Thus, I decided to experiment.

I took the gemstone from Nanana’s hands and looked through it. When I looked through it I found out it was much more transparent than I expected, because I could see through it very clearly.

「Um, could you lie? 」

I asked Nanana who was blue from my new view. Nanana nodded.

「I hate puddings」

Immediately, some dark fog appeared from Nanana.

I quickly took the gemstone away from my eye. Nanana had no change.

「What was that? 」

「If a dark fog appears, it means that the other person is lying」

「Once more, can you say something true? 」

「Err……I like Jūgo」

Nanana smiled in a cute way that I could not help but be captivated by. Her eyes were not cloudy at all.

Then, within the blue vision, there was a dark fog.

It was an alley between the buildings. It had a width of a school’s corridor, but it was dark and felt narrow and suffocating due to the trash can and the piled-up wooden boxes placed there. Most importantly, it was dirty.

The person that was gazing into the alleyway was wearing the female uniform of the Nanae Island Private First High School, which is the first-ever school to be built on this island. She had black short hair and tan skin. She clearly seemed that she wasn’t Japanese.

「Do you not understand from seeing it, Mr. Watson [1. TL Note: In reference to one of the main characters in the book, “Sherlock Holmes”. Mr. Watson is the partner to the main detective Sherlock Holmes, where Sherlock always explains the mystery to Watson]? I am sleeping here」

It was a girl in the same uniform that was lying down in the middle of the alley with her arms and legs spread wide.

This girl had wavy golden hair and brown eyes that were somewhat intimidating. However, it was clear that she did not seem like a foreigner or mixed race. She was purely Japanese.

「What do you mean Watson?  I have a name,  it’s D’arc Hoshino」

「I see, I also have the name Tensai Ikkyū」

D’arc gazed into the alleyway, while Tensai Ikkyū stood up.

 

「So? What are you doing? 」

「What do you think I am doing? 」

「It looked like you were sleeping, but? 」

「I see. Sorry, but you are wrong, Mr. Watson」

「That is why I am D’arc……no, you just said that you were sleeping」

D’arc sighed at how Tensai was so insane.

「Then, what did you come here for Mr. Watson?」

「I came here because you said『Go investigate the incident』」

「Then explain the incident, Mr. Watson, 」

Tensai sighed again at Tensai’s really selfish way of conversing. D’arc took out a notepad from his pocket.

「Err, the crime was late at night. The criminal that had stolen a gemstone from the Ikkaku estate had walked on top of the roof…… 」

「Ninjaaaa」

「Don’t interrupt when somebody is talking about something serious……then, the criminal escaped to the 18th park which is a few kilometers from here. The police that had been monitoring the criminal and chasing after them immediately surrounded the park. They checked all 17 people in the park」

「Hm. For it being night time, there are quite a lot of people」

「That is because it is a large park. It is a popular spot for couples to get privacy. Also people who were walking around or jogging」

「Never mind then, go on」

「Then, the police did a body check, but it seemed that they did not have anything that seemed like it」

「Is there a possibility that it was hidden somewhere in the park? 」

「From midnight yesterday till now (noon), 50 police personnel had tried their best to search for it, but apparently there was not anything」

「There was a card was in the place the robbery took place that states that a crime had taken place…….」

「Look at it, Cat’s Eye [2. TL Note: In reference to the Japanese manga turned anime “Cat’s eye”, where the main characters who are robbers always have the same catchphrase].」

「Please do not interrupt when I am talking」

「It was the Bandit Organization, Matsuri, right? 」

「What, how do you know? 」

「These days, only they would be cocky enough to state that they stole it. Well, I do recognize that it is their signature. I do think that it is kind of cool. But I don’t like how their name is lame. I want a name that is more inspirational……」

Then for the next five minutes, Tensai talked about her passion for names.

「…….well, that aside. I had already known everything that Mr. Watson had investigated」

「What, really?! 」

D’arc yelped in surprise.

「Then why did you make me go search? 」

「I had thought that there might be new information. Nevertheless, it seemed that there was none. D’arc, you seemed to have gone out of your way to do something unnecessary」

「Why do you call me by my proper name now?! 」

D’arc was almost about to cry. Tensai smirked. She had a habit of teasing him.

Well, D’arc did know about this bad habit of his master/caretaker’s. He repeated his question to Tensai once again.

「Then what is the reason you are in this alley? 」
