Chapter 93 Part 1

Birthday Party (1) ~Another Saturday~

Saturday, June 16th.

After finishing the half-day classes, Yuu was in the student council office as usual.

He was having lunch with Sayaka and the others, using bread that was bought at the school store.

On weekdays, Yuu had been eating lunch boxes prepared by the housekeeper, but he had never used the school cafeteria or the school store.

Both places certainly offered their products at a lower price than the ones put on the market, but it seemed that during lunch time, both places were very crowded with female students, so most of the boys stayed away from those places.

As far as Yuu was concerned, he would like to give it a try sometime in the future, but not only was the school store the only one that was open on Saturday, which was today, he had heard that a fierce battle was unfolding there between the athletic girls who were going to participate in afternoon club activities, so he ended up getting slightly cold feet.

As such, today, too, he gratefully helped himself with the bread that Sayaka and the others had obtained after jumping into the fray, or course he paid for it.

Together with three girls, the meal time was also very lively.

The conversation naturally turned to something related to the student council.

Namely the re-establishment of the joint event with Sairei Academy after 10 years, the first time since they became a co-ed school, as well as the July social event that was scheduled to take place in the evening on the same day.

Currently, they were in the process of finalizing the general schedule, and since the date had been tentatively set for July 27th, right after they got into the summer vacation, that meant it was still more than a month away.

However, not only would they like to make progress with the preparations as soon as possible since they had final exams right before that date, for the male-female joint event, they needed to gather trustworthy volunteers so that they could get their cooperation without leaking the information to the outside world.

Sayaka and Riko, who only ate one sweet bread each, were holding two A4-sized sheets of paper in their hands.

One sheet contained the proposed schedule of joint events faxed to them by the student council of Sairei Academy.

The other sheet was a schedule of Sairyou Academy’s July male-female social event, which had the word 『Confidential』 written on it in red.

The schedule was blank for the final exams and the three days right before that, so in practice, they only had one month to work on it.

On top of that, once they got into July, they would also have to have a meeting with the Sairei student council every other Saturday.

Until then, they would communicate mainly by phone and fax.

「As expected, if we want to say, 『Let’s cancel it』, we can no longer do it, can we?」

「Not only Sairei, to think that the board chairman would also be so eager about it….」

「Yeah. Even though things have only started to work, talk about overhasty.」

Apparently, when they reported to the board of directors that they were going to hold a quiz during the joint event, the chairman was very pleased and said that if it went well, it might be a good idea to hold it together with all high schools in the group from next year.

On that occasion, they thought about expanding the event to the 『Ayakuni Group Cup High School Quiz Championship』.

It was just that Sayaka and the others had a problem with the student council of Sairei Academy, with whom they would hold the joint event, and they seemed to have a tinge of worry about whether it would truly go without a hitch.

As a matter of fact, they were looking at Yuu with eyes as if they were older sisters who were worried about their younger brother who had ended up getting targeted by stalkers.

It was partly because for Yuu, both the New Students Orienteering and the Inter-class Ball Game Competition were special events that allowed him to deepen his friendship with the first-year girls, and also because he was not as wary of the Sairei Student Council as the three members of the Student Council.

When they saw Yuu smiling, Sayaka and the others looked at each other.

「Fufufu. You sure a positive-thinking one, aren’t you, Yuu-kun?」

「Hearing Yuu-kun says so, I can’t help but feel that everything will be fine.」

「As expected of you, Yuu-kun!」

「Hahaha. It’s nothing that great.」

The room took a one-eighty turn and brightened up at Yuu’s words.

That was a good thing, but this time, the three of them started to barrage Yuu with questions, which ended up making him feel overwhelmed.

When they were done with their lunch, at 1:30 p.m., Sayaka called the student council of Sairei Academy to adjust the schedule using the phone installed in the student council office.

Sayaka proceeded with the conversation solely in a businesslike manner, and when she put down the phone after about 10 minutes, she sported a bitter smile on her face.

When asked why, it seemed that Mitsuse Rinne, the other side’s student council president, had persistently asked her to let her talk to Yuu, but Sayaka readily rejected it, saying, 「But I refuse」,  and hung up.

Done with their business for the day, the four of them left the student council office together.

Normally, Yuu alone would take the bus from the front of the second school building to go home, but today, they were together.

That was because they were going to hold a birthday party at Sayaka’s apartment.

If anything, this was where the fun began.

「The rain just won’t stop, will it~?」

「It’s the rainy season, after all.」

As they left the boarding house, where the student council office was located, the four of them looked up at the sky.

Today, the rain had been pouring incessantly all day long.

Looking around the rear garden, the greenery was more vivid than it was when Yuu visited the student council for the first time.

In particular, the hydrangeas, azaleas, and other colorful flowers were blooming, which was pleasing to the eye.

「It’s raining, so shall we take a taxi?」

That was because he had heard that her apartment was only a 10-minute walk away from school.

They told Yuu that Sayaka’s proposal to take a taxi even though it was only a short distance away was not because her family was rich, but for his safety.

If Yuu were to stubbornly say, 「Let’s go there on foot.」, what would happen?

Even if he was accompanied by those three, once they left the school, they would be exposed to the eyes of an unspecified number of women.

Besides, the area around Sayaka’s apartment was a newly developed residential area, so it was easy to be seen by the public eye.

After thinking that far in a short time, Yuu decided to obediently follow the proposal.

Looking at the phone number of the taxi company posted at the reception desk on the first floor of the administration building, they called a taxi from the green public phone installed there, and it arrived in less than 10 minutes.
