Volume 1 Chapter 1 Part 3

「I just don’t like the possibility of them sinking. 」

There is a sea area near Ismeia where Chaos often occurs in high concentrations, and because of that a lot of sea monsters often appear in that region.

「Isn’t there such a danger even when traveling by land? 」

「If it’s this kind of danger, we can do something about it. Isn’t that right? 」

「Well, I think I most certainly can… 」

Irvin let out a wry smile.

「Besides, I have not formally contracted with Earl Constance yet. Attacking me right now would be tantamount to the violation of the agreement. 」

It has been regulated through a special agreement that it is forbidden to harm neutral Mages who have not made a contract with any Lord just yet.

If the Mages Association were to find out about this fact, then the Lord who dared to order this attack would be stripped of his title. The perpetrator would not lose their Crest, but they would most definitely lose all of the benefits and privileges guaranteed to them by the Mages Association. And in the off chance that the Lord would still chose to not comply with the Association’s orders, it would dispatch its powerful army to deal with them directly.

「They think that there will be no consequences for them as long as they kill us? 」

Irvin shrugged his shoulders slightly.

「Mages belonging to the Mages Association can always keep in touch with the Association, right? 」
The magic wand that is given to every student when they enroll in the Magic University has such magical powers, and the Association is rumored to know the location of all magic wands that they distribute to the students.

If these guys don’t know about that, then it means that a Mage was not involved in this attack.

And in consequence, this has to mean that in all likelihood this attack was orchestrated by some foolish Lord who was acting on his own.

(I heard that there are many Lords who think of Mages as nothing more but convenient servants, but it seems that this rumor is actually true.)

Siluca sighed.

「Shall we tell them about it and graciously let them go? 」

「If they have came at us with such numbers, then do you not think that a peaceful resolution of this conflict is already out of the question? 」

「
Siluca became dissatisfied when she heard that.

「Well, if you say so. 」

Irvin soothed Siluca and turned away from her to face the soldiers in front of them. And as soon as he did that, the normally quiet atmosphere around him changed in an instant.

Irvin’s whole body began to emanate strong surges of chaotic energy.

「You there! Stop that carriage at once! 」

One of the soldiers cried out, pointing the point of his spear at the carriage.

「May I know what is this about? 」

Irvin stopped the carriage and asked the soldier back in a polite tone.
「There should be a Mage in the carriage. A Mage that plans to make a contract with the Earl of Artuk. 」

「That would indeed be me. 」

Siluca answered, and she opened the door of her carriage herself and stepped onto the ground outside.

「What do you want from me? 」
「Our Lord will soon start a war with Artuk. No, the war has already started, so we can’t let the Mage under contract with the Earl of Artuk pass through here. 」

「Even though before the contract itself is sealed, the Mage in question is first and foremost a member of the Mages Association? 」

Irvin says with a mysterious expression.

「As long as it has been decided that she is going to be forging a contract with the Earl of Artuk, for us it is the same as if she already became our enemy! 」

The man took a step forward and responded strongly to Irvin’s words.

「Is that so? 」

Irvin sighed with a face filled with resignation, while Siluca smiled triumphantly at him before she turned towards the men.

「I understand. 」

When Siluca said so, she unfastened the clasp of her cloak, took it off with a flashy motion, and placed her left hand on her hip.

Since she was wearing exposed that was exposing a lot of her skin that she got from Villar, some of the men started purring and snickering unpleasantly when they saw her attire.

「Do as you please with me. 」

Siluca looked at the men around her in a very provocative way.

「Glad to see that you are so cooperative. If this is what you want, then we will be sure to do just that. We will make sure to thoroughly entertain you. 」

I’m very prepared. If that’s what you intend to do, I’ll let you pass away in peace.

「Oh, is that so? 」

Siluca slowly put her right hand that was hidden from the soldier’s view behind her back, where she had hid her magic wand beforehand.

「If you think you can… 」

When she whispered that, she leaned forward and tried to shake her chest…

But then….

「Wait! 」
A loud voice came from behind her, followed by the sound of hooves hitting the ground hard.

Siluca instinctively stopped her hand and turned back towards the source of the voice, and then she saw a young man on a hairy horse riding towards them at full speed.

「A Lord? 」

Siluca mutters dumbfoundedly.

「It seems so. I can feel the power of the Crest radiating off of him, even if only slightly. 」

「I don’t feel it at all. 」

Although she is good at sensing and controlling Chaos, Siluca is not very good at sensing the power of the Crest, perhaps because of her dislike of Lords and nobility in general.

「If it is only just a little… 」
Irvin said soothingly.

「Then, in other words, he must not have much of a Crest on him. 」

「That should be the case. 」

「A wandering Lord or a small one from the neighboring lands then? Either way, things are definitely going to get complicated now.」

Siluca thought that she would finally have a chance to allow herself to cut loose for a bit to improve her mood, but she might have just missed her mark.

「It’s not like we can help it, so let’s just see how it goes. 」

The soldiers who ambushed Siluca also seemed perplexed by the sudden appearance of the young man.
After a while, the young man advanced to the front of the carriage and got off his horse.

「Are you okay? 」

The young man called out to Siluca.

「Yes, as you can clearly see. 」

Siluca said while spreading her hands widely.

「A magic wand? Are you a Mage? 」

「That’s right, I am. 」
Siluca nodded her head.

When the young man glanced at Siluca’s whole body, he immediately averted his gaze.

「Y-You have quite a peculiar taste in clothing. 」
And then he commented on her attire while choosing his words very carefully.

「T-This is…! 」

Siluca’s face immediately heat up and went bright red. At that moment, she regretted not changing from Villar’s robe and taking off her cloak.

「I do admit that these clothes are in bad taste, but wearing them is not my hobby or anything! 」

「No, it is okay. I think it’s good to have a strong sense individuality, ane express it so openly, yeah… 」

The young man completely ignored everything that Siluca said just now.

「I was travelling along the highway, when suddenly one of the locals came to me and told me not to go any further. When I asked them what happened, they told me that a Mage affiliated with the Fantasia Union was being ambushed by the Lord of these lands… 」

「Huh? But I haven’t made a contract with the Lord of the Union yet. 」

Siluca frowned.

「I thought so. I heard that the carriage also had the flag of the Mages Association on it… 」

Having said that much, the young man looked back at the soldiers who were standing in front of the carriage with the ambush.

「You guys, whose subordinates are you, really? 」

「That is none of your concerns It has nothing to do with you! 」

The man holding the spear yelled back at him.

「Sure, it doesn’t matter to me. But I can’t let you go attacking an innocent person on the highway, by this Crest of mine! 」

The young man spoke in a theatrical tone and turned the back of his right hand towards the men.
