Volume 1 Chapter 2 Part 13

「Well of course. I need to know at least that much, since I wanted to have at least two Chamberlains in my service myself in the future. 」

Lassik grinned.

「This will be a good opportunity to see what your ilk is truly capable of! 」

「Lady Siluca was always complimenting my services. She said that whether it was cooking, cleaning or doing the laundry, I always managed to do these things no less than perfectly. 」

Saying so, the man in the black suit moved at incredible speed and managed to stab one of his daggers into Lassic’s right hand with him only noticing what was happening when it was too late to do anything about it.

Lassic brushed it off with his sword and dealt with the successive attacks accurately.

「Amazing. 」

The man in the black suit opened his eyes this time.

「Because he learned how to handle all sorts of weapons from my father! 」

Lasik’s father was a mercenary leader, but he did not do so his entire life. It was probably because he had ambitions that one day he would become a Lord.

He wasn’t even the strongest in his mercenary group. However, he was well versed in handling all kinds of weapons, and trained young mercenaries with his skills, one after another, until they were able to become full-fledged soldiers. He formed groups of five to ten men and dispatched them wherever necessary. Thus he amassed a fortune, served the local Lord in his old age, and was then deemed worthy of inheriting his Crest. Lassic is a Knight who only governs two villages, but he does not need more, because his skills with the blade helped him amass his own wealth that was unrivaled in his neighborhood.

「Well then, it looks like  I have to put my heart into it as well. 」

The man in the black suit said and threw his left hand dagger without even looking at it. One of the unguarded mercenaries took the dagger to his throat and died instantly.

「I warned you! 」

Lassic exclaimed in frustration.

「How dare you…?!!!! 」

While yelling, a mercenary with an axe attacked Irvin.

「You idiot! 」

Lasik clicked his tongue. The man in the black suit dodged the blow of the axe with only a slight movement of his own and took the step back, getting behind the attacker in an instant. Then, with a silent bow, he sunk his other dagger the mercenary’s neck. Blood splattered everywhere, and the mercenary died with his eyes wide open.

「Captain Grak! We will take this guy on together! 」

「Hurumph! 」

The captain nodded. It was hard  for him to move his mouth because his skin is as hard as copper right now, therefore most of his responses were in the form of various snorts. Familiarity is a frightening thing, and now that alone was enough for LAssic to understand his intentions.

Grak spread his hands wide and went forward, completely defenseless, towards the man in the black suit.

He threw a dagger at his throat. He did it with precision, but there was just a high-pitched metallic sound, and the dagger has fallen at Grak’s feet.

「It didn’t work, huh? 」

Grak spun his body around, keeping his arms outstretched. A fist as hard as iron hit the man in the black suit right in the head.

However, the man turned his body back, and when he got past that blow, he regained his posture and threw daggers with both of his hands crossed. They rushes towards the captain’s eyes. Grak hastily tried to cover his face with his arm. However, he didn’t make it in time and one of the daggers did pierce his right eye.

「Ughaaaa!!!! 」

With a squealing voice coming from his throat, Grak pulled out the dagger himself. His eyeball got stuck to it, and then it fell to the ground, just like the dagger that Grak tossed aside.

「Why you…! 」

Lassic was angry and attacked him with his sword. Using Arts always puts an extreme strain on the user’s body, so there’s no way he can keep doing such superhuman movements forever.

Lassic himself activates the power of his Crest. His blade shined, and his whole body moved much faster.

(This is going to be a long battle.)

With Lassic fully prepared, he and Grak continued to fight against the man in the black suit.

*          *          *

Siluca was blocking Moreno’s attacks with her magic for quite a while now. However, no matter how much time passed, neither Irvin nor Aishela came to her aid. As it should have been expected, she was beginning to feel tired and started losing her concentration.

Moreno was also getting more impatient. He thought that Siluca would soon fall from exhaustion, but she continued to deflect his sword with her magic, and he feared that Lassic would be defeated by that superhuman Artist at this rate.

「Aren’t you  getting out of breath? 」

Moreno deliberately smiled and called out to her.

「Moreno-senpai, your sword swings are getting dull as well. 」

Siluca replied expressionlessly.

She was approaching her  limit, however, if she were to surrender here, they would lose this  entire battle. And leaving Theo aside, Irvin and Aishela would probably stop fighting at that moment.

(Then, what would have happened if I died?)

Irvin would leave in search of his next master, and Aishela would have exterminate the foes responsible for killing her. She doesn’t know what Theo would do, but Ihe would definitely get himself in trouble.

(So I can’t die just yet…)

She had no choice but to continue this fight until she collapsed from exhaustion.

It was at that moment that…

「What are you doing?! 」

Theo’s voice echoed in the distance. When she turned her gaze to the source of the voice for a moment, she saw Theo rushing to her side with his soldiers.

「Theo? 」

Siluca was surprised. She never expected him to come.

「I’m struggling for a bit. 」

Siluca answered honestly.

「I could see it from afar. Can I help you with anything? 」

「Eh? Won’t you help me from the get-go? 」

Siluca looked dumbfounded.

「Yeah, because you said you didn’t need help last time. 」

「This time the situation is clearly different from last time. 」

Siluca said openly. She was angry at herself, not at Theo.

Then Theo came and went in to protect Siluca. He took a stance, drew his sword, and pointed it to the side. The Crest shone from Theo’s right hand, and its light was sucked into his sword, shield, and his chest.

「I apologize for the trouble… 」

Siluca hung her head low.

「No, you don’t have to. I’m the Lord, and this is my fight. I should have moved faster. 」

「Is this your first time on a battlefield? 」

「It is. But it is important to overcome your weaknesses and disadvantages, right? 」

「Yes, indeed… 」

Siluca nodded, but inside she was greatly surprised.

On the battlefield, it is often surprisingly difficult to the situation correctly. Therefore, at the Magic University, table battles and mock battles are held repeatedly to make students accustomed to fighting and how chaotic battlefields can be. There is even a special training program meant to get the students to withstand the horrors of the battlefield.

She thought that they would be at a disadvantage if Theo moved at all during this battle, so she asked him to stay still, but now she could only say that she underestimated him.

「You don’t seem to have the energy to take prisoners of the fallen enemy soldiers or fight, but don’t let your guard down just yet. 」

After Siluca took a deep breath, she commanded the confused soldiers.

Even if they didn’t mean to let theirs guards down, they were still on the battlefield, and she knew very well that on the battlefield you must not let your guard down for even a moment, but now she also understood that there are many things that you can’t understand just by studying them at university. They almost lost the battle because of her lack of understanding of something so basic.

Siluca turned to Theo after seeing the soldiers carry out the order.

Theo was still one-sidedly chasing a tired Moreno.

「Well, are you not going to surrender or not?! 」

While swinging his sword, Theo called out to Moreno.

「You think you can beat me with that level of skill? 」

While parrying Theo’s slashing attack, Moreno attacked back.

「You cannot win. You’re out of breath and your legs are wobbly. 」

「And your sword is like a baby’s compared to Lord Lassic! 」

「I’m the one fighting you right now! 」
