the night.

Suddenly, I recalled how I have never taken a walk outside at this time alone before. It was not as if I was pretending to be a good boy when I was at my former home. It seemed that I had not taken the initiative to do these kinds of things. Even if I had the opportunity to go out during the night, it was either with someone else or because someone asked me to run an errand……I don’t think I ever did so because I wanted to.

While walking in the night, I suddenly thought.

Perhaps, life is similar to a dark road in the middle of the night……while thinking philosophy, I continued walking on the road that was lit by road lamps.

Similar to this road in the night; due to having little light from the road lamps, one walks cautiously through life without being able to see what is in front clearly. If that was the correct way for me it is fine, but if I feel that something is wrong I start walking cautiously toward another lamppost.

Perhaps one does not need to walk. Perhaps the better choice would be to just stop there. Even moving is cumbersome, and perhaps just staying there not moving is fine.

However, I feel that that is boring. I should use this opportunity to explore the world of the dark without being influenced by anyone. I felt the impulse to do something. I wanted to just run around till I tire out.

That is why to commemorate the first time I had walked alone in life by coming to this island, I decided to set a goal or a purpose to my life.

What should that goal be? For starters, one thing catches my attention right now. The existence of the earthbound ghost,  Nanana Ryūgajō.

She is the girl that made this island so that anyone can dream, and died at a young age……. Well, if I go home, there she is.

But still, who is the person that killed Nanana?

It seems that the murderer has not been caught yet. I felt like I wanted to do something for her, but it was an incident 10 years ago. Everything has been thoroughly investigated, and surely there was no possibility that there would be new evidence now.

I questioned it in a positive way, but I still was curious about the Nanana Collection.

I wonder what it was. What kind of power did it have? It would be a lie to say that I was not curious.

While I was pondering and walking, I arrived at my destination before I knew it. I was at the convenience store.

「Welcome… 」

I listened to this greeting that seemed very tired and unmotivated. I entered the convenience store and killed some time at the magazine corner. I bought the pudding that is three for ¥100 that Nanana had asked me to buy.

「Thank you… 」. After hearing the attendant’s exasperated call, I entered the world of the dark once again.

I entered a narrow alley that was a shortcut to my apartment.

Although it was a dark alley, it would take three extra minutes if I did not go through this place.

While lazily walking along the alley, I looked up and——

Something came floating down from the sky.

「I’m back」. When I came back to room 202, Nanana had a gleam in her eyes. She sang 「Pudding♪, pudding♪」. She was banging the table. Nanana waiting to eat her pudding and banging the table would surely disturb the neighbors. I hurriedly placed the set of three pudding cups on the table.

Besides the pudding, I also placed “that”.

「Hm? What is that? 」

Nanana had already ripped the package and was peeling off the lid of the first pudding. She looked at the black box that I had placed on the table.

「It came floating down from the sky」

When I answered honestly, she laughed and said, 「What are you saying」. However, she seemed to have an interest in what was inside. Thus, when she ate one mouthful of pudding from the plastic spoon and smiled happily. She opened the box’s lid.

Inside was a blue gemstone about the size of one’s fist. No, for real.

「Is that the Aetherium [1. TL Note: Also known as “Volucite”. It is an object in the anime “The Castle in the Sky” that possesses the power of flight. It enables one to fly] crystal? 」

「Thank you for making the typical joke. Nonetheless, there was not a girl that came floating down alongside it, and it was in a box」

「I see」. She muttered while taking it as if interested. Then, after looking at it for a while, she suddenly smiled and started laughing.

「Wow, so nostalgic. This is the(( Lustrous Lie Detector))」

「Lus……what? What did you just say? 」

「 Lustrous Lie Detector 」

The earthbound ghost suddenly started saying something incomprehensible

「What……what, don’t tell me that is the name of this」

「Yep, that is right. I named it」

I was sorry for interrupting while she smiled, but the name was so lame I could not help but be surprised.

「Why did you name it that way? 」

「Because it is easy to understand」

It was beyond just easy to understand. It was just literally the function. True, it was a fist-sized oval blue gemstone. However, I had not seen such a big gemstone before, and was this even a gemstone? It was transparent, and was shiny. From first glance, it was definitely a gemstone. However, it somewhat felt different from an ordinary gemstone. It was not as dark in color as a lapis lazuli. It more closely resembled a sapphire stone.  I had thought that it was a fake made of colored glass. However, the surface had no scratches. That meant that it was decently hard. That meant……

After thinking so, I looked at Nanana. 「Hm」

「Hey, what is this lie detector」

Nanana had definitely said so just now.

「This gemstone is a lie detector」

What is that?

While I looked at her suspiciously, Nanana started explaining.

「You have to place it in front of your eye like this, and look at another person through the gemstone. Then, if you ask a question, you know if the other person is lying or not」

While smiling, she looked at me through the gemstone. Her words sounded like a lie. It stank of a lie so much that the scammer that was on TV a few days ago sounds much more trustworthy.

「W, wait. In the first place, is this yours? 」

I said such a fundamental question.

 

「It was originally mine. That is because this is a part of the Nanana Collection」

While smiling in a splendid way, she gave me such important information. I say this, but I wasn’t surprised.

「I… I see」

「What is that clumsy forced smile」

「Don’t worry about it」. I coughed a little bit, and asked something basic.

「By the way, where was this from? 」

「Err, a ruin in Latin America. If I remember correctly, the official name of this thing was called the ((Eye of Kontholos)). Apparently, it was a spirit that was worshipped there, and its eye could tell an honest person and a liar apart」

「And you took it from there? From the ruins in Latin America? 」

「Yep」

「Did you really? 」

「Yep」

「Why? 」

「Because I like to do things like that」

No no, I don’t understand. This should not be a thing that could be obtained easily. 

I could not sense any sort of lie from Nanana’s eyes though.
